Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu is hoping that one familiar face from the first movie comes back for the upcoming sequel. At Fan Expo Canada, Collider attended a panel discussion with the Marvel star. During that talk, Liu talked about his hope that Michelle Yeoh could return for Shang-Chi 2. Now, we're probably years away from the MCU's return to Ta-Lo, but that's not going to stop one prospective Avenger from putting down that request early. Since Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Yeoh has claimed an Oscar, so that price tag could be steep. At any rate, it will be interesting to see what he's up against the next time he turns up in the MCU.

"When we shared our scenes together, and I had the opportunity to fight her, it was more of a dance fight. First of all, I was really nervous and, second of all, she's so petite and graceful, and I just felt like a big clumsy chunk of meat just flopping around," Liu joked. "It worked for the scene, right? She's trying to kind of teach me to find harmony with my body, and it's very Tai Chi oriented. So it's very flowy, she's kind of guiding you through, and I'm like stumbling. I didn't have to do a lot to get into character, and she's great. Just the absolute best kind of person to hang out with."

What's Up With Shang-Chi 2?

Shang-Chi 2 is a topic that Simu Liu is going to be asked about all the time until the project is formally announced. A previous stop on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon saw the Marvel actor having to address the sequel again. While he's not at liberty to divulge details, Liu would explain that Marvel is hard at work on what they're planning for the master of kung-fu. Clearly, there's something bubbling behind the scenes, but Marvel Studios is not ready to address it just yet.Fans have been theorizing that Shang-Chi 2 could probably fit between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars in the timeline.

"This is where I use all the mental gymnastics that I possibly can to answer this question," Liu told the host. "Well look, I will say this -- it's definitely happening. I should probably lead with that. People, whether it's online or in person, ask me every single day, and tell me every single day how much they enjoyed the first movie, and how much of a moment it was. And I think there's just so much goodwill, and I'm so deeply appreciative of that. So please know, if you've ever sent me a message, if you've ever asked about a sequel, or just approached, or any which way, I take it to heart and I really appreciate it. I really do. And I think I speak for myself and Destin, our returning director, when I say that we're so beyond excited to jump back in. We really are."

Fantastic Four's Jessica Alba Offers Advice for Vanessa Kirby Taking on Sue Storm Role https://comicbook.com/movies/news/fantastic-four-reboot-mcu-jessica-alba-vanessa-kirby-sue-storm-invisible-woman-advice/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 21:19:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw c6ab78dd-b19d-481b-9408-db1876e722c9

Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently filming in the UK, and now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of The Fantastic Four is officially a real thing, it's interesting to hear from some of the veterans of the franchise. Actress Jessica Alba starred in The Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) as Sue Storm, aka The Invisible Woman. In a new interview for her new Roku series Honest Renovations, Alba was kind enough to pass on some advice to actress Vanessa Kirby, who is the new MCU version of Sue Storm.

When asked what Kirby needs to know about stepping into the world of The Fantastic Four (and Marvel fandom), Alba had this to say:

"I think just have fun. The fans are so amazing. It was probably one of the best times of my life, going around the world and meeting all of the people that just love The Fantastic Four and love these comic books and can relate to these stories, Alba shared with Collider. "That, to me, and to be able to meet so many different people that you can touch and bring joy to them, I would say that's first and foremost for anyone who gets the honor of playing one of these awesome characters. So I'd tell her to just have fun and soak in the moments."

Tim Story's Fantastic Four movies of the 2000s are now looked at as early pioneers of the blockbuster era of superhero movies, following the release of Wesley Snipes' Blade, X-Men (2000), and the game-changing first Spider-Man (2002) movie. 20th Century Fox was hoping the Fantastic Four would be a strong enough IP to support its own franchise universe, alongside the X-Men films (the only two Marvel movie properties Fox owned). Instead, director Tim Story (Barbershop) never quite achieved the massive breakthrough success of Spider-Man or X-Men with both of his F4 films; the property sat dormant for years as Fox continued building out the X-Men movie universe, and eventually gave it a soft-reboot with X-Men: First Class in 2011. The studio tried to do the same with Fantastic Four, tapping filmmaker Josh Trank (Chronicle) to do a full-fledged reboot (Fant4stic) which crashed and burned, earning just $167 million at the box office on a budget of $120.

Even worse than the loss of profits were the embarrassing stories of the film's production. It has been rumored that Trank and Fox had major conflicts during the making of the film, with conflicting reports indicating that Trank was "erratic" on set, while others claim his original cut of the film was too dark for the Fox executives, leading to an infamous series of reshoots that changed the movie's latter half completely and resulted in a final cut that was a Frankenstein mess of mismatched ideas, tones, and style. The reboot was received so poorly that Fantastic Four has remained dormant in the decade since - despite the global domination of the Marvel Studios brand.

So, while Alba's words to Kirby are nice, her experience doing the film (which wasn't without its own casting controversy) and meeting the fans was probably a lot different than the ugly legacy Vanessa Kirby and co. have to now overcome.

Fantastic Four: First Steps has a release date of July 25, 2025.

Former The Punisher Actor Addresses Whether a Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo Was Considered https://comicbook.com/movies/news/former-the-punisher-actor-deadpool-wolverine-cameo-considered-thomas-jane/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 20:45:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson dd091153-baed-4d75-8937-12bc843c013e

Deadpool & Wolverine has easily been one of the biggest movies of this year, grossing over $1 billion at the worldwide box office and renewing a lot of hype in the Marvel Cinematic Universe along the way. In addition to continuing the madcap journey of Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson / Deadpool, the film folded in characters from a number of previous Marvel movies and television shows -- but now we know one that was not in the running. Thomas Jane, who previously portrayed Frank Castle / The Punisher in 2004's The Punisher, recently confirmed he was not approached for a Deadpool & Wolverine cameo in a new interview with The Direct.

"Nope," Jane revealed, before adding, "I like [Jon] Bernthal's Punisher. I think, you know, for me, it was always a little bit of a stretch. Frank Castle is supposed to be an Italian American. I'm not. I'm an Irish American. So for me, I had to dye the hair and sort of take on a persona, but Bernthal wears it so well, so I think they should stick with him."

Who Cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine?

Among the many Marvel cameos of Deadpool & Wolverine, the biggest standouts were Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and Dafne Keen as X-23, as well as Channing Tatum as Gambit from his never-produced Gambit solo movie. As director Shawn Levy revealed shortly after the film debuted in theaters, the biggest priority when choosing these cameos was playing off of the legacy of the larger Marvel universe.

"The vibe on set was a party. We wanted to play with this theme of 'legacy.' So, we started thinking of characters we knew who never quite got their ending," Levy revealed. "When we had all these characters together and you have X-23, and you have Blade, and you have Gambit and Electra. Everyone was so happy and grateful."

What Is Deadpool & Wolverine About?

In Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The film also stars Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, and Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, with the return of Deadpool alums Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar, and Aaron Stanford returning as Pyro from the X-Men film series.

Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D'Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey and Simon Kinberg serving as executive producers. Deadpool & Wolverine is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy. Deadpool & Wolverine was released exclusively in theaters on July 26th.

The Crow Reboot Review &Fall Preview Hype Meter | ComicBook Nation https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-crow-reboot-reviews-box-office-fall-movies-tv-shows-preview-release-dates/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 22:22:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw fcb7ac1a-94d6-4652-b524-daff1028e78a

The ComicBook Nation crew previews the Fall TV and Movie schedules and share their hype levels for some of the most highly anticipated releases! There's also a review and discussion of The Crow reboot starring Bill Skarsg?rd!

PLUS: Deep-dive discussion about the status of Star Wars after The Acolyte's cancelation, and a debate about Marvel's Blade reboot and what kind of film it should be.

The Crow Reboot Review

This is what ComicBook Nation host Kofi Outlaw had to say in his 2-star review of The Crow:

Under the direction of Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and the genuine effort made by stars Bill Skarsg?rd and FKA Twigs, The Crow isn't a total failure - but it is a messy mismatch of high-art aspirations and bloody, brutal, B-movie action-horror. It's both vibrantly alive with creative spark and passion - and a listless, muddled attempt at telling a cinematic story.

...It's not impossible that, despite its flaws, The Crow will follow the path of the original and grow into a cult hit in years to come. If nothing else, it's one of the biggest showcases yet of Bill Skarsg?rd's potential as a leading man (and not just the lineup of odd creatures and/or creeps he's played). But, after more than a decade of trying to get this reboot off the ground - and all the creative talent that's been attached to it along the way - it's almost amusing that middling effort is the end result.

Marvel and Transformers One Star Chris Hemsworth Surprises Fans at Ed Sheeran Concert, Plays Drums https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/marvel-and-transformers-one-star-chris-hemsworth-surprises-fans-at-ed-sheeran-concert-plays-drums/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 20:55:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak a93bf001-e8fc-4a6f-a5d0-aaee23d1f0ee

Chris Hemsworth is best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and soon the actor will be heard voicing the iconic Optimus Prime in the new animated film, Transformers One. Hemsworth's credits also include Furisoa: A Mad Max Saga, Extraction and Extraction 2, Ghostbusters (2016), Men in Black: International, and much more. He also has a reality docuseries from National Geographic called Limitless with Chris Hemsworth. It was announced earlier this year that the show would be getting a second season on Disney+, and a taping just took him somewhere extra special. This week, a crowd of 70,000 people were attending an Ed Sheeran concert in Romania's National Arena when Hemsworth showed up with a surprise.

Hemsworth made a surprise appearance at Sheeran's show to play drums on the track "Thinking Out Loud." Sheeran took to Instagram yesterday to celebrate the moment. "Got @chrishemsworth to learn drums for my stadium show, find out why on his show #LimitlessWithChrisHemsworth Season 2 coming 2025 to @disneyplus #thorfortheencore #iwasworthy," he captioned the post. Transformers One

Set on Cybertron, Transformers One is the untold origin story of a young Optimus Prime and Megatron. Before they transformed into sworn enemies as the leaders of warring robot factions -- the Autobots and Decepticons -- they were brothers-in-arms Orion Pax (Hemsworth) and D-16 (Henry), who changed the fate of their planet forever. While working waste management in the bowels of Cybertron, Orion and D-16 meet workers B-127 (Key), a.k.a. Bumblebee, and Ariel (Scarlett Johansson), a.k.a. Elita-1, before embarking on a dangerous journey to the planet's surface world.

The star-studded voice cast includes Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as Sentinel Prime, Steve Buscemi (Transformers: The Last Knight) in an undisclosed villain role, and Laurence Fisburne (The Matrix) as Alpha Trion -- sworn protector of Vector Sigma, the mega-computer at the heart of Cybertron -- who unlocks the Transformers' full potential, giving the 'bots the ability to transform. The new movie comes from Paramount Animation (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run), Hasbro Entertainment (Transformers: EarthSpark), and New Republic Pictures (The Tiger's Apprentice).

"We did our take on the origin, which is still staying true to the lore of Transformers," director Josh Cooley told ComicBook of the first-ever CG-animated Transformers movie, adding that Optimus Prime's origin story is "something we've never seen before on screen." "I wouldn't say that this is a direct prequel to anything that's been done with live-action ones," the director added. "But it's definitely its own story as well."

Transformers One opens only in theaters on September 20th.

Deadpool & Wolverine Concept Art Details Samurai Variant https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-concept-art-samurai-variant/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 20:37:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt 12c1818d-625c-4002-a152-673d55d402f6 Deadpool & Wolverine still has some serious legs at the box office, and those behind the film are giving fans an inside look at the production of the film. Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has been sharing more behind-the-scenes snapshots with each passing day, and visual development artists have been able to post their unused work on the film. The latest such piece is courtesy of artist David Masson San Gabriel, who was charged with coming up with a look for the Deadpool variant called Roninpool.

"Ended up with a black hat in the movie, you can see this guy slashing away as one of the Deadpool Corps," San Gabriel shared. "I also added the initial sketch at the end for those who are curious about the process:) Costume designer @mayesrubeo ?? Also does anyone know who played him?"

San Gabriel was also the artist behind Punkpool, a punk rock-inspired variant that didn't make it into the final cut.

"Another variant that didn't make it, Punkpool! Next i will be posting the ones that made it into the movie," San Gabriel shared on Instagram alongside the concept art. In it, Deadpool can be seen with a mohawk, plaid pants, and enough studded clothing to make The Misfits blush. See the concept art for yourself below.

Deadpool & Wolverine continues to have an epic run at the box office by retaking the number one spot over this weekend's newest releases. In addition to becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, the movie is also up on Rotten Tomatoes with a 78% critics score and 95% audience score. In honor of the film's success, Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) has been taking to social media to share his thanks and praise to the various people who made the film possible. In the actor's latest post, he gave a much-deserved shoutout to the movie's costume department.

"The costume department on #DeadpoolAndWolverine was second to none," Reynolds began. "I can't think of a more stressful line of work on a film like this. SO. MANY. COSTUMES. And prototypes. And no room for error. The work they do isn't just design and fabrication, it's engineering. These suits function as beautifully as they look. Sure it takes over an hour to pee, but the suit has saved me from more injuries than I can count. This whole supersuit journey started and continues with Russ Shinkle and his team at @film_illusions."

"Huge thanks to tireless geniuses: Graham Churchyard, Mayes Rubio and Billy Lawless. Massive appreciation and awe to Ivo Coveny for making a NicePool suit (and many others, including 2099!!!!) beyond anyone's wildest dreams and expectations," he continued. "And all my love, appreciation and thanks to the giant team behind the scenes at Pinewood and beyond working so hard to create, fix, pivot, change, patch and adjust what must feel like a thousand different supersuits every single day... what a team of heroes. You kept the wheels on the bus." You can view the post, which features behind-the-scenes photos, below:

Bruce Campbell Has a Hilarious Response to the Deadpool & Wolverine Popcorn Bucket: "Let's Send That One Back" https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/bruce-campbell-has-a-hilarious-response-to-the-deadpool-wolverine-popcorn-bucket-lets-send-that-one-back/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 02:06:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak cbd209eb-1602-4d9a-a5b5-c0807f55979d

This year, novelty popcorn buckets have really started to take off thanks to AMC Theatres' souvenir sandworm bucket for Dune: Part Two. The bucket caused a ton of online reactions and inspired a Saturday Night Live sketch. Now, other movies are trying to top that design. Earlier this year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased that the popcorn bucket for Deadpool & Wolverine would be "intentionally crude," and he wasn't wrong. In order to get popcorn from your bucket, you have to reach into a very large hole that's positioned as Wolverine's mouth. At San Diego Comic-Con last month, ComicBook chatted with Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell in promotion of his upcoming series, Hysteria!, and got his reaction to the bucket.

"Why did they do that? ... This is an actual piece of merchandise?" Campbell wondered when shown the Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn bucket. "I don't like it," he added after studying it for a bit. "No. No, because Ryan Reynolds would think it's funny that you're shoving your fist into Hugh Jackman's face. So that's the joke."

"I'm not going to comment on that," Campbell added when ComicBook's Chris Killian said, "Hopefully it's your fist."

"This is wrong, AMC," Campbell hilariously added, matter-of-factly. "Nice try. Nice, try. Let's send that one back."

During the chat, we also asked the star why his Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness character, Pizza Poppa, didn't appear in Deadpool & Wolverine. Unsurprisingly, his answer was pretty hilarious.

"He's not in that timeline. He's in a different timeline," Campbell explained. "Well, here's what I say to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Get a room. What's with the bromance? We get it. Thank you. Next. Go back to your soccer team, Ryan."

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Showrunner Addresses Expectations https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/your-friendly-neighborhood-spider-man-disney-plus-animated-mcu-jeff-trammell-addresses-expectations/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 20:32:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 5112ef3c-eac0-4491-a54b-215f4442e211

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell hinted at some surprises for fans when the Disney+ show gets rolling. This week's Official Marvel Podcast saw the scribe making an introduction for the series. Trammell says that Spider-Man is one of the most relatable characters out there. Although his story is basically burned into pop culture lore at this point, there are still moments when Peter Parker's life can surprise you. The showrunner says that the crew is looking forward to creating moments for kids just starting their Spider-Man journeys. At the same time, the scribe is also gently preparing some older viewers to not rest on their laurels when it comes to the Web-Slinger.

"I want to give a cliche 'expect the unexpected' answer. But, honestly I think you can expect Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It's him, he's hanging around New York. It's not like a huge intergalactic adventure, it's him just like at his roots. And there's a lot of things, that I think, we as a fan base kind of take at a first glance. Like, 'Oh yeah I know this works I know that's part of the story.'

"That's been really fun to dig into," Trammell added. "Well, maybe you don't know everything. Or maybe, there are certain things that you're kind of like 'Oh yeah, I know that part. No surprise there.' And, I'm really excited to dig into those, because it's really fun to be able to subvert those expectations when they've been built up for so long."

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man presents a new, but familiar take on the Wall-Crawler. However, Marvel's head of TV and Animation is also teasing some surprises lurking around there somewhere. The Official Marvel Podcast previously spoke to the producer about everything coming up on Disney+. During that conversation, he hinted at some fun stuff for fan when the new Spider-Man show swings onto the streaming platform.

"There are twists and turns in that show that are amazing, but the real power is the ensemble, is the neighborhood," Winderbaum teased. "He's amped that up in such a major way playing with characters like -- not just Peter Parker -- Nico Minoru, Lonnie Lincoln, my personal favorite, Harry Osborn, and others that flesh out this teenage ensemble."

Deadpool & Wolverine: New Promo Features Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/deadpool-wolverine-new-promo-features-jon-favreaus-happy-hogan/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 19:58:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 0a8873ae-e911-49ae-a6a1-1c6e979e7b0a

Deadpool & Wolverine is in its fifth weekend in theaters, and it just retook the number one weekend spot. The film has exceeded expectations in every way and recently surpassed Joker to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. The movie was filled with surprising cameos, and Marvel Studios has started posting about the movie's biggest surprises. We've seen many posts dedicated to the heroes in The Void, but the latest promo lets another big name shine: Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan. Favreau has been with the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the beginning, having directed Iron Man (2008) while playing Happy Hogan along the way.

"Get your team together. Get tickets now to see #DeadpoolAndWolverine at the link in bio," Marvel Studios captioned the video. You can check it out below:

"Jon Favreau didn't just jump into #DeadpoolAndWolverine for a quick one night stand as Happy Hogan. He gave us the 360 degree vision of an innovator, foundational Marvel forefather and ace storyteller," Ryan Reynolds previously wrote on Twitter. "And if I have his number right, he is WILDLY uncomfortable with everything I'm writing in this post. But fuck it, I got what I needed out of him so he's gonna drink the medicine."

Deadpool & Wolverine Box Office Passes MCU Favorite https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-box-office-captain-america-civil-war-mcu-rankings/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 18:14:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 19cc7e56-5b9f-4024-b7db-6e199b4004b6

Deadpool & Wolverine managed to pass off an MCU favorite in the Marvel box office rankings. This week, Shawn Levy's big blockbuster leaped over Captain America: Civil War for the number 8 biggest Marvel movie of all time. Deadpool & Wolverine crossed $1.154 billion which eclipsed the Russo Bros. favorite, which stands at $1.151 billion. In the case of the split between domestic markets and abroad, North American theaters account for $556 million of that massive number and overseas box office handled the rest. As the summer movie season got started, a lot of folks were worried about the state of the industry. With Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and a host of options, things are considerably rosier than when the hottest part of the year kicked off.

Just this week, Marvel's integration of the mutants reclaimed the top spot at the box office. Deadpool & Wolverine is a full-blown feel-good hit. Alien: Romulus is probably going to come-in second. (A development that shows a lot of that bluster about sequels not being an audience priority is a bit misplaced.) Now, the question remains of how far Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's long-awaited team-up movie can go. It's going to be tough to get past Black Panther or Avengers: Age of Ultron, but the possibility definitely exists. And, that wasn't something people could be sure of 12 months ago.

These wild box office numbers just prove the point that Deadpool & Wolverine was something this audience truly wanted. Jenna Anderon reviewed this movie for ComicBook. In her review, our critic complimented the thrill ride feel of Deadpool & Wolverine. But, what really makes this movie special is the bond at the center of it. Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are really best friends and it shines through at every turn.

"Deadpool & Wolverine keeps a thematic core that tackles insecurity, failure, and loneliness at virtually every turn," Anderson argues. "While it takes a few beats for the surprisingly small-scale story to kick into high gear, those emotions certainly fuel our two protagonists, who are charting their own courses toward a future that will hopefully be a little bit kinder to them."

"But those emotions also seem to fuel the entire existence of Deadpool & Wolverine, as the movie argues that the ambition of breaking impossible box-office records and expanding a cinematic universe shouldn't get in the way of telling a story that viewers actually care about," she continues. "Even in a movie that will surely break box-office records, and in a cinematic universe that still continues to grow, it's a sense of honesty that is refreshing."

Deadpool & Wolverine Retakes #1 Box Office https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-box-office-number-one-alien-blink-twice-crow-blake-lively/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 15:53:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 8fc032f9-9bb3-48fb-b79e-63cee19215f1

Deadpool & Wolverine is retaking the top spot at the box office this weekend. After Alien: Romulus slithered in a pole position, Marvel's summer smash claimed the throne again. Deadpool & Wolverine is looking at a $17.8 million weekend at the movie theater. The latest installment in the Alien franchise is in hot pursuit with $16 million. All of this is bad news for Blink Twice and The Crow. The two newest additions to the box office seen this week look to come in at $7 million and $5 million respectively. (Channing Tatum is still an absolute winner for giving us Gambit this summer, everything else is icing on the cake at this point.) But, yes Deadpool & Wolverine's tour rolls on!

Tatum's turn as Gambit has everyone rooting for him to play the mutant again. That includes co-star Ryan Reynolds. On Instagram, the Deadpool star has been stumping for a revival of that X-Men project. "Gambit is a guy Chan was born to play. His story is similar to mine in that he spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen," Reynolds began. "Remy LeBeau is grafted to his soul and needs to come out and deal. And Gambit found his author in Chan. He's one of the coolest, smartest characters in comics and still largely unexplored."

"I want more -- and from what I saw in theaters, you do too," Reynolds argued. "Having the chance to say goodbye to some of these heroes is as important as having new characters to root for... and rooting for Gambit is easy. Rooting for Chan is even easier. He's one of the greatest, hardest working, kindest people in this entire industry. I couldn't be more thrilled to see @channingtatum pull Gambit from the dead and bring him to life at the perfect time and perfect way."

Deadpool & Wolverine: Bruce Campbell Reveals Why Pizza Poppa Didn't Appear https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-bruce-campbell-why-pizza-poppa-didnt-appear/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 02:38:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson d532845e-786b-4f78-975f-443895e99142

Deadpool & Wolverine made its way into theaters almost a month ago, putting Marvel fans through a wild journey across the Marvel multiverse. Among the list of irreverent characters who did not factor into Deadpool & Wolverine's universe-hopping frenzy was Pizza Poppa, portrayed by Bruce Campbell in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While speaking to ComicBook at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 to promote his upcoming series Hysteria!, Campbell offered a frank explanation for why Pizza Poppa doesn't make any sort of appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.

"He's not in that timeline. He's in a different timeline," Campbell revealed, before adding, "Well, here's what I say to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Get a room. What's with the bromance? We get it. Thank you. Next. Go back to your soccer team, Ryan."

Will Deadpool and Wolverine Return in the MCU?

Given Deadpool & Wolverine's multiversal bent and massive box office sucess, and the looming threat of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars in the coming years, fans have naturally wondered if Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will reprise their roles in the future. In an interview with Variety prior to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, the duo were tight-lipped about what their onscreen futures might hold.

"I don't know," Reynolds answered. "Yeah, we'll see. Yeah."

"Clearly, this is our first major interview of this press tour," Jackman added. "I'm not sure how to answer."

Scarlet Witch Fan Theory Could Hint at Surprising MCU Debut https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/scarlet-witch-vision-quest-mcu-comics-return-elizabeth-olsen-fan-theory-virginia-tom-king-debut/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 01:54:00 +0000 Aaron Perine a3815fc3-47eb-43c7-a3e4-3bf908af42a2

Marvel's latest rumor has Elizabeth Olsen returning to the MCU. But, is she playing Wanda Maximoff in her next appearance? Deadline recently reported that the Scarlet Witch actress is a possibility to return in Vision Quest. (A wild day of Marvel news to be sure with James Spader coming back as Ultron in the series too!) But, a suspicious tweet and some Internet sleuthing argues that she could be playing another role entirely. Alex Perez from My Cosmic Circus tweeted out a picture of Virginia Vision in response to Deadline's report. That would be a curveball that a lot of MCU fans might not see coming. However, the move might make a lot of sense.

Vision Quest is said to be leaning into a few Marvel Comics storylines. Yes, "Children's Crusade" where Billy and Tommy, who were introduced in WandaVision, go looking for the Scarlet Witch. But, also Tom King's The Vision. Olsen's marvelous turn in the Disney+ series rocketed her up the fan rankings of favorite heroes in the MCU. Flipping the family sitcom on its head for the final chapter of this Scarlet Witch saga would be thematically significant. Nothing has been confirmed by Marvel yet. But, the entire premise seems intriguing.

In Tom King's Vision run, our resident Synthezoid fabricates a family of his own. His wife, Virginia Vision has some programming errors after a terrible accident and all the powers of her husband. We've seen Olsen play a redhead with a tenuous grip on reality before. So, this would be an interesting riff on that. (We could even flip the final confrontation from WandaVision on its head. Who's here for Scarlet Witch versus herself in the final battle?) In any case, more details are sure to come as we get closer to Vision Quest.

Tom King's Vision Run Looms Large Moving Forward

As WandaVision aired, a lot of fans discovered Tom King's delightful run on The Vision. During the Disney+ series' airing, the comics creator joined ComicBook's Phase Zero podcast to discuss his read of WandaVision. While he saw the gesturing to his previous work, King also pointed out numerous other comics writers that got nods during that show too.

"I see a lot of Brian Michael Bendis in this show. I think I get too much credit and he gets to little, to be frank," he says. "I see his, and I see a lot of Steve Englehart, a lot of John Byrne, his West Coast Avengers stuff. So yeah, clearly, sort of the idea of Vision as, again, this sort of elevated thing that I tried to do, where it's ripping off Alan Moore with Vision, that's sort of the baseline. But then they're really cooking with the other ingredients of Bendis, and Englehart, and Byrne, yeah."

"I always go back to comic book and comic book history, but Marvel has made incredible comics, but DC has made these sort of dark, tent-pole comics, these Watchmen, these Dark Knight Returns, New Frontier. These sort of comics that are, like, for lack of a better term, literary superhero comics, and Marvel has shied away from them. I mean, that's a big over assumption, but that's generally true," King explains. "So, I mean, that's what I was trying to do, was sort of to bring that DC sort of vibe to Marvel. And yeah, I mean, the most popular comic in DC's history was Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns. Those are still the popular comics and they still inspire the movies. And I think when people see that kind of energy in Marvel I'll just spark more energy."

Wonder Man: Disney Fined for Crew Member's Death on Marvel Series https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/wonder-man-disney-fined-crew-member-death-marvel-series/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 80b2ca6c-08ae-41dc-bf89-e6aec05ffb75

Disney has been fined $36,000 over the accidental death of a crew member who was working on Marvel's Wonder Man series. On Friday, reports indicated that the studio has received two penalties of $18,000 each in the investigation of the death of lighting technician J.C. "Spike" Osorio, after he passed away due to a fall on the series' Studio City set. The incident occurred on February 6th of this year at the Radford Studio Center, with the subsequent Cal/OSHA investigation finding that a catwalk had deteriorated and rotten wood, which had been improperly nailed in place. The Radford Studio Center was also issued two citations of $22,500, and both companies have fifteen business days to appeal to the Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board. Following Osorio's death in February, a number of studios have reportedly already upgraded their catwalks to ensure safer working conditions.

"The deteriorated ledger was weakened likely due to age, environmental conditions and repeated stress loads over many decades," the investigative summary reads. "As the crew walked along the catwalks, the employee stood on the weakened section of catwalk. Suddenly, and without warning, the ledger supporting the floorboard broke apart and collapsed as the employee was standing on this section of catwalk. The employee fell 41 feet and forcefully impacted the ground below."

This comes as Osorio's family had already issued a wrongful death lawsuit against the Radford Studio Center earlier this year, alleging that the facility should have been aware of the catwalk's condition. The specific damages of that lawsuit are currently unspecified.

"The citations issued by OSHA against Radford Studio Center confirm that Mr. Osorio's death was 100% preventable," the family's lawyer, Erika Contreras, told Variety. "It also confirms Radford Studio Center failed in its non-delegable duty to properly maintain, repair and inspect its premises. Unfortunately, Mr. Osorio paid the ultimate price for Radford's failure."

Wonder Man will star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams / Wonder Man, a character who is often known in the comics for his dual professions as a superhero and a Hollywood actor. The series also stars Demetrius Grosse as Grim Reaper, Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, and Lauren Glazier and Byron Bowers in a currently-unknown role. The ten-episode series will be directed by The Spectacular Now and Shrinking's James Ponsoldt, The Photograph's Stella Meghie, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' Destin Daniel Cretton, who is directing and executive producing the show through his first-look deal with Marvel.

Scarlet Witch Trends After Rumors Claim Wanda Could Return in Vision Series https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/scarlet-witch-trends-after-rumors-claim-wanda-could-return-in-vision-series/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 22:16:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 04389992-22bd-4190-abd8-75bd7001b210

It's been an exciting day for the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom. Not only was it confirmed that James Spader is returning as Ultron in Disney+'s new Vision series - marking his first appearance since he played the character in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015 - but there are also rumors circulating that the show could feature Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. Ever since Wanda supposedly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (we're not buying it), fans have been eager to find out when she would be popping up next. There have been many calls for a Scarlet Witch solo movie, but fans are just happy rumors of her return are circulating. In fact, "Scarlet Witch" started trending as soon as Deadline dropped the report that Olsen might be in the Vision series.

"Do not give me hope... I can't take it," @maximoffgifs reacted to the rumors. "Elizabeth Olsen's return as the scarlet witch is imminent," @giselleb1234 added. "There's NO WAY they're doing all this to NOT make a Scarlet Witch movie like walk with me," @wandasattorney tweeted.

It's also worth noting that all of this news dropped on August 23rd, the date Wanda and Vision chose for their anniversary in the first episode of WandaVision. Coincidence? Maybe! But it sure is fun to speculate.

Will Elizabeth Olsen Be in Agatha All Along?

While there's no official word on whether or not Elizabeth Olsen is returning to the MCU, many fans suspect she'll be popping up in Disney+'s upcoming WandaVision spin-off, Agatha All Along. It was previously announced that nine actors from WandaVision would be returning for the upcoming series. In addition to Kathryn Hahn in the titular role, the series will also feature WandaVision's Emma Caulfield, Debra Jo Rupp, David Payton, David Lengel, Asif Ali, Amos Glick, Brian Brightman, and Kate Forbes. MCU newcomers include Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Eric Andre, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasil, and Patti LuPone.

Olsen recently teased her MCU return despite previously saying she wasn't involved with the new Disney+ series.

"I don't know ever how to answer these questions except I don't... I think I'll be back," Olsen said with a laugh while speaking with Deadline at SXSW. While she could have just been referring to the greater MCU, the question did seem to be specifically about Agatha, so hopefully, this means we'll be seeing Wanda in Westview once again.

Michael Keaton Credits Tim Burton with Marvel and DC Universe Successes https://comicbook.com/movies/news/michael-keaton-tim-burton-marvel-dc-universe-success/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 21:39:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 6f1bc035-1591-4b9d-baf0-a21dd5cab3dd

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice arrives in theaters very soon, bringing the latest collaboration between actor Michael Keaton and director Tim Burton to the big screen. In addition to Beetlejuice, the pair have definitely become known for 1989's Batman and 1992's Batman Returns, which are still cited as being among the best comic book movies of all time. In a recent interview with GQ, Keaton took that notoriety even further, revealing that he credits Burton's work on Batman with having paved the way for the modern Marvel and DC cinematic universes that we know today.

"Tim deserves enormous credit. He changed everything," Keaton said. "I can't necessarily say this, but there's a strong possibility there is no Marvel Universe, there is no DC Universe, without Tim Burton. He was doubted and questioned."

Will Michael Keaton Play Batman Again?

When it comes to Batman, Keaton starred as the character in both Burton's two Batman films, as well as 2023's The Flash movie. While Keaton was set to reprise his role another time in the now-cancelled Batgirl movie, he is not entirely sure if he will appear onscreen as the character again.

"I don't think about it much," Keaton told Happy Sad Confused earlier this year. "Never say never, I don't think. Everything depends upon something else."

Will Tim Burton Make Another Superhero Movie?

Given the ever-evolving nature of the superhero movie space, some have naturally wondered if Burton might return to direct another adaptation of some kind for Marvel, DC, or otherwise. Burton most recently told Variety that while he won't completely rule out the possibility, he isn't currently planning on it.

"At the moment, I would say no," Burton explained. "Like I said, I come at things from different points of view, so I would never say never to anything. But, at the moment, it's not something I'd be interested in."

What Is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice About?

In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the Deetz family returns home to Winter River after Charles Deetz's unexpected death. Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened, releasing Betelgeuse.

Directed by Burton, the cast of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice includes Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released exclusively in theaters on Friday, September 6th.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Ryan Reynolds Explains Why Rob McElhenney's Cameo Was Cut https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/deadpool-wolverine-ryan-reynolds-explains-why-rob-mcelhenneys-cameo-was-cut/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 20:25:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 82c18e74-036a-4dca-b9b4-044f758c4acd

Deadpool & Wolverine hit theaters at the end of July, and it's become one of the biggest hits of the year and the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. Warning: Spoilers Ahead! The movie featured some huge surprise cameos ranging from Chris Evans as Johnny Storm and Henry Cavill as a Variant of Wolverine to a collection of beloved heroes in The Void. However, there is one famous face you didn't see in the new film, and that's Rob McElhenney. The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star is good pals with Ryan Reynolds, and the duo owns a football club together. McElhenney was supposed to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, but his cameo was cut. Today, Reynolds took to Instagram to honor his friend and explain why the scene didn't make it into the film.

"A word on my 'darling' friend, @robmcelhenney. Rob very kindly did a cameo in #DeadpoolAndWolverine which will hopefully live on in the digital extras. While editing a movie, they say you 'sometimes have to kill your darlings.' And with a heavy heart (and through great outside intervention) I had to kill a darling with this cameo," Reynolds wrote.

"The sequence wasn't working the way we'd originally constructed it," he continued. "Rob was the only reason it stayed in the cut for as long as it did, because even under a TVA mask and helmet, you can feel him smoldering with a raw and almost infinite reservoir of talent, writerly wit and 'I create hit tv shows' swagger. Don't even get me started on Wrexham. I wouldn't know a love like @wrexham_afc if it weren't for Rob McElhenney."

"Anyway, I loved making this movie but it wasn't without stress," Reynolds added. "There was a lot of expectation - and I'm pretty sure the most well written villain in cinema history is 'Expectation.' And when you do stressful stuff, it feels good when friends are nearby. And even though I'm mortified he flew all the way to London for a cameo that wasn't meant to be, I'm grateful my friend was there with me on that set. When I see Rob, my heart-rate slows and my nervous system stops yelling at me. He shows up for people. And he showed up for me. *Even as he begged for his life before Alioth snatched his unsuspecting body into the air, swallowing him whole, eventually digesting and converting him into Alioth-poo. RIP TVA Soldier. ???"

"p.s. Rob would make an awesome Hydra Bob. @marvelstudios," he concluded. You can view the post below:

Scarlet Witch Could Reportedly Return in Upcoming MCU Series https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/scarlet-witch-elizabeth-olsen-ultron-james-spader-vision-quest-mcu-series-return-possible/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 19:42:00 +0000 Aaron Perine fbe822aa-2740-486c-9276-1603c3e40bdd

Marvel's Vision Quest could bring the return of Scarlet Witch according to a new report. The Hollywood Reporter broke news about James Spader returning to Marvel as Ultron for the upcoming Disney+ series. Now, Deadline is reporting that Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff has a possibility to return in Vision Quest too. Fans online have been wondering about the fan-favorite Avenger since the conclusion of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Of course, it looked like she perished there, but in the world of comics, nothing is truly forever. (The MCU's official timeline book has Scarlet Witch dying there on Wundagore Mountain.)

In that same officially-endorsed book, the scene is described: "As the kindly 838-Wanda gathers the boys and assures the heartbroken Scarlet Witch they will be loved, the Wanda Maximoff of Universe-616 surrenders: She destroys Wundagore-and collapses it upon herself-ending two great threats to all of the Multiverse."

If ever there was a time to announce a bunch of high profile returns, it would be now. Ultron coming back is something that Marvel fans have been wondering about for almost 3 years now. Spader voiced the variant of Ultron from What If...? that opposed the Guardians of the Multiverse. Now, he's back to battle wits and brawn with Paul Bettany's Vision. Just a few weeks ago both The Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. reunited with Marvel as well for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. If there was a theme for the announcements from the last 12 months, its been that everything old is new again!

When Scarlet Witch finally comes back, Elizabeth Olsen's got some ideas about where to take her character next. ComicBook actually asked the Wanda Maximoff actress about the future in a previous interview. There are a lot of possibilities out there. But, for Olsen, getting to that Witches Road storyline is high up on the list. (Interestingly, that concept is getting the Disney+ treatment in Agatha All Along in a couple of weeks!)

"I think fans usually have the best ideas and I genuinely don't know where we go from here and what the limitations are of the MCU because I don't follow what their plans are," Olsen explained in our interview. "I feel like the fans always know what the plans are, even when they're not announced. And so, I don't. I do have this image.... There are a few images in my head of, I think they're from 'Witches Road,' as she's aging and decaying, while using her power and there's something in that, this older woman, who's aging from her power, that I'm interested in. Dan Stevens Reveals Why He Tricked Marvel Fans Into Thinking He Was in Eternals https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-eternals-why-dan-stevens-lied-kro-role-mcu-interviews-explained/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 19:23:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 482d9f5d-d3c1-4b39-9f81-efdfc5ca05d8

Actor Dan Stevens has gained major acclaim for his roles in shows like FX's Legion and Hulu's Solar Opposites - as well as recent films like the horror flick Abigail and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. However, Stevens saw his star rise in a peculiar way back in the late 2010s: rumors started floating around that Stevens was attached to a major Marvel Studios production - a rumor began stoking himself, even though it was just that - a rumor. Now, in a new interview, Stevens is explaining why he decided to play with Marvel Cinematic Universe fans' expectations - and what kind of price he's paid for doing it.

For background: Dan Stevens was in the UK filming the Netflix comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga in 2019. At that same time, in that same place, Marvel Studios was also shooting Eternals. Stevens is friends with Eternals cast members Brian Tyree Henry and Kumail Nanjiani, and met up with them for a night out in London; a picture of the trio quickly went viral, as Marvel fans began theorizing that the photo was a slip-up, which revealed Stevens' secret role in Eternals.

The rumor mill quickly turned to the idea that Stevens was providing motion capture and vocals for Kro, the leader of the Deviants, the Eternals' genetic rivals. There was nothing to those rumors, but Stevens decided to troll Marvel fans while doing press interviews for his own projects - going so far as to tell Collider's Steve Weintraub "Kro comment" when asked about the rumors. That teasing eventually came back on Stevens, as rabid Marvel fans and reporters all began to question him incessantly about Eternals, and all the Marvel Comics history attached to it:

"What happened was, I was in London shooting Eurovision Song Contest when my good friends Brian Tyree Henry and Kamal Nanjani were in London shooting 'Eternals,' and we went for a curry," Stevens recently explained to The Playlist. "And as sometimes happens when you're hanging out with actor friends, everyone's like, 'let's take a selfie,' and someone posted it, and in the way that only the internet can, it just was like, 'He must be playing [Kro].' And I was like, 'What are you talking about?' And so, we just had fun teasing fans for a while."

(Photo: Marvel)

Stevens went on to admit that the joke got out of hand when his press tours became bombarded with MCU questions:

"It did get kind of out of hand where, like, I would sit in junkets like this with something completely unconnected, and people would say, 'So, you know, what's it like working with Chloe Zhao?' And I'd be like, 'Oh, listen, let me stop you right there. This has gotten way out of hand.' But, yeah, all that happened is we went for a friendly dinner in London."

As it turned out, it was IT movie (and currently The Crow reboot) star Bill Skarsg?rd who provided some of the performance for Kro; beyond his role as Charles Xavier's troubled (and powerful) mutant son Legion, Dan Stevens has yet to find his big Marvel breakout role.

Marvel's Eternals is now streaming on Disney+.

Deadpool & Wolverine: "Bye Bye Bye" Reaches New UK Peak https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-nsync-dance-bye-bye-bye-uk-chart-streaming-peak/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 18:57:00 +0000 Aaron Perine c873ac0c-51aa-44a7-ae9f-baa3bfaeda6e

Deadpool & Wolverine continues to propel *NSYNC's "Bye, Bye, Bye" to new heights. This week's UK Official Streaming Chart sees the 90s classic clocking in at #12. This is a wild ascent for a song that predates this particular chart's existence by a few decades! Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's MCU romp continues to bring in returns at the box office. But, these kinds of streaming numbers mean they have kept the Y2K wave rolling in popular culture as well. (Madonna's "Like A Prayer" has also enjoyed the buoying effect of the movie too.) While maybe not every single video on the world's FYP is of Deadpool doing this iconic dance, there are still a lot of them out there.

Going through some quick numbers helps put this achievement into context. On the U.S. Exclusive Chart, "Bye, Bye, Bye" made it all the way to number 8. Over on the Billboard Hot 100, *NSYNC's old single ended up at number 45 just a little while ago. (There was never any doubt that it would come close to hitting number 4, the previous high water mark for the song back when it was released.) Still, that 800% increase in sales since Deadpool & Wolverine hit theaters is nothing to scoff at. We're looking at a genuine monoculture moment around the MCU after people had argued that time had passed this franchise by.

In the first week after release, Deadpool & Wolverine managed to get "Bye, Bye, Bye" into the Spotify Top 20. Shawn Levy himself had to laugh about the development on social media after discovering that kind of sway. It's been 24 years since *NSYNC decided to light up our lives with a very "of the time"music video for the single. Who would have thought the summer of 2024 would have been a resurgence on this scale?

In Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The film also stars Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, and Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, with the return of Deadpool alums Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Aaron Stanford is returning as Pyro from the X-Men film series, with Jennifer Garner rumored to return as Elektra Natchios.

Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D'Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey and Simon Kinberg serving as executive producers. Deadpool & Wolverine is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.

Witchblade Reveals Deadpool & Wolverine-Inspired Variant Cover https://comicbook.com/comics/news/witchblade-reveals-deadpool-wolverine-inspired-variant-cover/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 17:32:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 68265b99-3765-4634-884c-925813299696 Top Cow has announce a new, 1:25 variant cover for Witchblade #3, drawn by Marc Silvestri and inspired by Deadpool & Wolverine, which was in turn inspired by Marc Silvestri. Confused yet?...Well, Silvestri drew the iconic cover to Uncanny X-Men #251, which served to inspire a scene in Deadpool & Wolverine. Since the Easter egg-filled movie has gone on to make more than $1 billion and become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, that drew the attention of Silvestri, who decided to release an homage cover of his own in September, which you can see below.

The image appears to be a recolored version of Silvestri's cover for Witchblade #170, which hit stores in October 2013. It features Sara Pezzini/Witchblade crucified on a giant, wooden "W" as opposed to the X that Wolverine was hanging on.

Witchblade (2024) #3 variant cover by Marc Silvestri

- Top Cow/Image Comics)

"Hugh Jackman did a great job recreating Marc Silvestri's iconic Uncanny X-Men #251 cover in Deadpool & Wolverine, But, Silvestri's Witchblade did it better," Top Cow posted on social media, along with a winking emoji. They added, "Just joking! We love you [Hugh] - You are Wolverine."

In Uncanny X-Men #251, Wolverine disassociates while being tortured by Donald Pierce and the anti-mutant terrorists The Reavers. In Witchblade #170, a murder victim was found, beheaded and crucified, and Sara had to find the killer. No word yet on whether there will be any literal connection to the plot of the new Witchblade issue, or if it's just a great pinup cover.

In Witchblade #3, out on September 18th, "Sara Pezzini grapples with the deadly powers of the Witchblade while corrupt cops, human traffickers, and supernatural conspiracies tighten the noose around her neck. A terrifying new hunter emerges in the form of Ian Nottingham, but is he here to save her, sabotage her-or seduce her?"

Orders for the issue are due on August 26th, so to get your copy of this snazzy variant, you'll have to act fast.

Below, you can see the order codes for each cover, which you can give your local comics retailer, along with a short history lesson on the cover from Top Cow:

Marvel's Vision Series Bringing Back James Spader's Ultron https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/marvel-vision-series-james-spader-ultron-return-mcu/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 17:26:00 +0000 Timothy Adams bef80ea2-811c-4d7c-b0e0-0422a6dc01f5

James Spader is making a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ultron in Vision Quest. The upcoming Disney+ series doesn't have an official title just yet, though it's been referred to as Vision Quest, a callback to a popular Vision storyline in the comics. Fans last heard James Spader as Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he was the main antagonist against Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Ultron was ultimately killed by Vision at the end of the movie, but any comic book fan knows that there's always a way around death, and Spader and Ultron appear to be on the rebound.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Spader will reprise his voice role as Ultron in Marvel's Vision streaming series for Disney+. Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas is helming what's being loosely referred to as Vision Quest, and follows up on the events from WandaVision, with Vision's white robotic body going on a search for an identity. Paul Bettany plays the android Avenger, who was brought back to life after his death at the hand of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

WandaVision actually featured two versions of Vision: his original repaired body that took on the white color theme, and a Vision created by the Scarlet Witch's powers. The latter drifted out of existence after Wanda Maximoff dropped her spell over the town of Westview.

A spinoff focused on Bettany's White Vision was first reported to be in the works in 2022. WandaVision head writer and executive producer Jac Schaefer was reportedly assembling a writers' room, only for Schaefer to instead run the Agatha All Along spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn as the Westview witch. In 2023, listings on the Writers' Guild of America website revealed that Megan McDonnell (WandaVision) and Peter Cameron (Moon Knight) were among the writers tapped for that version of the show, but it's unclear if they're still involved with Matalas' as-yet-untitled Vision series.

"I mean, why wouldn't I? Yes, 100%," Bettany said during a recent convention appearance when a fan asked whether he would ever return to the MCU in "any way, shape, or form."

Vision Quest will reportedly debut on Disney+ in 2026.

Thunderbolts Cast Teases Where We Meet Their Characters https://comicbook.com/movies/news/thunderbolts-florence-pugh-sebastian-stan-david-harbour-wyatt-russell-cast-where-we-meet-mcu/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 14:23:00 +0000 Aaron Perine feb31bb4-ad7d-4887-8728-d2e651139153

The cast of Thunderbolts* is teasing where we meet their characters headed into the big Marvel crossover movie next year. The Official Marvel Podcast talked to the star-studded cast of this film. Florence Pugh, David Harbor, Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell checked in for a quick soundbyte. For Yelena Belova, fans are going to see a side of the Black Widow that they've never experienced before. She's popped up multiple times since Avengers: Endgame and now we've got her as a focus character in Thunderbolts*. Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, and Bucky have all kind of fallen on hard times since the events of their previous projects and the boys say they've been going through it. Check out what all of them had to say about their next trip to the MCU right here.

Pugh said after the event, "To be able to come back again. But, show another side of what it is to be a human, going through life in the way that she does, that may not necessarily be the way that we would assume that they live, is beautiful for me."

David Harbour, Wyatt Russell and Sebastian Stan can commiserate with the Thunderbolts* crew not being in a good place. The Red Guardian actor said, "None of us are in a good place. I'm eating something disgusting out of a bowl. Gaining weight as you watch the film in real time." Russell of course has to laugh at that before joking about getting shot at a lot. Harbour teases, "We do see you scrolling through your phone, looking for bad press! Like Googling himself and saying, 'If I don't find the nasty comments, then I'm not finished."

Prepare For The Thunderbolts*!

A lot of fun in this roster.

)

San Diego Comic-Con Brought a brand new look at Thunderbolts*. In that new footage, fans got the sense of this ragtag team and what is different about the approach to this Marvel movie. Red Guardian, in particular, has been a source of laughs in the past. Harbour said after the footage premiered that people should not be expecting the same old types of heroics from this new team. They're a bit different.

"We are not the good guys," Harbour replied when asked how they compare with The Avengers. "We are not capable. [We're not] Captain America responsible. We don't show up on time. Punctuality is not our strong suit."

"We're a completely new species of hero, I would say," Harbour would continue. "We don't exist yet in the MCU. I think we're a new evolution of something. I don't know if it's good or bad, but it's unique."

I Hate Fairyland: Skottie Young Homages Marvel's Oz With New Cover https://comicbook.com/comics/news/i-hate-fairyland-skottie-young-homages-marvel-oz-new-cover/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 04:21:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson e6001189-bd01-4237-a1fc-c284446993a2

Image Comics' fan-favorite series I Hate Fairyland is about to have a major full circle moment. Earlier this week, Image Comics revealed a new cover for the forthcoming I Hate Fairyland #17, which will be released wherever comics are sold in November. Skottie Young's cover intentionally mirrors his illustration for 2009's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz #1, the first issue in his and Eric Shanower's adaptation of L. Frank Baum's iconic novel of the same name.

Given the narrative similarities between The Wizard of Oz and I Hate Fairyland -- albeit, with the latter series taking a darker and more violent twist -- this cover is particularly clever. It has also been teased that the "Happy Ending" arc that I Hate Fairyland #17 is a part of will directly include characters from The Wizard of Oz, so it will be interesting to see how that story arc develops.

What Is I Hate Fairyland About?

I Hate Fairyland follows Gert, a six year old girl who has been stuck in the magical world of Fairyland for thirty years and will hack and slash her way through anything to find her way back home.

"It's amazing," Young told ComicBook in an exclusive interview at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. "Just the fact that I'm publishing a book at Image comics, being an Image kid myself, buying Spawn #1 on the shelf, buying WildC.A.T.S. #1 on the shelf, Savage Dragon #1 on the shelf. So the fact that I have Image Comics #1's that people buy is amazing," Young said. "The idea that it's lasted 10 years blows my mind. I feel like I'm living out my childhood dream... We are cooking some fun things up. We have some pretty big things that we were just talking about before stepping in here. I think everyone will have lots of fun, us most of all."

What Is I Hate Fairyland #17 About?

"HAPPY END GAME," Part Two of Five
Happy leads the army of dead Gerts from Hell, through the Inferno and into Fairyland. Gert needs allies, so the King summons a legend from Kansas who's pretty familiar with fighting off WICKED forces! Who could it be? Maybe someone who's into glittery footwear? Yellow Bricks? Any guesses?

I Hate Fairyland #17 will be available wherever comics are sold on November 6th.

Jerry O'Connell Details His Mystique Collection That Embarrasses His Wife https://comicbook.com/movies/news/jerry-oconnell-x-men-mystique-collection-embarasses-rebecca-romijn/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 02:24:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 70d2e9ec-d780-471f-90d8-1cc16736e900

Star Trek: Lower Decks star Jerry O'Connell says that one of his Comic Con hobbies is looking for collectables featuring his wife, Rebecca Romijn, during her years as Mystique in the X-Men franchise. Romijn, who played Mystique in the first three X-Men films between 2000 and 2006, married O'Connell in 2007. The duo have been together since, appearing as Superman and Lois Lane in the animated The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen movies as well as in the indie slasher comedy Satanic Panic and Lower Decks, among other things. And, yes, Romijn is just the tiniest bit embarrassed by all her husband's little plastic versions of her.

Not enough to put a stop to it, though. The couple, who are often publicly adorable, seem pretty at peace with her supervillain past, with O'Connell having recently shown up at a convention cosplaying as her shape-shifting mutant alter ego.

"My wife was Mystique in X-Men, and whenever I come to a con, I look for obscure, unique Mystique figures and figurines. We collect them and I put them up," O'Connell told ComicBook.

He added, "I put it up, it's mine, and my wife is a little embarrassed by it, but it's my Mystique shelf."

In an interview last year, Romijn acknowledged having had bad experiences working with X-Men: The Last Stand filmmaker Brett Ratner, who has since been largely sidelined in Hollywood following allegations of abuse. Nevertheless, it seems her experience on the X-Men franchise was broadly positive, saying in 2014 that she would happily reprise the role.

What is Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5 about?

According to Paramount+'s official synopsis, "In season five of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing 'space potholes' - subspace rifts which are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Jr. Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford...if they didn't also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries and scariest of all: their own career aspirations. This upcoming season on Paramount+ is a celebration of this underdog crew who are dangerously close to being promoted out of the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles."

Star Trek: Lower Decks follows the support crew serving on one of Starfleet's least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos. The Star Trek: Lower Decks voice cast includes Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, No?l Wells, and Eugene Cordero as the junior officers and Dawnn Lewis, Jerry O'Connell, Fred Tatasciore, and Gillian Vigman as the Cerritos bridge crew.

CBS' Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment produce Star Trek: Lower Decks. The show's executive producers include Alex Kurtzman, Mike McMahan, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth. Titmouse is the animation studio behind the series.

Star Trek: Lower Decks streams exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Latin America. Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5 premieres on Paramount+ on Thursday, October 24th, with the debut of the final season's first two episodes.

Robert Downey Jr. Credits Tobey Maguire With Getting Him Into Marvel Movies https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-robert-downey-jr-credits-tobey-maguire-superhero-movies/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 02:06:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson f1ec14f4-c370-49ec-a73a-3dff27994014

To the surprise of many fans, it was announced earlier this summer that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios confirmed at this year's San Diego Comic-Con that Downey has been cast as Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom in the upcoming movies Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with Disney Parks also announcing that he will be reprising his role as Tony Stark / Iron Man in a new Avengers Campus ride. This comes after Downey portrayed Iron Man onscreen for over a decade -- and as it turns out, we have another Marvel star to thank, in part, for that initial casting. During a recent appearance on The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast, Downey specifically shouted out Spider-Man trilogy star Tobey Maguire, who he starred alongside in 2000's Wonder Boys, for illuminating what the experience of being in a superhero movie could be like.

"In real-time, I saw how difficult they were, how rewarding they could be, and how popular [comic book films] were becoming," Downey explained, adding, "I had been clean long enough...hungry even longer and I could feel [the] obsession coming back with manifesting the best version of myself. I had strangely been furiously strength training six times a week before I even knew [this role] was coming, and my shrink had told me, 'Just start acting like something great is gonna happen and get ready for it.'"

Why Is Robert Downey Jr. Returning to the MCU?

In the same interview, Downey shared a bit of insight on how his dual Marvel returns came to be, revealing the role that both Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger had in the proceedings.

"Probably a year ago, because Feige and I have kept in touch," Downey revealed. "We're pals. Favreau and Feige and I have kept in touch. I'm close with the Russo brothers. We have other business we're doing. So there's this little group of fellow travelers, and I had this instinct that I wanted to go to Bob Iger. And I had an idea, outside of the cinematic universe, for how I could be of service to what's going on in the parks and all their location-based energy. And Susan and I were sitting down with Feige at one point, and he said, 'It just keeps occurring to me that, if you were to come back...' And Susan was like, 'Wait, wait, come back as what?' And then we both realized, over time, that it was another thing that just disproves any doubt anyone could ever have about that guy. [He's] a very sophisticated, creative thinker about, 'How can we not go backwards? How can we not disappoint expectations? How can we continue to to beat expectations?' And he brought up Victor von Doom, and I looked into [the] character, and I was like, 'Wow.' And later on, he goes, 'Let's get Victor von Doom right. Let's get that right.' So then I said to Kevin, 'Can I go talk to Bob Iger?' He goes, 'About?' I go, 'About everything.'"

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released exclusively in theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.

Robert Downey Jr. Reveals MCU Return as Doctor Doom Started a Year Ago https://comicbook.com/movies/news/robert-downey-jr-mcu-return-doctor-doom-started-year-ago/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 01:37:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 94fce412-6259-434a-9a56-39f909ca5236

After portraying Tony Stark / Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade, Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the franchise's fold. In addition to being cast as Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom in the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies, it was confirmed at this month's D23 Expo that Downey will be reprising his role of Iron Man in a new theme park ride at Disneyland's Avengers Campus. During a recent appearance on The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast, Downey shared a bit of insight on how his dual Marvel returns came to be, revealing the role that both Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger had in the proceedings.

And he brought up Victor von Doom, and I looked into [the] character, and I was like, 'Wow.' And later on, he goes, 'Let's get Victor von Doom right. Let's get that right.' So then I said to Kevin, 'Can I go talk to Bob Iger?' He goes, 'About?' I go, 'About everything.'"

"And I'd gone to Bob's house, which I don't know how to describe that experience," Downey continued. "I've had a lot of really cool experiences. We go to Iger's pad, and we sit down and start saying, 'I just really want to be...' He goes, 'I like it.' I was like, 'He likes it.' He goes 'Come by the Imagineering campus.' Feige and I go to the Imagineering campus and -- you want to talk about two guys that are not easy to have their minds blown, let alone at the same time. I can't say too much about it, but what is going on there right now is so beyond my expectation of what was possible. no wonder it was numinous to me. It's also the only way that I felt like I can give a certain entertainment-seeking audience, something that they may have a hankering to have an experience of, in a way where I can continue to develop my interest in the future of entertainment. Where the hell else should you go back there? So it's this crazy, weird thing that's going on, and if that all goes to sh-t, we'll just remake what many people say is the greatest film of all time."

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released exclusively in theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.

Channing Tatum Responds to Minions Joke About His Gambit Accent in Deadpool & Wolverine https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-and-wolverine-channing-tatum-gambit-accent-dialect-minions-joke/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 23:50:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 1a0e82c5-e16e-485a-af37-3b230634d012

Channing Tatum is revealing his true feelings about those accent jokes in Deadpool & Wolverine. "Who's your dialect coach? The Minions?" Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth quips about Tatum's Cajun-accented Gambit, referring to the mush-mouthed Minionese speakers from the Despicable Me movies. Gambit being hard to understand is a running joke, with Deadpool referencing the 1996 film Sling Blade and breaking the fourth wall when he claims "we're missing critical exposition" when delivered by the New Orleans native.

In a Vanity Fair lie detector test conducted by his Blink Twice director and real-life fianc?e Zo? Kravitz, Tatum was asked whether or not Deadpool's Minion joke was "fair criticism."

"'Fair' is an interesting word in that question," he answered. "No, I don't think that's fair." The lie detector determined Tatum was telling the truth, cher.

Tatum previously told Access Hollywood that the accent joke was scripted by Reynolds, who co-wrote the screenplay with director Shawn Levy, original Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

"That was him. There was very little improv. But the Cajun dialect is a very particular one," Tatum said. "I grew up in Mississippi and my dad is from New Orleans. So it's one of those things that I grew up around it, but I've never done it."

"There are certain little isms that are very Cajun-y, but we actually intended it to be somewhat unintelligible. That was sort of the joke," Tatum added. "[Ryan would] come up to be and say, 'I don't want to know anything that you're saying on this [take], so I just dialed it all the way up. And then other ones he's like, 'All right, I've got to understand what you're saying now.'"

Reynolds paid sincere tribute to Tatum in a social media post, writing that the card-carrying Cajun is a role "Chan was born to play."

"His story is similar to mine in that he spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen. Remy LeBeau is grafted to his soul and needs to come out and deal," Reynolds wrote of the unmade X-Men spinoff formally announced by Fox back in 2015. "And Gambit found his author in Chan. He's one of the coolest, smartest characters in comics and still largely unexplored." Reynolds went on to praise Tatum as "one of the greatest, hardest working, kindest people in this entire industry," adding: "I couldn't be more thrilled to see @channingtatum pull Gambit from the dead and bring him to life at the perfect time and perfect way."

Deadpool & Wolverine: Marvel Releases New GIFY Stickers of Cameo Characters https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/deadpool-wolverine-marvel-releases-new-gify-stickers-of-cameo-characters/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 23:15:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 5c483bb7-98bf-493f-895d-e75eb70a518a

Deadpool & Wolverine hit theaters at the end of July, and it didn't take Marvel Studios long to start posting about some of the movie's biggest cameos. The film was full of surprises and saw Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) teaming up with an unlikely band of heroes in The Void. Blade (Wesley Snipes), Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and Laura/X-23 (Dafne Keen) all ended up being important players in the film. Today, Marvel Studios shared some GIFY stickers of those four characters in addition to other Void staples, Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) and Ladypool (Blake Lively).

"The Void has entered the chat. New #DeadpoolAndWolverine stickers are now available on @GIPHY!" Marvel shared on Instagram. You can check out the adorable stickers in the post below:

Long before his debut as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, Tatum opened up about his disappointment in how things originally unfolded when his solo project was canceled. Now, folks are wondering if his appearance in the Deadpool threequel could mean a return to the character. Recently, Tatum said that he hopes the success of Deadpool & Wolverine could lead to a green light for a new Gambit project.

"Of course I've said it. I've been saying I want it for the last 10 years," Tatum said. "It's in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige's hands. I pray to God."

As for what happened to Gambit after the events of the film, Tatum has some ideas.

"I think at that moment, if I had to guess, he's definitely still in the Void," Tatum told Collider. "But there's something that's happening in that moment that maybe no one knows yet."

Deadpool & Wolverine Concept Art Reveals Marvel Comics Universe Almost Appeared in Film https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-concept-art-marvel-comics-universe-appeared-film/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 23:10:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 02707793-92b5-4761-838e-43814a351966

Deadpool & Wolverine arrived in theaters nearly a month ago, taking fans on a wild ride throughout the Marvel multiverse -- and apparently, that nearly included a surprising tribute to Marvel Comics. In a recent post on Instagram, Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park revealed a piece of art he created in the very early days of Deadpool & Wolverine, in which Wade Wilson / Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) would have ended up in the literal universe of Marvel Comics. Park's rendering of this potential scene presents Deadpool and the original six Avengers of the MCU each in their own distinct art style reminiscent of their most iconic comic artists. While Park did not confirm the exact references used, fans have speculated about everything from Bob Layton's Iron Man to Jack Kirby's Captain America to Sal Buscema's Hulk.

"In my last post I was honoring my 1st boss (& creator of Deadpool) in @robliefeld," Park's caption reads. "This post I show you how I honored MANY comic book legends during preproduction on working on the DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE film before there was even a script. I pitched a fun idea where Deadpool would jump through multiverses and arrive at the MCU, Marvel COMICS Universe! And each character would exist in the art style of a legendary comic book artist. Each who have inspired me greatly! Can you name identify all of these legendary artists/creators? This piece (& more) will also be included in the upcoming The Art of Deadpool and Wolverine."

Captain America 4: Harrison Ford Shares Why He Joined the MCU https://comicbook.com/movies/news/captain-america-4-mcu-harrison-ford-why-he-joined-anthony-mackie/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 22:15:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 7786abcb-d9af-4249-a27d-0e7774be3610

Captain America: Brave New World Star Harrison Ford explained why he decided to join the Marvel Studios movie. The Official Marvel Podcast got a second with the actor after a big weekend at D23. Ford's biggest reason for joining up was the experience other established actors had in this massive franchise. The Indiana Jones star tried to play it humble and say that even though he wasn't a brilliant actor, he could have a good time in the MCU. His role in Captain America: Brave New World is poised to be one of the biggest entries for this franchise in a long time. In that regard, he'll fit right in.

"I had watched other actors, brilliant actors have a wonderful time," Ford began. "I'm not a brilliant actor, but I thought I might have a good time. I'm delighted by what we've done. The movie's gonna... kick a**.

Amazingly, our prospective Red Hulk isn't the only high-profile debut in the oncoming Captain America movie. Giancarlo Esposito is playing Sidewinder in Brave New World as well. He's excited to begin his journey as well! "To do something new," Esposito responded when asked about his reasons for joining the MCU. "To take a character that's iconic from the comics and create something new is always special to me.

Ford Continues A Legendary Career

Despite all that modesty, it's been a busy few weeks for Harrison Ford. In the midst of trotting out Captain America: Brave New World at Disney's D23 fan event, he also got a massive honor from the company. Ford joined the ranks of other Disney Legends in the 2024 class during that weekend. In fact, his new friend Anthony Mackie was the one to introduce him in front of the packed crowd on Sunday. The 82-year-old is pretty much seen and done everything, but he did seem a bit moved by all the love.

"Dear Harrison Ford, I started my career with you in a small role in a very large movie," Mackie told his co-star. "And now, I have the opportunity to sit on set with you every day, as not only my mentor, but my co-star. I can't tell you how much it meant to me to have you teach me every day. And show me what it meant to be a leading man. Even though it was my movie, you told me what it meant to carry a crew, to carry a cast, and to be the lead. I thank you for that."

"The Disney Legends Award is the highest honor our company bestows," Disney CEO Bob Iger told the ecstatic audience. "It's presented as a celebration of talent, a recognition of achievement, and, above all, a sincere expression of our deep gratitude. Disney Legends are bound by the special place they have earned in our history for their tremendous contributions in service of entertaining and delighting fans around the globe."

Deadpool & Wolverine: Channing Tatum Says He Was Too Scared to Steal Gambit Costume https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-channing-tatum-scared-steal-gambit-costume-from-set/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 21:56:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw b329941f-200a-4a08-be03-b93d217f115e

Deadpool & Wolverine didn't just bring back some fan-favorite Marvel movie characters of the '90s and 2000s - it also gave one actor who never got a shot to finally make good on a lifelong dream role. Channing Tatum's Gambit had movie theater crowds roaring with joy when he first stepped onscreen in Deadpool & Wolverine - no small feat given that Welsey Snipes' Blade makes a return appearance onscreen right before him. Tatum didn't waste his opportunity to play Gambit, becoming a breakout favorite of Wolverine & Deadpool and maybe setting up a larger opportunity to play the role in the future.

However, in a new interview, Channing Tatum reveals that there is one opportunity he did squander while shooting Deadpool & Wolverine: the chance to steal Gambit's iconic costume!

Tatum and fiancee, actress Zoe Kravitz, have a new thriller movie releasing this week, titled Blink Twice, which was written, directed, and produced by Kravitz, with Tatum starring. Kravitz, Tatum, and Blink Twice co-star Naomi Ackie (The Rise of Skywalker) did a promotional interview with Vanity Fair's Lie Detector Test segment - which was certainly a hot seat experience for Tatum.

deadpool-wolverine-channing-tatum-gambit.jpg

At one point, Tatum was asked about playing Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine and whether or not he asked to keep the costume. Here's what the actor had to say:

"I was too scared to ask. And usually, I steal the very last outfit that I'm in, in every movie, and I was too scared to do it on this one. "

An additional question about Deadpool & Wolverine (all of which Tatum answered truthfully) included the fact that playing Gambit went "beyond" his long-held anticipation for the role. If you don't know your fandom history, Tatum was attached to the Gambit role back when Fox's X-Men Universe was still looking to expand into more solo character spinoffs; he hung on to the project from about 2014-2019, when the Fox-Disney Deal ended all hopes that he would get his shot at a Gambit film and/or a spot in the larger X-Men franchise. In that sense, Deadpool & Wolverine really is the second chance that Tatum never thought he'd get - and he's been nothing but appreciative to the fans, Ryan Reynolds, and the entire team behind the film.

After the billion-dollar success of Deadpool & Wolverine, and Channing Tatum's Gambit becoming a viral sensation on socials, the actor may still get that larger Marvel movie future he hoped for. The talks are already happening.

Deadpool & Wolverine is now in theaters.

Marvel's Blade Director Still Attached to Project https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvels-blade-wesley-snipes-mahershala-ali-director-yann-demange-report/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 19:51:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 38f9cf12-5cdf-486d-9aaf-7f050fbb2aec

Blade's director is reportedly not leaving the project. Deadline says that Yann Demange is still attached to Marvel Studios' vampire picture. After numerous reports, some from other trade publications, indicated that the filmmaker had departed the project, it's now been revealed that Demange is staying put. Just before San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige revealed that Marvel Studios had received a script and would be reviewing the latest version soon. The MCU architect also told fans that they were intent on getting Blade right so they wouldn't be rushing any element of the highly-anticipated revival. Now, with a director attached, maybe the momentum can continue to build.

All the hand ringing around Blade has encouraged the Internet to speculate to its heart's content. When asked about the current production, Deadpool & Wolverine star Wesley Snipes had to offer EW his take on all of the reporting around Marvel Studios' Blade. As always, the day walker thanks making a Blade movie is harder than anybody gives it credit for. But, he's also not keen on blaming Marshalla Ali for anything that might be going on with the development cycle either.

"I shouted him out, told him he's got all my blessings and support," Snipes told the outlet. "I even referenced the fact that some of the challenges they're facing now with the project, it shouldn't be accredited to him ... It's not the actor's fault. There's a lot more that goes on with pulling this Blade stuff off ... You need a lot of secret sauce to do the Blade thing, man. Good luck. You're my man, though."

Well, One Blade Has Already Shown Up

Blade fever is still rolling strong at the movie theater. Snipes popping up in Deadpool & Wolverine was a legitimate surprise for most of the fans out there. The actor talked about the long process of getting back to this role in the same EW interview.

"Over the years, we've had very interesting conversations, some of them very substantive and some of them not," Snipes shared. "So I kind of resided that I was moving on from them, which is okay. I did three of them, and I thought they turned out pretty good. Not so bad... So we move on to other things, and bigger and better things, as well."

"I did not think it was possible," Snipes added of his Marvel return. "I didn't think we would be able to pull it off. I didn't think that Marvel was into it, Disney was into it - also because they had Mahershala [Ali] cast for the next upcoming version of it ... I thought it didn't make sense to me, but [when] you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you go, 'Okay, I got to take this call. Let's see what this is about,'" he explained. "He told me the idea... They said 'yes' and 'it's a go.' 'If you're in, we're in.' Here we are."

Deadpool & Wolverine Star Shares Hilarious Outtake https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/deadpool-wolverine-star-shares-hilarious-outtake/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 19:21:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak bedc747c-0c7e-4105-96d3-4f878ea66dc6

The hype for Deadpool & Wolverine is only growing as the movie heads into its fifth weekend having already made over $1.1 billion at the box office. The movie's success has led to a lot of fun posts from the cast ranging from behind-the-scenes selfies from Hugh Jackman to calls for more Blade from Ryan Reynolds. Rob Delaney, who plays Deadpool's pal Peter AKA PeterPool in Deadpool & Wolverine, took to Instagram today to share a hilarious outtake from the set.

"I'm told this scene was cut from #DeadpoolAndWolverine because Ryan & Hugh's suits couldn't be sufficiently moisture-proofed. You be the judge!" Delaney joked. You can watch the video below:

While the cast of Deadpool & Wolverine had many laughs on set, there's also a lot of love between the stars. In fact, Reynolds shared a heartwarming post this week in honor of Delaney and his late son. The actor lost his 2-year-old to a brain tumor a few years ago, and Henry Delaney was honored during the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine. In the post, Reynolds took some time to address the choice to honor Henry with the movie.

"Rob Delaney brought PeterPool (n?e Sugarbear) into our hearts and effortlessly redifined the modern moose-knuckle -- showing just how chic it can be. And if theories are correct, he may be the new Anchor Being," Reynolds wrote in the post. "There's more to [Rob Delaney] than some realize. He's one of the most subversively funny people I know. He's a beautiful acerbic and vulnerable writer. If you stayed through the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, you might notice a credit saying, 'For Henry Delaney.' Henry was Rob's son. And Rob lost his little boy to a brain tumor in 2018 Right as we finished Deadpool 2."

"I've always kicked my own ass because I didn't place a tribute to Henry over the end credits of DP2," Reynolds continued. "If there's a bright side, even more people are seeing Henry's name in the credits ofi. And now, at long last, father and son are sharing the same screen."

Deadpool & Wolverine: Hulk Cameo Released Online https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-and-wolverine-hulk-cameo-clip-mcu/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 18:50:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 1c5b8b69-eff4-41ee-8112-6156e3cc12a5

50 years after his first appearance in the pages of The Incredible Hulk, Wolverine vs. Hulk became a reality in the MCU. Now that smash hit Deadpool & Wolverine is the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time -- amassing a global box office of $1.5 billion after four weeks of release -- Marvel Studios is showing off some of the film's incredible cameos.

A new TV spot from the official Marvel Korea YouTube channel, below, features Mark Ruffalo's Hulk cameo and spoiler-filled footage of the film's many guest stars including the Human Torch (Chris Evans), Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Gambit (Channing Tatum), X-23 (Dafne Keen), and Blade (Wesley Snipes).

"Classic John Byrne brown and tan. You fought the Hulk in this outfit, no?" a fourth wall-breaking Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) asks of a Logan variant (Hugh Jackman), interrupting an imminent fight between the metal-clawed X-Man and the green goliath.

The scene, which features the first live-action appearance of the brown Wolverine costume that debuted in the classic Chris Claremont-John Byrne Uncanny X-Men #139 in 1980, also pays homage to artist Todd McFarlane's iconic cover of 1987's Incredible Hulk #340. (In that issue, it's the grey-skinned Hulk who slugs it out to a standstill with the brown-clad Wolvie in a fierce Texas blizzard.)

Todd McFarlane's original Incredible Hulk #340 cover artwork, left, and one of the many recreations that resembles the homage in Deadpool & Wolverine.

"Every now and then people will tell me that there's something in a TV show or a movie -- even sometimes I'm a Jeopardy! question. You don't know it's coming, so it catches you a little bit off guard," McFarlane exclusively told ComicBook about the homage. "You go, 'Okay, I didn't have anything to do with it, so I don't know.' I find that the neighbors get more excited, right? They'll come knocking on the door: 'Did you see The Big Bang Theory last night? They mentioned you.' I'm bored of me."

The cover is one that fans have seen "a million times before," McFarlane added, "But God bless Marvel. They want to keep stoking the McFarlane fires, keep on going. Why am I relevant 30 years later? It's an odd thing to me, but thank you."

Captain America 4: Tim Blake Nelson Teases Favorite Challenge https://comicbook.com/movies/news/captain-america-4-hulk-tim-blake-nelson-leader-villain-favorite-challenge/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 18:42:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 21eb70e7-2757-4fbf-9231-1992657ede0d

Captain America: Brave New World's villain is already being teased by Tim Blake Nelson. Coming out of San Diego Comic-Con, The Official Marvel Podcast asked the actor about what was coming up for The Leader. Nelson quipped that he's been on ice for about 16 years since The Incredible Hulk. Captain America: Brave New World is actually going to take us into that big green brain. Nelson began, "I always like the challenge of presenting a villain's point of view. He's been on ice, shall we say, for about 16 years. But, he comes back with a vengeance." So, there have been some machinations behind the scenes while our favorite Avengers have been saving the world from a variety of threats.

A lot of Marvel fans are going to get stuck on that "been on ice" comment before anything else. The MCU itself has a bit of a preoccupation with some of the characters becoming stuck in cryogenic stasis. Notably Captain America, but also The Winter Soldier, and probably a couple more. Could that present the way that Marvel Studios will explain The Leader's extended absence since The Incredible Hulk? Possibly! But, it is much more likely that Samuel Stearns has been lurking in the shadows this entire time. The villain has probably been waiting for the moment that the universe is the most vulnerable to enact some master plan that puts all of the heroes on notice. For now, we have to wait.

The Leader Has Been Busy

The Leader is back!

- Marvel Studios, Marvel Comics)

There are a ton of dramatic Marvel returns in Captain America: Brave New World. But, the biggest one, arguably, is The Leader. While Nelson was teasing the reason for his extended absence up above, the actor has also been open about wanting the MCU villain to be as practical as possible in the upcoming movie. Talking to ComicBook at San Diego Comic-Con, Nelson said that keeping things grounded was his biggest ask in order to return. After all, The Incredible Hulk only teased his final form and its a bit of an open slate. Early teases have been promising, but the star thinks comics fans will be happy with what Marvel came up with.

"When I was asked to come back and play this character, one of my stipulations was -- although, I have to admit, if they'd said no, I still would have done it...but pretending I could have a stipulation was, I begged, could you guys please let me do this practically?" Nelson told ComicBook. "I don't want to wear dots. I'd like to have the appliance. I wanted to feel the weight of it; I wanted to look in the mirror and see myself that way, and I wanted the actors on set with whom I was interacting to see me that way. It just deepens it."

Deadpool & Wolverine is about to head into its fifth weekend in theaters, and the film has been crushing box office records left and right. Not only has the movie made over $1.1 billion at the box office, but it also beat Joker to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. The movie is also up on Rotten Tomatoes with a 78% critics score and a 95% audience score. In honor of the film's success, Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) has shared many posts on social media ranging from a heartfelt thank you video for fans to behind-the-scenes selfies in his super suit. Today, the actor took to Instagram with a new behind-the-scenes video in honor of his hair and makeup team.

"This is a peek inside the HMU trailer on #deadpoolandwolverine. @wljames and @sean105 you are two of the most talented and patient people I have ever known. Even when the days are long and we are running on fumes, when we are chasing light, or catching lightning in a bottle, when I'm cranky and usually hungry ... you both know before I say a word and have the playlist ready for all of it. I'm grateful beyond words. ??," Jackman captioned the post. You can watch the video below:

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Return, Explained:

When Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman announced they would be teaming up for the third Deadpool movie, fans wondered how the film would follow the events of Logan. In James Mangold's 2017 film, Jackman's Wolverine finally died, and it was not only permanent, but it was incredibly emotional and satisfying for viewers. Understandably, fans have been worried that Deadpool & Wolverine might tarnish Logan's legacy. While the new film certainly has its fun with Logan, it does an excellent job of making Jackman's return make sense while also allowing the Wolverine we know and love to rest in peace.

Deadpool & Wolverine kicks off with Deadpool digging up Logan's body, only to be disappointed that the hero is actually dead. The Merc with the Mouth goes on to use Logan's adamantium-ridden bones as weapons to decimate members of the TVA, and while that might bother some, most will probably delight in the humor. Since Logan from the previous films is officially dead, Deadpool has to set off to other universes to try and find a Wolverine that can help him in his quest to save his universe.

Deadpool visits many versions of Wolverine, which includes some huge surprises. Eventually, he meets the titular Wolverine, who is down on his luck and struggling with his past mistakes. This Wolverine isn't a hero like the one we're used to. In fact, he let down his entire X-Men team in a big way. Since he considers himself a failure, Wolverine is quick to anger and is certainly unamused by Deadpool's antics.

Despite having a different history than the Wolverine who died in Logan, it's still easy to get attached to this new version. He may be rougher around the edges, but Jackman is no stranger to bringing Wolverine to life in a satisfying way.

The Bushwacker figure is all new to the Marvel Legends lineup, and includes an effects piece and alternate hands, one of which features his uncomfortably long pistol finger.

Marvel Legends Punisher and Bushwacker 2-Pack

If you're unfamiliar, Bushwacker aka Carl Burbank is was originally a priest who left the clergy and became a CIA assassin (as one does). He was created by Ann Nocenti and artist Rick Leonardi in the pages of 1987's Daredevil #248, and has most frequently appeared in issues of Daredevil but has crossed paths with Wolverine of the X-Men and the Punisher as a hired gun employed by the Kingpin. In this case, "hired gun" takes on new meaning as he is a villain known for his unique ability to transform his cybernetic arm into a variety of firearms.

The Punisher Returns In Daredevil: Born Again

Speaking of the Punisher, Jon Bernthal will return as Frank Castle in the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to premiere on the streamer in March 2025. The first trailer debuted at Disney's D23 event, and Berenthal thinks that fans of the original Netflix show will be on board for the new ride:

"I think if you're a fan of the show that you saw before, you're gonna be a fan of this. I think we're just taking it a step further," Bernthal told Marvel Entertainment following Marvel Studio's D23 presentation. "We're all here, we're all enormously happy to be with each other, we're proud of what we did. If you're a fan of [Marvel's Daredevil], you're gonna be enormously happy."

Marvel's Daredevil spawned the interconnected series Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders, which were all cancelled between 2018 and 2019. Disney added all six shows to Disney+ in 2022, and by 2024, the streamer's official MCU timeline was updated with the "Defenders-Verse" series.

Wolverine: Revenge #4 Cover and Red Band Edition Details Revealed (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/comics/news/wolverine-revenge-4-cover-red-band-edition-november-2024-solicitation-jonathan-hickman-greg-capullo/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 15:52:00 +0000 Timothy Adams d4a2c3b2-656d-486f-a8f7-487a5f27e54e

Wolverine: Revenge is turning out to be more expansive than we initially realized. The prestige series from writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Greg Capullo officially launched this week, and has already provided readers with two unexpected deaths. But with Wolverine: Revenge taking place outside the main Marvel Universe continuity, it allows Hickman and Capullo the freedom and creativity to go in any direction. As the five-issue miniseries reaches its conclusion, fans will see the depths that Wolverine will go to truly get the revenge that he sorely deserves from those who have wronged him.

ComicBook can exclusively reveal the cover and solicitation for November's Wolverine: Revenge #4. It reveals that a great amount of time will pass between the first and fourth issue, and Greg Capullo's cover features a perfect example with Logan sporting a white beard on his face and white hair on his arms. "Time has passed since WOLVERINE'S quest for vengeance began. But as an eye for an eye escalates through the years, revenge becomes a FAMILY AFFAIR!" the solicitation for Wolverine: Revenge #4 reads. "And this is going to be one HELL of a reunion! A shocking development in Hickman and Capullo's saga of the Wolverine that must be experienced to be believed!"

Marvel reveals Wolverine: Revenge #4 Red Band details

Wolverine: Revenge is one of the new titles to get the red band treatment from Marvel. The publisher began releasing red band editions of its comics with the debut of the vampire-centric Blood Hunt, with the individual issues being polybagged and flagged as containing explicit violence and blood.

"The same vicious vengeance unleashed in WOLVERINE: REVENGE #4 - only expanded and bloodier than ever in the Red Band edition featuring exclusive pages! Polybagged to contain the explicit violence!" the description for Wolverine: Revenge #4 - Red Band Edition reads.

What's interesting is by the time Wolverine: Revenge reaches its final issue, the timeline might have extended far enough that we get to see Old Man Logan.

ComicBook's review of Wolverine: Revenge #1 called it "Big, Dumb Fun Done Right," stating that it pulls on both creators' distinct strengths."For as big and bombastic as Wolverine: Revenge #1 may feel at times--featuring mass extinction events and a who's who of X-baddies--it's also an example of less is more," the review reads. "Much like its eponymous anti-hero, the issue is a lean, mean superhero violence machine. It lays out the story, stakes, and motivations with economical efficiency designed to center Capullo's wonderfully expressive action sequences. The result is an incredibly fun presentation of Wolverine focused on their undeniable 80s action movie appeal."

Captain America 4: Anthony Mackie Says Movie Is Better Than Any Tom Holland Project https://comicbook.com/movies/news/captain-america-4-tom-holland-anthony-mackie-mcu-better-than/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 14:57:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 8f06afb8-1e90-4f6f-a128-b9abca3cbd62

Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie previewed what Sam Wilson's been up to since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This week on The Official Marvel Podcast, the new Captain America took a second to talk after those big San Diego Comic-Con reveals. Mackie addressed the upcoming return of Sam Wilson and found time to take a shot at Tom Holland again. Captain America: Brave New World doesn't hit theaters until early next year. But, Marvel is doing its best to get both Mackie and Harrison Ford out there to tease the incoming tussle between the MCU hero and a Red Hulk. Luckily for Sam, he's got at least some backup in the form of a new Falcon. Check out what he had to say right here.

"Well, he's Cap. Finally," Mackie laughed. "Now we see him running missions on his own and trying to figure out where he fits into the whole world. This is way better than any of Tom Holland's movies. And, I have Harrison Ford!"

Mackie had some nice words to say about his Falcon and the Winter Soldier ally Danny Ramirez returning as Joaquin Torrez. He teased the new Falcon, "The stuff that he's doing with his character and what he brings. The flavor, the beauty, the joy he brings to that character. I feel like it brings a whole new energy to the Marvel Universe." In addition, Ramirez is hyped to put those wings on. "It's a beautiful generational baton passing... To put that on and to feel how I felt. To have to do some stuff and feel, 'Oh, this is the movie we're making.' I was finally able to see what it was like for Anthony [Mackie] to put on the suit."

But, of course, we have to talk about Harrison Ford becoming President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Yes, Captain America: Brave New World brings the Star Wars legend into the MCU. During San Diego Comic-Con, Ford said that he was happy to be stepping into the role. He's gained an appreciation for these actors and a really fun chemistry with Mackie in particular. It's a fun-loving side of his public persona that has delighted social media in a lot of ways. Ford is absolutely crushing the early days and everyone is excited to see Red Hulk tangle with Captain America.

"This is a character that's based on a lot of history developed with Bill, who played the character previously," Ford previously explained. "But now, I am Thaddeus, and I'm delighted. And I'm proud to become a member of the Marvel universe. I've been watching fantastic actors -- some of which are here tonight -- have a really good time working in the Marvel universe, and I wanted a piece of the action... I'm very proud to be in this film. I think it has turned out to be fantastic,

Ryan Reynolds Begs Marvel for Blade 4: "Please" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-ryan-reynolds-begs-blade-4-wesley-snipes/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 05:00:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt 2150de7c-6e8b-4f8a-9100-ffed9e9bdfa9

Ryan Reynolds really, really, really wants to see Wesley Snipes back as Blade. For the second time in as many weeks, the Deadpool & Wolverine star took to social media to publicly ask Marvel Studios to bring Snipes back for a Blade 4. Wednesday evening, Reynolds took to his social media accounts to explicitly ask for a "Logan-style send-off," even adding a "please" directed towards Marvel Studios.

"The reaction when @realwesleysnipes enters the movie is the most intense thing l've heard in a theater," Reynolds said alongside a series of behind-the-scenes pictures of he and Snipes. "People screaming with uninhibited joy and love is also the sound of a legacy. More Blade please. #DayWalker. A Logan-style send off, specifically ?"

"I shouted him out, told him he's got all my blessings and support," Snipes previously told EW last month.

Who's all in Deadpool & Wolverine?

In Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) changes the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). ComicBook Nation's The Pull List: Ultimate Spider-Man's Sinister Six and Wolverine's Revenge https://comicbook.com/comics/news/comicbook-nation-the-pull-list-ultimate-spider-man-sinister-six-wolverine-revenge/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 03:39:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 8a752e34-54de-4120-b913-2980a6dd6cb3

While it's only the middle of the week, it also happens to be new comic book day, and that's always a reason to celebrate. This week features a bevy of new titles from DC, Marvel, Image, BOOM!, Dark Horse, Dynamite, Titan, and more, and the ComicBook Nation crew is breaking down some of the biggest books of the week on the new episode of The Pull List. This week that list includes the debut of a new Sinister Six in Ultimate Spider-Man #8, as well as the welcome return of Greg Capullo to Marvel in Wolverine: Revenge #1. We also dig into a stellar new Power Rangers book, the debut of Huge Detective, an advanced review of The Missionary, and new tie-ins to Absolute Power with Wonder Woman and Superman. You can listen to the new episode right here, and we've got a rundown of the biggest highlights from the episode below.

Ultimate Renaissance

(Photo: ComicBook)

Ultimate Spider-Man has managed to capture what many longtime fans have wanted in a Spidey story for quite some time, and issue #8 is indicative of that, featuring so many small but powerful moments amongst the cast that will resonate in some form or fashion. The attention paid to the cast of characters and how they interact with each other has resulted in wonderful and nuanced relationships that feel fresh and full of possibility without abandoning what made those characters great in the first place.

That isn't just in regards to the heroes either, as the villains feel reenergized across the board. The concept of the Sinister Six still feels true to form, but the roster shakes things up and allows for a host of new storytelling possibilities. Did I mention J. Jonah Jameson being an absolute MVP? Well, I have now, and that moment at the birthday party has definitely had a major effect on how I perceive him in this universe.

A Savage Return

Sticking with Marvel, I had no idea what to expect with Wolverine: Revenge from Jonathan Hickman and Greg Capullo, and that might have been the best way possible to experience it. Hickman and Capullo come out swinging with big moments funneled along a simple but absurd effective premise, and the moments of pure shock and brutality are quintessential Wolverine in every way. This book had me from the opening blurb and it never lost steam, upping the ante continuously and setting the stage for what promises to be an epic and even bloodier conflict in future issues. Dinosaurs, exploding supers, and revenge are all on the menu here, and you simply can't pass that up.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Star Gives Major Production Update https://comicbook.com/movies/news/spider-man-beyond-the-spider-verse-star-karan-soni-production-update/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 02:44:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson eaf72712-7daf-4620-a27d-628153f205e4

Sony Pictures' Spider-Verse animated movies have become nothing short of beloved, earning a number of awards and endearing audiences everywhere to a number of Spider-People. While the third film in the saga, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, was originally scheduled to have been released earlier this year, various production delays and last year's Hollywood strikes have caused the film to be delayed indefinitely -- but now we do have a bit of an idea of how work on the film is going. In a recent interview with Times of India, Spider-Man India voice actor Karan Soni reflected on the "deep and lengthy" production process of Beyond the Spider-Verse, revealing that the ensemble cast will begin recording their dialogue for it in a few months.

"I'm continuing on for Spider-Man," Soni revealed. "We're going to start recording for that one in a few months which I'm so excited about. That movie is deep in production. It's animation, so it's different and takes a long time. We'll see when it's ready and when it ends up coming out, but, I'm really excited. That was one of the biggest joys to get to play that character. So I'm excited to get another chance and to do it again."

Why Is Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Getting Delayed?

In 2023, just following the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, reports came out claiming that Beyond the Spider-Verse would get delayed, amid allegations of production troubles and artists and animators claiming that virtually no work had been done. As producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller recently told ComicBook.com, the goal is to make sure Spider-Verse is handled right, as opposed to hitting a certain release date.

"I would say that just like we're going to take the time necessary to make Beyond the Spider-Verse great," Lord said before Miller concluded their answer. "And we won't back into a release date that doesn't fit."

What is Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse About?

Beyond the Spider-Verse is expected to deal with the fallout of the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) stuck on an alternate universe with a more villainous version of himself (Jharrel Jerome).

"Here's what I can promise, and I said it about the second one when we were in the middle of it: Phil Lord, Chris Miller, everybody, the producers on this, the directors they're going to bring in ... What they did on the first one is all the directors became executive producers. So they just keep adding to it. What I can promise is they are not going to stop until it's excellent," Peter B. Parker actor Jake Johnson confirmed to ComicBook.com. "And if that means it takes a little bit longer, if that means it's even bigger, if that means it's longer -- they don't play by anybody's rules. They work really hard. As actors in it, we're always shocked that we get called in to record on this last one. I think it was a month before it screened, where we could not believe we were still recording. So they're not going to quit until it's great and I have nothing but faith in them. But in terms of giving anything away [about the story], can't do it."

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse does not currently have a release date.
