More episodes of Unsolved Mysteries will be arriving on Netflix right in time for the spookiest of holidays. Monday, it was revealed the true crime docuseries will add its next batch of episodes at some point in October, although an exact date has yet to be announced. As it stands now, there are currently 26 episodes of the show's revival currently available for streaming on the service.

"Unsolved Mysteries continues to resonate with viewers in ways we could never have imagined, with some episodes leading to solving cases that were once thought unsolvable," Unsolved Mysteries producer Shawn Levy offered in a statement. "It is a privilege to collaborate with Terry Dunn Meurer and her team on this iconic franchise, and we are so excited to share this next installment of compelling and fascinating mysteries with viewers around the world."

The latest batch of episodes was dropped on Netflix on July 31st. When we spoke to series lead Terry Dunn Meurer in 2022, she stressed the importance of the show in helping solve years-old cases.

"I would say that there are a lot more people who get more deeply involved in some of these cases. With the Netflix series, we know that there's a lot of viewers that do a deep dive and they go into social media," Meurer shared with ComicBook at the time. "I think, as well as for the podcast, people want to know more, and so now they have the opportunity to know more. So when they have the opportunity to know more, they do more digging and then they come up with their own theories and then they communicate with other people who are interested in that particular case. I just think there's more communication than there used to be. When we were just on NBC, the show would air once. You couldn't rewind, look at any clue, you couldn't look at anything. The next time you were going to see that episode was going to be if it reran in the summer. Now you can see all the old shows, they're streaming on various platforms. So it's changed."

She added, "There'd be the stories that you talked about the next day, but you couldn't do the deep dive into the research and the details and see what else you could dig up. People are just more involved, and I think the more people get involved in trying to solve mysteries and trying to analyze these cases, I think that just creates more interest in them, it feeds the beast. Many people say, 'Oh, God, let's give the viewers out there what they're looking for. Let's give them more true crime.' But we don't think of ourselves, I mean, yes, we do crime stories, of course, but we do think of ourselves as a mystery story."

The first four volumes of Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries relaunch are now streaming on the service.

Orphan Black: Echoes Season 2 Gets New Update From Showrunner https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/orphan-black-echoes-season-2-update-showrunner/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 03:53:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 342a6f69-8854-4efc-b3b8-cc007a62899a

This past Sunday brought the Season 1 finale of Orphan Black: Echoes, the buzzy new spinoff to the beloved and Emmy-winning series Orphan Black. At the time of this writing, Echoes has yet to be renewed for a sophomore season, which has worried some viewers after the shocking events of the Season 1 finale -- but apparently, there's still hope for more. In a recent interview with TVLine, Echoes showrunner Anna Fishko confirmed that the series has not been cancelled, and that conversations surrounding more episodes are still "ongoing."

"We're really hoping for a Season 2," Fishko revealed. "It's definitely on the table and a conversation that's ongoing with AMC."

What Is Orphan Black: Echoes About?

Orphan Black: Echoes follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other's lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unraveling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal. Ritter will star as Lucy, a woman who has an unimaginable origin story and is trying to find her place in the world.

Fishko serves as showrunner and writer of Orphan Black: Echoes, while series co-creator John Fawcett will return as an executive producer and director. The series also stars Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Rya Kihlstedt, and Avon Jogia.

Why Is Tatiana Maslany Not in Orphan Black: Echoes?

As Fishko revealed in the same interview, there were previously plans to have Orphan Black series star Tatiana Maslany reprise her role as one of the Leda clones in Echoes' first season, but the cameo did not come to fruition. While it's unclear at this point which of the clones Maslany would have portrayed, scheduling conflicts caused by the actress starring in AMC's now-scrapped adaptation of Invitation to a Bonfire ultimately prevented it.

"Yeah, she was," Fishko revealed. "We talked about it a lot actually. We had a whole episode set aside for her in the back half of the season, but it just didn't work out in terms of schedule. Unfortunately she was shooting at exactly the same time we were shooting and we just couldn't make it work out."

"We'd still love to have Tatiana come back," Fishko added. "If we could bring one of the original sister clones back, I think that would be fun and we'd love to do it. So maybe in a second season, the stars would align in terms of scheduling. That would be really great."

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes is available to stream exclusively on AMC+.

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes came to a close on Sunday, after ten episodes that challenged fans' expectations. The series, which is set decades after the events of the BBC America series Orphan Black, largely presented a new cloning conspiracy, but with some interesting connections to its flagship show. While the first season of Echoes does include appearances from Orphan Black fan-favorites Felix Dawkins (Jordan Gavaris) and Delphine Cormier (Evelyne Brochu), and references to Leda clones like Sarah Manning and Cosima Niehaus, Tatiana Maslany does not appear in any of her many roles. But as a new interview with Orphan Black: Echoes showrunner Anna Fishko reveals, there was an attempt to bring Maslany into the fold of the spinoff. In a recent interview with TVLine, Fishko confirmed that Maslany was approached to reprise her role as one of the Leda clones in Echoes' first season, but scheduling conflicts caused by the actress starring in AMC's now-scrapped adaptation of Invitation to a Bonfire prevented her from appearing.

Glen Powell's Running Man Remake Gets Major Production Update https://comicbook.com/movies/news/glen-powell-running-man-remake-production-update-filming-start/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 02:16:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 472a6ea4-6cf4-48b4-b30a-8b83b18afd45

Edgar Wright and Glen Powell's new take on Stephen King's The Running Man is one step closer to becoming a reality. According to a new report from The Wrap, The Running Man is set to begin production in November of this year, after the film was officially greenlit by Paramount Pictures. Wright is set to direct the film, which is based on King's 1982 novel of the same name and will star Powell. This comes after Powell previously hinted to IndieWire that he would be juggling production on The Running Man with returning to finish his degree at the University of Texas, suggesting that filming would commence at some point in the fall.

"I'm not going to be sitting in a class with other students on the regular," Powell revealed. "I'm basically going to be coming back because I have to finish up, but I'm going to be shooting The Running Man in the fall. So I'm going to be in London, but I am going to be going back for proctored exams. So, they're letting me figure it out [with] distance learning. And I'm obviously going to be coming in, Zooming in for classes and whatnot, but I have to be back for the proctored exams. So, we're figuring that out for two or three times a semester, I'll come back for all my stuff. Edgar has been very nice about letting me finish my degree in the middle of his massive movie."

What Is The Running Man Remake About?

The Running Man is set in a dystopian world where contestants can enter to appear on the TV show "The Running Man" where they must elude police and authorities for an extended amount of time. If they're successful they'll take home a huge cash prize, but for a month's time they'll be hunted by men with shoot to kill orders. The story was already loosely adapted into a movie in 1987, directed by Paul Michael Glaser with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the titular role.

"It was so fun for me because I searched "Edgar Wright" in my email the other day, writing "Edgar." We've been going back and forth on script stuff, and it's so fun," Powell said elsewhere in the interview. "The world that Edgar's developed on this thing is just outrageous. It's so good. And really, we're just both such big fans of the Stephen King book, and it's going to be a great character. I'm so fired up about it. But I searched my email, and I searched Edgar Wright in my email, and it came up: I had a wish list of directors that I wanted to work with in 2008 when I moved out to LA that I sent my agent at the time -- and Edgar Wright is literally number one. I'm such an Edgar Wright man. And so, the fact that I get to work with him right now is just so damn cool."

Wednesday: Jenna Ortega Reveals What She Stole From Netflix Set https://comicbook.com/horror/news/wednesday-jenna-ortega-reveals-she-stole-from-set/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 01:25:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt bf872440-7a99-4f97-ad22-d99adc4ad351

When it comes to streaming properties, the actors on each respective show spend a significant amount of time on set. That's why it only makes sense if they happen to take something prior to the end of filming. In the long line of actors who've stolen things from the set of the show they've appeared on, you can include Jenna Ortega. In a new interview with BuzzFeed, the Wednesday star revealed she took a very specific piece of art from the of the Addams Family reimagining.

"On Wednesday, I stole a poster of the monster. There was a character who had all these sketches of the monster, so I kept one of those and put it in a nice little frame," the actress told the website. "I was actually talking about this yesterday, but the one thing I was so upset I didn't take was probably one of the Handbooks for the Recently Deceased, just because they are actual books so that when you actually go through them, there are graphics and text and stuff. The prop team killed it."

What's Wednesday Season 2 about?

Little has been unveiled about the sophomore outing for Wednesday, although Ortega admits she was initially "terrified" to return to the show.

"I was a little terrified just because it had been years since Wednesday, since we shot the first one. We did that like two or three years ago in Romania," Ortega said on the Tonight Show earlier this month. "So, I didn't really know how I... I just was, I think, overthinking it. But as soon as you put on the costumes by Colleen Atwood, you get hair and makeup done, and then you take all the expression out of your face, it's like, 'Oh, okay. I kind of, I know how to do this. Yeah. Yeah.'"

"I get to decide like how blue somebody's gonna be, or where the brains go on the floor, what prosthetics look like," she added of her new producer role. "It's so exciting. It's so much fun, actually."

Wednesday Season Two is expected to be released on Netflix at some point in 2025. The first season of the show is now available to stream on the service.

Game of Thrones Star Emilia Clarke Joins Peacock Thriller Series Ponies https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/game-of-thrones-star-emilia-clarke-peacock-thriller-series-ponies/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 01:21:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 3c9a0b94-fdb4-4672-b0ea-f20346051da4

After years of playing Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's hit Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke has officially landed her latest television gig. On Monday, it was announced that Clarke will both star in and executive produce Ponies, a new live-action espionage thriller that was just given a straight-to-series order by Peacock. This marks the latest television role landed by Clarke, after it was announced earlier this year that she will portray Mallory in Prime Video's adaptation of Image Comics' Criminal series.

Ponies is co-created by Susanna Fogel (The Flight Attendant, The Spy Who Dumped Me) and David Iserson (Mr. Robot, New Girl). Fogel serves as executive producer, director, and co-writer on the series, while Iserson serves as co-writer and showrunner.

What Is Ponies About?

Ponies is set in Moscow, 1977. Two "PONIES" ("persons of no interest" in intelligence speak) work anonymously as secretaries in the American Embassy. That is until their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR, and the pair become CIA operatives. Bea (Emilia Clarke) is an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants. Her cohort, Twila, is a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless. Together, they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place.

Executive producers on Ponies also include Jessica Rhoades (Black Mirror, Station Eleven, Dirty John), with Alison Mo Massey and Katherine Bridle serving as co-executive producers.

Will Emilia Clarke Return to the MCU?

One of Clarke's most recent television appearances was on Secret Invasion, the Marvel Studios series that premiered on Disney+ in the summer of 2023. Clarke's character, the Skrull G'iah, ended the events of the series with a massive array of other superheroes' powers, which has naturally begged the question of if and when we could see her in the franchise again. As Secret Invasion director Ali Selim argued at the time, there wouldn't necessarily be a guarantee that G'iah would reemerge in the MCU, so his priority was resolving her individual story.

"For me, the Olivia Colman/Emilia Clarke, Sonya/G'iah moment at the end, I think it does set up something really potentially interesting," Selim revealed to The Wrap. "But I think it's also a lovely resolution to the story. And if they never show up in the MCU again, I feel fulfilled."

One Ted Lasso Star May Not to Return for Season 4 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/ted-lasso-season-4-cast-phil-dunster-jamie/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 23:31:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely d07ef731-abb4-42df-93ef-522a66d9263a

Fans of Ted Lasso received a wonderful and surprising bit of news over the weekend, as it was revealed that three of the show's series regulars had their contracts picked up for a fourth installment. Since the series seemingly ended last year, there have been a ton of questions as to whether or not it would find a way to move forward, perhaps following a different story. With stars Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift now picked up for a new installment of the show, the wait begins to see if Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. Television will actually get the band back together and move forward.

That initial report indicated that the three actors whose options were picked up were all part of the UK acting union Equity, which is different than the American SAG-AFTRA. So that's why stars like Jason Sudeikis, Brendant Hunt, and Juno Temple weren't included in that first wave. Another missing name was Phil Dunster, who played fan-favorite footballer Jamie Tartt, but it appears he may not be able to star in the fourth season of Ted Lasso, should it happen.

According to Puck News' Matthew Belloni, Dunster won't be able to return to Ted Lasso as a series regular at this time, given his commitments to other shows like Surface and The Devil's Hour. Belloni suggested that he could pop up in a guest starring or recurring capacity, but that a full-time return currently seems off the table.

There's no telling what a fourth season of Ted Lasso would look like, especially since the third season delivered what felt like an ending for Sudeikis' title character and sent him back across the pond. If Ted stays in America and the show focuses on the rest of the Richmond AFC crew working through another football season, it would be even more difficult to see Jamie go.

Goldstein and Waddingham returning are great signs, though, given their prominence in the story and their prowess during awards season. Both of them won Emmys for their work on Ted Lasso, and their characters are arguably at the forefront of any story that could potentially be told at Richmond. Waddingham's Rebecca is the owner of the entire club, while Goldstein's Roy Kent took over as the team manager at the end of Season 3, following Ted's departure.

Nothing is official yet, but the new installment of Ted Lasso could start filming early next year.

Dandadan Creator Shares Their Goal for the Series' Future https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dandadan-manga-future-goal-anime/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 23:18:00 +0000 Megan Peters 0a2ee103-2d60-4f80-8fe6-f05248543ebe

Are you ready for Dandadan to become your next big obsession. This fall, the anime fandom will turn its eyes to the supernatural series all thanks to Science Saru. The team will bring Dandadan to life on screen with an anime shortly, and as its premiere comes closer, all eyes are on its manga. Yukinobu Tatsu is about to have his story reach a new audience, and in a recent interview, the creator went on to share his goals for the future of Dandadan.

The interview, which was posted in Japan to usher in the anime, poses a slew of questions to Tatsu. At one point, the artist is asked about his goals for Dandadan as the series moves forward, and it was there Tatsu admitted he wants to keep fans on their toes.

"I want to continue to add new expressions [to the series]. New things that will make people say, 'I've never seen this before' or 'That makes me laugh'," he shared.

Of course, Dandadan is very good at surprising its readers. Released in April 2021, the action rom-com has all the parts of a hit anime. From its colorful leads to its insane battles and layered lore, Dandadan has its bases covered. We have seen our heroes Momo and and Ken grow bounds since we first met them, but they still find ways to surprise fans. Their wild character arcs pair perfectly with Tatsu's detailed artwork. It would not be a stretch to say Dandadan has some of the best artwork under Shonen Jump these days, and as the manga continues, fans can expect that aesthetic to become even more impressive.

If you have not checked out Dandadan ahead of its anime's October launch, you can find the series easily enough. Tatsu's manga is available on the Shonen Jump app. So for those wanting more info on Dandadan, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Momo Ayase strikes up an unusual friendship with her school's UFO fanatic, whom she nicknames "Okarun" because he has a name that is not to be said aloud. While Momo believes in spirits, she thinks aliens are nothing but nonsense. Her new friend, meanwhile, thinks the exact opposite. To settle matters, the two set out to prove each other wrong-Momo to a UFO hotspot and Okarun to a haunted tunnel! What unfolds next is a beautiful story of young love...and oddly horny aliens and spirits?"

What do you make of Dandadan's journey so far? Let us know what you think over on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Shang-Chi 2: Simu Liu Wants Marvel Star Back for Sequel https://comicbook.com/movies/news/shang-chi-2-simu-liu-marvel-michelle-yeoh-sequel-return-request/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 23:09:00 +0000 Aaron Perine e1028e97-b672-4858-8c6d-5cda5429aa0a

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu is hoping that one familiar face from the first movie comes back for the upcoming sequel. At Fan Expo Canada, Collider attended a panel discussion with the Marvel star. During that talk, Liu talked about his hope that Michelle Yeoh could return for Shang-Chi 2. Now, we're probably years away from the MCU's return to Ta-Lo, but that's not going to stop one prospective Avenger from putting down that request early. Since Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Yeoh has claimed an Oscar, so that price tag could be steep. At any rate, it will be interesting to see what he's up against the next time he turns up in the MCU.

"When we shared our scenes together, and I had the opportunity to fight her, it was more of a dance fight. First of all, I was really nervous and, second of all, she's so petite and graceful, and I just felt like a big clumsy chunk of meat just flopping around," Liu joked. "It worked for the scene, right? She's trying to kind of teach me to find harmony with my body, and it's very Tai Chi oriented. So it's very flowy, she's kind of guiding you through, and I'm like stumbling. I didn't have to do a lot to get into character, and she's great. Just the absolute best kind of person to hang out with."

What's Up With Shang-Chi 2?

Shang-Chi 2 is a topic that Simu Liu is going to be asked about all the time until the project is formally announced. A previous stop on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon saw the Marvel actor having to address the sequel again. While he's not at liberty to divulge details, Liu would explain that Marvel is hard at work on what they're planning for the master of kung-fu. Clearly, there's something bubbling behind the scenes, but Marvel Studios is not ready to address it just yet.Fans have been theorizing that Shang-Chi 2 could probably fit between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars in the timeline.

"This is where I use all the mental gymnastics that I possibly can to answer this question," Liu told the host. "Well look, I will say this -- it's definitely happening. I should probably lead with that. People, whether it's online or in person, ask me every single day, and tell me every single day how much they enjoyed the first movie, and how much of a moment it was. And I think there's just so much goodwill, and I'm so deeply appreciative of that. So please know, if you've ever sent me a message, if you've ever asked about a sequel, or just approached, or any which way, I take it to heart and I really appreciate it. I really do. And I think I speak for myself and Destin, our returning director, when I say that we're so beyond excited to jump back in. We really are."

Wolf Man: Blumhouse Reboot Reveals First Promo Poster https://comicbook.com/horror/news/wolf-man-first-look-poster-revealed/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 22:47:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt fda82b5a-6634-4cbf-b728-a957549fc8f5

Marketing for Universal's Wolf Man movies is officially underway. Initially set to hit theaters later this year, the film has been bumped to January, allowing Universal ample time to get word out about the flick. The marketing cycle has officially started with a new standing poster at Universal Studios for Halloween Horror Nights.

The poster itself doesn't reveal much, if anything, about the movie. On it is a lone farmhouse with a wraparound porch and the poster is flanked by a small activation packed full of hay bales. See the teaser for yourself below.

At one point, Ryan Gosling was set to star in the feature when Derek Cianfrance was still attached to direct. Gosling and Cianfrance have since been replaced by Christopher Abbott and Leigh Whannel.

"I just would do anything with Derek, but the idea of doing something like that just seems really exciting," Gosling shared with Collider. "It's new for both of us, but in some way, I feel like it's kind of the movie we've made already a few times, but in literal form. We've always kind of made the metaphorical version of it, and it's sort of like the opportunity to really, to just make the literal version of what we've been hacking away at."

Whannel's The Invisible Man reboot ultimately grossed $144.5 million worldwide against a reported production budget of just $7 million on its way to a 92-percent Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Because of the successes of the film, Universal opted to pivot strategies and no longer pursue its Dark Universe, but rather a series of self-contained, standalone movies.

Wolf Man is set to hit theaters on January 17, 2025. The original Universal Monsters flick is now available to rent or buy wherever movies are rented and sold.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Nobara's Return Makes a Perfect Nod to Yuji's Own Revival https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-manga-nobara-alive-yuji-reference/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 22:46:00 +0000 Megan Peters 26d4ec94-3e51-405d-b187-39a7246eeaae

Jujutsu Kaisen knows what the fans want, and when we are lucky, the manga gives it to us straight. We are about a month out from the manga closing, so creator Gege Akutami is ramping up the series. The Shinjuku Showdown arc has a bit to do before it can end, and this week, Jujutsu Kaisen made a big move with Nobara. After years of questioning, we know what happened to the sorcerer, and her return to the manga heralded a top-tier throwback to Yuji's own revival.

The whole thing went live as Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 267 was released. It was there fans watched as Yuji kept up his fight with Sukuna, and the battle was nothing short of intense. Not only did the update reveal that Sukuna's final finger has been found, but in order to hit the curse where it hurts, Nobara is alive with her Resonance technique in full swing.

It has been years since we last saw Nobara alive, and for many fans, they were certain the heroine was dead. However, that is not true. Nobara has been hiding out in a coma until a call came for her to fight. So when Nobara returned to the manga after making us all think she was dead, well - she quoted Yuji from his own resurrection.

Before Tokyo Jujutsu High took on Kyoto way back when, it was made clear that Yuji was alive, and he revealed as much by popping out of a box. Yuji came out yelling "Oppapi" to surprise his friends much to their chagrin. So of course, Nobara does the same. When we see the girl for the first time, she tells Yuji: "How's that for oppapi, you idiot!"

Clearly, Nobara is alive as many hoped, and her first actions back were to slay. From mocking Yuji to taking a swing at Sukuna's finger, Nobara has proven once more why she is the queen of Jujutsu Kaisen.

If you want to revisit Jujutsu Kaisen ahead of its finale, you can check out the series with ease. The hit manga is available on Viz Media's Shonen Jump app. So for more info on the series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"For some strange reason, Yuji Itadori, despite his insane athleticism would rather just hang out with the Occult Club. However, her soon finds out that the occult is as real as it gets when his fellow club members are attacked! Meanwhile, the mysterious Megumi Fushiguro is tracking down a special-grade cursed object, and his search leads him to Itadori..."

Jenna Ortega Reveals She Auditioned for Denis Villeneuve's Dune https://comicbook.com/movies/news/jenna-ortega-auditioned-denis-villeneuve-dune/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 22:38:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 323a224d-04b4-4579-a928-ede04c4845b6

From The Addams Family's spinoff Wednesday to Scream to the forthcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Jenna Ortega has been associated with some pretty significant franchises. As a new BuzzFeed Puppy Interview appearance from the actress reveals, she almost counted a massive science-fiction juggernaut among that list. Ortega shared that she auditioned for a role in Denis Villeneuve's live-action Dune movies. While it isn't clear the exact role she was in contention for, she hints that it was for the role of Chani, a part that ultimately went to Zendaya.

"I auditioned for Dune when I was about fifteen," "I remember just being a big fan of that film and the franchise and everything like that, and being really excited for that interview, because Denis is one of my favorite filmmakers. I think it was Chani. I think it was Zendaya's... but they weren't saying that. Everything was very secret."

Will There Be a Dune 3?

Following the release of this year's Dune: Part Two, fans have been curious to see if and how the franchise will continue on the big screen. Villeneuve has teased that a script for the third film, Dune: Messiah, exists, and that he is focusing on telling the best possible distillation of the source material. Fans have speculated that Dune: Messiah will be released on December 18, 2026, which is currently held by Warner Bros. for an unknown movie's release date.

"I'm working on four different screenplays -- I know that Dune: Messiah will be one of them, I don't know if it will be the next or the second next," Villeneuve shared in an interview earlier this year. "My job was to try to keep the spirit of Frank Herbert alive as much as possible -- the whole meaning of Dune becomes clear with Dune: Messiah."

What Is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice About?

In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the Deetz family returns home to Winter River after Charles Deetz's unexpected death. Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened, releasing Betelgeuse.

Directed by Tim Burton, the cast of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice includes Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released exclusively in theaters on Friday, September 6th.

Netflix's One Piece Has Allegedly Found Its Bartolomeo https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-netflix-season-2-bartolomeo-actor/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 22:19:00 +0000 Megan Peters b54c26ae-52a5-4516-879c-24588c17673d

Netflix's One Piece is deep into production on season two, and as you can imagine, fans are eager to see what the show will offer with its return. We know the live-action adaptation has big plans on season two as some big story beats are coming. From Loguetown to Drum Island, Netflix's One Piece has some big places and people to introduce. So if a new report is right, it seems the anime just found its very own Bartolomeo.

Yes, that's right. We said Bartolomeo. The character may not become a major player in One Piece until Dressrosa, but if you will recall, the pirate appears in Loguetown for a hot minute.

As for this new report, the casting update comes from the One Piece Live Action channel on Discord. The community, which has successfully sussed out casting info before, put its focus on Bartolomeo this week. If the team there is right, actor Nahum Hughes will bring Bartoloemeo to life, and the discovery came courtesy of a now-deleted CV.

Of course, the team at Netflix has not given any word on this One Piece casting. We do know for sure One Piece season two will bring Loguetown to life, but beyond that, the show has kept mum on its story beats. Bartolomeo's role in the arc is pretty minimal, but fans know the arc sets up an important arc for the pirate.

After all, Bartolomeo is perhaps the biggest Luffy fan on the Grand Line. When we find the pirate in Dressrosa, Bartolomeo is obsessed with Luffy, and this adoration began in Loguetown. The green-haired pirate sees how Luffy deals with the Marines in Loguetown, and the rest is history. There is a chance Netflix could expand the pirate's role in season two as the adaptation does diverge from the original manga in its own ways. But for now, we will have to wait and see how Netflix's One Piece shakes out.

If you are eager to check out One Piece, you are in luck. Netflix not only has the live-action adaptation on lock, but it is streaming the original anime as well. So for those wanting more info on One Piece, you can read up on its official synopsis below:

"As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

Original The Crow Director Alex Proyas Trolls "Cynical Cash-Grab" Reboot https://comicbook.com/movies/news/the-crow-1994-director-alex-proyas-reboot-box-office-reviews-reaction/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 22:10:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 9c1fabd4-fbbb-4b49-83d2-df1d1a6336d4

The Crow (2024) tried to be a reboot that sparked renewed interest in the franchise - but after abysmal reviews and one of the worst box office openings of the year ($4.6 million on a $50 million budget), it's pretty clear that's not going to be the case. Now that The Crow has crashed and burned, it seems that there's no shortage of people looking to kick the franchise while it is down bad - and that list includes the director of The Crow (1994), Alex Proyas, who is once again serving as a one-man trolling campaign against the reboot.

In his latest social media posts, Proyas shared this mega-troll message with fans: "I thought the remake was a cynical cash-grab. Not much cash to grab it seems."

the-crow-1994-director-alex-proyas-trolls-reboot-opening-box-office-failure.jpg
(Photo: Miramax Films)

Besides sharing his snarky opinions, Proyas spent the opening weekend of The Crow's (2024) release sharing negative fan reactions, review videos, and posts criticizing the reboot while simultaneously celebrating Proyas' original film. One story that resonated with a lot of fans involved a Facebook post in which a fan talked about meeting another fan with an epic Crow movie arm tattoo and learning that same fan's father used to help balance his ADHD as a young man by putting on The Crow (1994), which would settle him down. That fan's father passed away, and the tattoo stands as a testament to their connection - as well as the legacy of original Crow star Brandon Lee, who lost his life while filming the movie.

The point that Alex Proyas has been trying to convey over and over again is that his version of The Crow is more than just a movie: it's an indelible marker of Brandon Lee's legacy; a milestone marker of Generation X's Gothic influences, and one of the earliest examples of how a low-budget genre film (like a comic book adaptation) could become a major franchise IP. It's that latter point that Alex Proyas has always had a problem with - as he made clear when the first trailers for The Crow reboot were released:

"I really don't get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmaker's work. And I'm certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film," Proyas shared on his Facebook page while sharing an article about the film's first trailer getting a "staggering" amount of dislikes on YouTube. "So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan's response speaks volumes. The Crow is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. That's how it should remain."

The Crow (2024) is now playing in theaters. The 1994 original is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Will Ospreay Responds to Ricochet's AEW Debut: "I'm Really Happy For Him." https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/will-ospreay-ricochet-aew-debut/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 22:05:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 1995d14d-09f4-4241-badf-64341a65a5cd

Ricochet is #AllElite. The former WWE Intercontinental Champion arrived in All Elite Wrestling this past Sunday at AEW ALL IN: London, joining the Casino Gauntlet Match as a mystery entrant. Ricochet impressed in the contest but ultimately did not factor in to the deciding pinfall, as Christian Cage pinned Kyle O'Reilly. His arrival to AEW has been a long time coming, as rumors of him joining Tony Khan's company have been rumbling as far back as May. Specifics about Ricochet's deal have been kept close to the vest, but it was noted in the initial report that he his AEW contract is for multiple years.

Will Ospreay Responds to Ricochet's AEW Debut

It didn't take long for the man who has been calling on Ricochet to join AEW to respond to his arrival.

Speaking during the AEW ALL IN: London post-show press conference, AEW International Champion Will Ospreay responded to a question about rekindling his rivalry with Ricochet, noting that AEW's new acquisition is at the back of the line.

"Man has got to work for it," Ospreay said. "There is a long list of people that he's going to have to beat before he can call out the International Champion. It's been eight years since that Best of Super Juniors match and we've both gone in our separate directions. We've both done well. Now, he's under this microscope. Maybe, just maybe, I called him out all those times to see if he's got any balls. He's shown up. I'd like to see what he's going to be doing in AEW. I'm excited and I'm really happy for him."

Those call outs began when Ospreay spoke to ComicBook in an exclusive interview back in May. When asked if he still keeps up with Ricochet's work in the years since they lit the wrestling world on fire across the independent circuit, Ospreay candidly expressed frustration at Ricochet's WWE booking and urged the high-flyer to "bet on himself."

One week later, Ricochet gave his notice to WWE, and within one month he was written off of WWE programming and moved to the alumni section of the WWE.com roster page. Ricochet laid low throughout the summer before arriving in AEW this past Sunday at AEW ALL IN: London. While it remains to be seen as to how long AEW will wait to pull the trigger on renewing the Ospreay vs. Ricochet rivalry, it is worth noting that Ricochet's televised AEW debut is against Kyle Fletcher, a longtime friend and stablemate of Ospreay's.

Ricochet makes his AEW TV debut this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, which airs at 8 PM ET on TBS.

Son Goku Joins Black Myth: Wukong With Viral Dragon Ball Mod https://comicbook.com/anime/news/black-myth-wukong-dragon-ball-goku-mod/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 21:56:00 +0000 Megan Peters aa6c035a-c63c-455d-9c10-4790409326b2

Centuries ago, Journey to the West brought the story of Wukong to life, and now the mythical hero is getting more press than ever before. Black Myth: Wukong, a new game by Game Science, is taking over the Internet thanks to its intense action and epic story. With over 10 million players onboard, the action RPG is massive, and Dragon Ball fans were quick to spread its gospel. After all, Son Goku was created in the image of Wukong decades ago, and now one gamer has found a way to bring the Saiyan into Black Myth: Wukong.

As you can see below, a simple mod is able to turn Wukong into Goku while you're playing the hit new game. The addition, which was made by NorskPL on Nexus Mods, is nothing short of genius. The mod brings overlays an adult version of Son Goku over Wukong complete with his orange outfit and bo staff. Of course, all the moves Goku performs are sourced from Black Myth: Wukong, but the fighting style fits. After all, both these characters come from the pages of Journey to the West, and this mod makes that comparison impossible to ignore.

Footage of the Dragon Ball mod has gone viral, and as you can imagine, anime fans are obsessed. Son Goku is one of the biggest figures in anime, and over the years, series creator Akira Toriyama has unpacked the hero's ties to mythology. Journey to the West was a major inspiration for Dragon Ball as a whole, and before the manga was released, early designs of Goku imagined him as an ape. That idea shift over time as the Saiyan race adapted ape-like features like tails, and of course, guys like Vegeta could turn into Great Apes at certain times.

Beyond the original Chinese folk tale, Dragon Ball has been repping Wukong for ages, but is no longer the case. Black Myth: Wukong has brought the hero to an all-new audience, and it looks great doing so. Already, plenty of gamers are calling for Black Myth: Wukong to win game of the year, and its sales have made it one of the best-selling games of 2024 easily enough.

If you want to check out Black Myth: Wukong, no sweat. The game is now available on PC as well as PlayStation 5. An Xbox release date is expected to drop as well, but we've had no words on when that release will go live.

Dragon Ball Super Artist Toyotaro Promises the Series Will Return https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-super-manga-hiatus-update/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 21:40:00 +0000 Megan Peters bf6b2329-01f4-4f23-8d9a-235fb05ddc73

It has been some months since Dragon Ball Super went on hiatus, leaving fans of the hit manga to wonder when Son Goku would return. Earlier this year, the death of series creator Akira Toriyama flipped the franchise on its head, after all. With a new anime on the horizon, all eyes are on Dragon Ball Super now as many are curious if the manga will return. And according to artist Toyotaro, the series is far from done.

Recently, the artist behind Dragon Ball Super sat down for an interview with V-Jump, and it was there Toyotaro touched upon the manga's future. The artist was asked about a recent poll where Dragon Ball fans ranked the franchise's best fights. At the end of the chat, Toyotaro promised he would do up even more battles, so he wants fans to keep up with his work moving forward.

"I won't stop there! I plan to keep on coming up with lots of exciting battles for fans to enjoy," Toyotaro explained. "I hope you all will continue following my work!"

In the interview's context, it is clear that Toyotaro is not done with Dragon Ball, so that is a sigh of relief. Dragon Ball Super went on hiatus with chapter 103, and of course, that release put an end to the manga's Super Hero arc. The chapter was posted not long after news of Toriyama's death, and after its release, Shueisha shared the manga would go on hiatus. To this day, no return date for Dragon Ball Super has been announced, but fans are hopeful Toyotaro will resume work on the series before long.

After all, Toyotaro worked closely with Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super, and the artist worked with the series creator for years. In fact, Toyotaro has been described as Toriyama's apprentice more than once, and the pair did collaborate on Dragon Ball Super's manga. As such, there are few people better suited than continuing Toriyama's vision than Toyotaro, and fans of the franchise are hopeful the artist will get the chance to revisit Son Goku soon.

If you want to brush up on Dragon Ball Super while the manga is on hiatus, no sweat. The series is available on Viz Media's Shonen Jump app. So for more info on the series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Having defeated Boo, Goku is starting to get bored with his life on Earth. His wife, Chi-chi, wants him to get a job, but all he wants to do is train and fight stronger enemies. Elsewhere in the universe, the God of Destruction, Beerus, and his attendant Whis are traveling from planet to planet in search of food and entertainment. After blowing up some hapless victims, Beerus is reminded of a man from his dreams with the moniker "Super Saiyan God," or something like that... The God of Destruction sets his sights on Earth to track down this mysterious man! Maybe this will give Goku something to do?"

Nobody 2 Director Shares First Set Photos From Sequel https://comicbook.com/movies/news/nobody-2-filming-star-first-look-unveiled/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 21:39:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt e3b2547d-ab67-4f2c-bfed-492c48ac531f

Filming on the highly-anticipated Nobody 2 has finally started, with filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto sharing the first look at the upcoming sequel. Monday, Tjahjanto took to X--the social network formerly known as Twitter--to share the first behind-the-scenes looks at the picture.

In one of the snapshots, he's seen posing with franchise producer David Leitch; in the other, he can be spotted in an elevator with Nobody star Bob Odenkirk. See the first looks for yourself below.

"Even before the first one started shooting, we would riff on it," Nobody writer Derek Kolstad previously told Empire Magazine of a sequel. "Like, 'Where can we go? What can we do?' It's a joy because I really do believe that the best idea wins, and when you are imagining when you're 11 years old, hanging out on the playground or wandering about with your buddies, playing video games and you go, 'You know what would be cool? Is if Boba Fett fought so-and-so.' That's where we are with Nobody 2."

"More importantly, everyone encouraged everyone to paint themselves in the corner and then lean on everyone else to find their way out, so that you have something where you're like, 'I don't care if anyone refers to anything I've ever written as a guilty pleasure because those are my favorite fucking movies," he continued.

Nobody was about the "nobody" Hutch (Odenkirk), an overlooked and underestimated father and husband to his wife Becca (Wonder Woman's Connie Nielsen) who took life's indignities on the chin and never rocked the boat. But when his daughter lost her beloved kittycat bracelet -- and after failing to protect his family during a robbery -- Hutch hit a boiling point no one knew he had. Flipping from regular dad to fearless fighter, the "nobody" became a somebody as he took his enemies on a wild ride of explosive revenge.

Christopher Lloyd (the Back to the Future films) and Wu-Tang Clan's RZA (The Man With the Iron Fists) co-starred.

Nobody 2 is set to hit theaters next August while Nobody is now available wherever movies are sold.

M. Night Shyamalan's Sixth Sense and Signs Coming to 4K for the First Time https://comicbook.com/movies/news/m-night-shyamalan-4k-sixth-sense-signs-movies-physical-media/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 21:32:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 0fe94ed6-129b-4818-9d26-6f26a25ecce5

Two M. Night Shyamalan classics are finally getting the 4K treatment this year. Hot on the heels of the release of his latest film, Trap, the beloved filmmaker will see a pair of the most beloved entries in his catalogue receive brand new restorations in High Dynamic Range. On Monday, Disney announced that 4K restorations for Signs and The Sixth Sense were on the way this fall, with a digital on-demand date coming a couple of months before the physical releases.

The new 4K versions of both films are being released on video on-demand (VOD) platforms on August 27th. They'll be able to be purchased individually, in addition to a new collection that also includes the 4K edition of Shyamalan's Unbreakable. The physical 4K editions of The Sixth Sense and Signs will be hitting shelves on October 22nd.

When the physical editions are made available for preorder, Signs can be found here, while The Sixth Sense can be found here.

(Photo: Disney)

Both movies were restored in HDR from their original camera negatives, and they include 5.1 Dolby audio tracks. The physical editions include a 4K UHD disc, a Blu-ray, and a digital copy.

One frustrating element, however, is that the initial press release didn't mention any sort of special features for either release. Both will surely have some element of bonus features available, but they aren't known at this time.

The Sixth Sense is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2024, having been released in 1999 and shocking audiences with its big twist that is still talked about today. Signs, another of Shyamalan's biggest hits, was released three years later, in 2002.

New From Shyamalan

Shyamalan's latest film, Trap, operates a bit differently from his other movies. While there are plenty of twists and turns throughout, the reveal of the killer's identity was made in the very first trailer, and you spend the entire movie knowing who it is.

Speaking to ComicBook ahead of the film's theatrical release this summer, Shyamalan opened up about Trap's massive change.

"The the actual interesting and wicked part of the movie is you are him," Shyamalan said of Trap's main character, as the story is told through his perspective. "That was the thing that made me want to do it. We've seen a million stories about serial killers, but to say you are him and this is what life is like for you on the day that you might get caught [is new]."

Fantastic Four's Jessica Alba Offers Advice for Vanessa Kirby Taking on Sue Storm Role https://comicbook.com/movies/news/fantastic-four-reboot-mcu-jessica-alba-vanessa-kirby-sue-storm-invisible-woman-advice/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 21:19:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw c6ab78dd-b19d-481b-9408-db1876e722c9

Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently filming in the UK, and now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of The Fantastic Four is officially a real thing, it's interesting to hear from some of the veterans of the franchise. Actress Jessica Alba starred in The Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) as Sue Storm, aka The Invisible Woman. In a new interview for her new Roku series Honest Renovations, Alba was kind enough to pass on some advice to actress Vanessa Kirby, who is the new MCU version of Sue Storm.

When asked what Kirby needs to know about stepping into the world of The Fantastic Four (and Marvel fandom), Alba had this to say:

"I think just have fun. The fans are so amazing. It was probably one of the best times of my life, going around the world and meeting all of the people that just love The Fantastic Four and love these comic books and can relate to these stories, Alba shared with Collider. "That, to me, and to be able to meet so many different people that you can touch and bring joy to them, I would say that's first and foremost for anyone who gets the honor of playing one of these awesome characters. So I'd tell her to just have fun and soak in the moments."

(Photo: Paramount & 20th Century Fox)

Tim Story's Fantastic Four movies of the 2000s are now looked at as early pioneers of the blockbuster era of superhero movies, following the release of Wesley Snipes' Blade, X-Men (2000), and the game-changing first Spider-Man (2002) movie. 20th Century Fox was hoping the Fantastic Four would be a strong enough IP to support its own franchise universe, alongside the X-Men films (the only two Marvel movie properties Fox owned). Instead, director Tim Story (Barbershop) never quite achieved the massive breakthrough success of Spider-Man or X-Men with both of his F4 films; the property sat dormant for years as Fox continued building out the X-Men movie universe, and eventually gave it a soft-reboot with X-Men: First Class in 2011. The studio tried to do the same with Fantastic Four, tapping filmmaker Josh Trank (Chronicle) to do a full-fledged reboot (Fant4stic) which crashed and burned, earning just $167 million at the box office on a budget of $120.

Even worse than the loss of profits were the embarrassing stories of the film's production. It has been rumored that Trank and Fox had major conflicts during the making of the film, with conflicting reports indicating that Trank was "erratic" on set, while others claim his original cut of the film was too dark for the Fox executives, leading to an infamous series of reshoots that changed the movie's latter half completely and resulted in a final cut that was a Frankenstein mess of mismatched ideas, tones, and style. The reboot was received so poorly that Fantastic Four has remained dormant in the decade since - despite the global domination of the Marvel Studios brand.

So, while Alba's words to Kirby are nice, her experience doing the film (which wasn't without its own casting controversy) and meeting the fans was probably a lot different than the ugly legacy Vanessa Kirby and co. have to now overcome.

Fantastic Four: First Steps has a release date of July 25, 2025.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate Roadmap Reveals DLC, Cross-Play, and More https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-splintered-fate-tmnt-roadmap-dlc-cross-play-nintendo-switch-steam/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 21:01:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 205e374e-de2a-4cea-a86e-5ec3a867c288

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate released on Nintendo Switch back in July, but it seems there are lofty plans for the game's future. Developer Super Evil Megacorp has revealed a roadmap for the game's future, which includes additional platforms, new features, and downloadable content. The roadmap stretches from the rest of 2024 through 2025, so some of these things could take time before we actually see them. However, the PC versions of Splintered Fate will be coming this year, with options on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game will also be Steam Deck verified.

The roadmap for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate can be found below.

tmnt-splintered-fate-roadmap.png
(Photo: Super Evil Megacorp)

The next update for Splintered Fate "will be going live very soon" across Nintendo Switch and Apple Arcade. That update will include some bug fixes and stability improvements, but the most notable inclusion is cross-play between the two versions! The Apple Arcade version will also be getting the improvements that have been released on Switch, such as couch co-op. Readers should note that couch co-op for the Apple Arcade version will require bluetooth controllers. Following the Steam release later this year, all versions will be getting online matchmaking.

In 2025, Splintered Fate players can expect a new Challenge Mode. Downloadable content is also in the works, and the game's first DLC will "include one of the Turtles closest allies as a playable character." That would seem to suggest Casey Jones or April O'Neil, but it's possible the developers could surprise fans by bringing in Miyamoto Usagi, who did appear in Shredder's Revenge. The DLC will also feature a new TMNT story, as well as a new chapter. However, Super Evil Megacorp notes that runs will still consist of four chapters, "so you'll have to pick your direction each run." The developers are hopeful that this DLC will lead to more content, as well.

Additional details are sparse at this time, but it's possible we could learn more about these updates very soon. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate was first announced for Nintendo Switch during one of the company's Indie World presentations, and there happens to be a new one taking place on August 27th. Perhaps we'll get some more information about the game's next update and DLC this week!

Everybody Still Hates Chris Premiere Date Announced With First Look https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/everybody-still-hates-chris-premiere-date-first-look-animated-series/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 20:55:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo eba31d33-7a75-438a-a222-2c06688ee8a4

15 years after the sitcom about Chris Rock's childhood ended its four-season run on The CW, Everybody Still Hates Chris. Comedy Central announced Monday that the adult animated series -- a revival of the Rock-narrated Everybody Hates Chris, which starred Tyler James Williams in the title role -- will premiere Wednesday, September 25th at 10pm ET/PT. Rock is executive producing and will voice "Adult Chris," who narrates the life story of his teenage self (voiced by Saturday and Fright Krewe's Tim Johnson Jr., replacing Williams) and his experience growing up as a skinny nerd in a working-class family in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, during the late 1980s.

The network also shared a first-look image, below, revealing a similar animation style to Star Trek: Lower Decks (both series are produced by CBS Eye Animation Productions and animated by Titmouse).

everybody-still-hates-chris-first-look.jpg

Original series stars Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold reprise their roles as Chris' parents. His father, Julius, is a gentle giant with a relentless work ethic, and tightwad approach to life. He grew up dirt poor, so he knows the cost of everything down to the penny. He works two jobs to support the family, and on his days off, he takes on a third job. Chris' mother, Rochelle, is smart, strong-willed, and has a nurturing spirit -- but she can also be hot-headed, especially when it comes to her kids. She tolerates zero nonsense, so she quits more jobs in a month than most people do in a lifetime.

The cast includes Ozioma Akagha (Teen Titans Go!) as Chris' feisty baby sister, Tonya, with the face of an angel and the heart of a demon, who gets along with her middle brother Drew but leaps at any chance to get Chris in trouble; Terrence Little Gardenhigh (Danger Force) voices Chris' younger brother, the golden child of the family who is the epitome of Black Excellence: handsome, athletic, a ladies man, taller and cooler than his older brother Chris; and Gunnar Sizemore (Kung Fu Panda) voices Greg, Chris's only friend at school who is girl-obsessed, status conscious and raised by a single dad.

Rock serves as executive producer via Chris Rock Enterprises with showrunner Sanjay Shah (Central Park), Everybody Hates Chris co-creator Ali LeRoi, and Michael Rotenberg (Beavis and Butt-Head) and Dave Becky (Duncanville) of 3 Arts Entertainment. Chris Prynoski (Star Trek: Lower Decks), Shannon Prynoski (Big Mouth), Antonio Canobbio (Royal Crackers), and Ben Kalina (Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart) executive produce for Titmouse, the animation studio behind Big Mouth and the Animaniacs and Beavis and Butt-Head revivals.

Everybody Still Hates Chris premieres Sept. 25th on Comedy Central and will be available to stream on Paramount+.

Ranma 1/2 Shares New Poster, Trailer Ahead of Premiere: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/ranma-12-anime-new-trailer-poster/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 20:51:00 +0000 Megan Peters 916cee92-73c2-4fab-99f7-109210189271

It has been a long time coming, but at last, Ranma 1/2 is gearing up for its return. If you did not realize, it has been more than 30 years since Rumiko Takahashi's gender-bending series came to life on the small screen. Now, the team at MAPPA Studios is set to bring Ranma 1/2 to life on Netflix this fall, and we've been given a new trailer teasing the debut.

As you can see below, the new trailer for Ranma 1/2 is out, and we have director Konosuke Uda to thank for piecing together the project. MAPPA Studios came together to give a fresh take on Takahashi's hit manga, and of course, this is far from the only revival tied to the award-winning artist. It wasn't long ago that Urusei Yatsura make its return to television, and the anime revival helped introduce the series to a new generation.

Now, Ranma 1/2 is gearing up for its big comeback, and it looks better than we could have imagined. And of course, the anime is already working out merchandising ahead of its October launch. The team at Viz Media has confirmed it has secured merchandise rights to Ranma 1/2, and some of those pieces will be appearing at Hot Topic. So if you want to show your love to Takahashi, well - why not wear it?

If you are not familiar with Ranma 1/2, the manga debuted under Shogakukan in August 1987, and it remains one of the artist's most popular titles to date. The rom-com blends hilarious hijinks with martial arts action in the best way. For those wanting more info on Ranma 1/2 ahead of its October 5 premiere, no sweat. The manga is handled by Viz Media in English, and for more info on the series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"One day, teenaged martial artist Ranma Saotome went on a training mission with his father and ended up taking a dive into some cursed springs at a legendary training ground in China. Now, every time he's splashed with cold water, he changes into a girl. His father, Genma, changes into a panda! What's a half-guy, half-girl to do."

Former The Punisher Actor Addresses Whether a Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo Was Considered https://comicbook.com/movies/news/former-the-punisher-actor-deadpool-wolverine-cameo-considered-thomas-jane/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 20:45:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson dd091153-baed-4d75-8937-12bc843c013e

Deadpool & Wolverine has easily been one of the biggest movies of this year, grossing over $1 billion at the worldwide box office and renewing a lot of hype in the Marvel Cinematic Universe along the way. In addition to continuing the madcap journey of Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson / Deadpool, the film folded in characters from a number of previous Marvel movies and television shows -- but now we know one that was not in the running. Thomas Jane, who previously portrayed Frank Castle / The Punisher in 2004's The Punisher, recently confirmed he was not approached for a Deadpool & Wolverine cameo in a new interview with The Direct.

"Nope," Jane revealed, before adding, "I like [Jon] Bernthal's Punisher. I think, you know, for me, it was always a little bit of a stretch. Frank Castle is supposed to be an Italian American. I'm not. I'm an Irish American. So for me, I had to dye the hair and sort of take on a persona, but Bernthal wears it so well, so I think they should stick with him."

Who Cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine?

Among the many Marvel cameos of Deadpool & Wolverine, the biggest standouts were Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and Dafne Keen as X-23, as well as Channing Tatum as Gambit from his never-produced Gambit solo movie. As director Shawn Levy revealed shortly after the film debuted in theaters, the biggest priority when choosing these cameos was playing off of the legacy of the larger Marvel universe.

"The vibe on set was a party. We wanted to play with this theme of 'legacy.' So, we started thinking of characters we knew who never quite got their ending," Levy revealed. "When we had all these characters together and you have X-23, and you have Blade, and you have Gambit and Electra. Everyone was so happy and grateful."

What Is Deadpool & Wolverine About?

In Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The film also stars Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, and Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, with the return of Deadpool alums Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar, and Aaron Stanford returning as Pyro from the X-Men film series.

Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D'Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey and Simon Kinberg serving as executive producers. Deadpool & Wolverine is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy. Deadpool & Wolverine was released exclusively in theaters on July 26th.

Sycho Sid, Former WrestleMania Headliner and WWF Champion, Dead at 63 https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/sycho-sid-former-wrestlemania-headliner-wwf-champion-dead-63/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 20:27:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 3c6c8d10-a5f0-48c0-b08a-0034e8e08441

The wrestling world has lost another legend. Former WWF star Sid Eudy, best known as Sycho Sid, has passed away at 63 years old after a battle with cancer. Sid is championed for his work in the World Wrestling Federation throughout the 1990s, a run that had numerous peaks including WrestleMania main events in both 1992 against Hulk Hogan and 1997 against The Undertaker. Sid captured the WWF Championship on two occasions during his tenure in the company and added accolades like the WCW World Heavyweight Championship (2) and WCW United States Championship when he competed for World Championship Wrestling.

Sid's son, Gunnar Eudy, confirmed the news of his father's passing on Facebook.

"I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years. He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed," Gunnar wrote. "We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon.Thank you for your support."

While Sycho Sid was his most famous monicker, Sid also found success under the ring names Sid Justice and Sid Vicious. He is one of a few wrestlers to have multiple reigns with WWF and WCW's top prize, sharing that rarefied air with Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Big Show, and Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

Sid was initially forced into retirement in 2001 due to a leg injury which required near daily rehabilitation. Despite being told he would never run again, Sid made a full recovery and returned to the ring in 2004. Sid went on to have sporadic matches on the independent circuit throughout the 2000s before returning to WWE in Summer 2012. In the lead up to Raw 1000, Sid was one of the many legends to take on Heath Slater on preceding episodes of WWE Monday Night Raw. Sid made quick work of Slater and reappeared on the eventual Raw 1000 itself weeks later. His final match went down in August 2017 when he defeated Paul Rosenberg at a Great North Wrestling event in Ottawa.

While he has not shown face on television in multiple years, Sid still kept up with the WWE product. His final tweets came during live broadcasts of WWE Monday Night Raw and WWE SmackDown where he expressed admiration for stars JD McDonagh and Carmelo Hayes.

Sid is survived by his wife, Sabrina Paige, and his two sons, Frank and Gunnar.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Every Confirmed Cast Member https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/sonic-the-hedgehog-3-confirmed-cast-members-keanu-reeves/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 20:16:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 9be3b9ef-1a8f-4f0a-a3bd-6440c42193f4

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to release in theaters on December 20th. When the movie arrives, it will see a mix of returning favorites from the first two films, as well as some big newcomers. For fans of the first two movies, the good news is that the vast majority of the cast will be back, from Sega favorites like Sonic and Knuckles, to human cast members like Tom and Maddie Wachowski. Ahead of the new movie's release, we've compiled a list of all the major actors confirmed to appear.

Returning Sonic Cast Members

(Photo: Comedy Central)

It wouldn't be a Sonic movie without the blue blur himself, and fans can look forward to the return of Ben Schwartz, who has been providing the character's voice since the first film. Colleen O'Shaughnessey is also back as Miles "Tails" Prower, and is also the only member of the current cast to have also voiced their character in the video games. Following his appearances in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and his self-titled Paramount+ spin-off, Idris Elba is also back as Knuckles. Rounding out the movie's heroes, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter are back as Tom and Maddie Wachowski, respectively.

It's not just the heroes that are back, however. After some speculation that he had retired, it has been confirmed that Jim Carrey will return as Doctor Ivo Robotnik. Once again, his minion Agent Stone will be played by Lee Majdoub. Other returning characters include Maddie's sister Rachel (Natasha Rothwell), as well as G.U.N. agent Randall Handel (Shemar Moore) and G.U.N.'s Commander Walters (Tom Butler).

The only major character from the first two movies that has not been confirmed is Wade Whipple, who was played in the first two films by Adam Pally. Pally was also the co-lead of the Knuckles series on Paramount+.

Keanu Reeves Plays Shadow

(Photo: Paramount / Lionsgate)

So far, a couple of new cast members have been confirmed for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The biggest of these is Keanu Reeves, who will be voicing Shadow the Hedgehog. From everything revealed thus far, Shadow's arc should be somewhat similar to what we saw in Sonic Adventure 2, the video game where Shadow made his first appearance. In that game, Shadow was created as part of a genetic experiment by Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather of Ivo Robotnik. As of this writing, Gerald has not been announced for the movie, and has not been cast. However, his granddaughter Maria Robotnik will be played by Alyla Browne.

How do you feel about the cast for Sonic the Hedgehog 3? Are you looking forward to the new movie? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Paramount to Produce Devilina Movie Based on Obscure Comics Character https://comicbook.com/comics/news/paramount-to-produce-devilina-movie-based-on-obscure-comics-character/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:56:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 4627d896-31b0-47ee-b13e-2ad508e1e6ca

Paramount Pictures is developing a feature film adaptation of Devilina, based on the Atlas Comics character from producer Steven Paul. Blacklist writer Rebecca Webb (Echo) will write the screenplay, which will be produced by Paul, SP Media Group's Scott Karol, and Jason Goodman. Goodman is the grandson of Martin Goodman, the Marvel Comics co-founder whose wife was the cousin of Stan Lee. Atlas has a diverse portfolio of characters across numerous genres.

The move comes five years after Paul, who previously produced the Ghost Rider movies for Sony and Marvel, acquired the rights to the Atlas portfolio of characters, with an eye toward creating a shared universe based on Devilina and other Atlas characters. Shortly after the purchase, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down Hollywood, seemingly delaying the start of the Atlas universe.

"From the beginning, Atlas Comics' expansive library of characters and stories was crafted as an interconnected universe. Devilina serves as the introduction, and we are dedicated to honoring this foundational vision of Atlas, ensuring that audiences can fully immerse themselves in these dynamic characters and narratives," says Paul.

"Dating back to the golden age of comics, Atlas has been home to some of the greatest comic book creators of all time," said Jon Gonda, EVP, Production, Paramount Pictures' Motion Picture Group. "There are so many characters to love and so many stories to be told."

In the comics, the last attempt to bring the Atlas characters to the page was also a shared-universe idea, with veteran writer (and now Ahoy Comics publisher) Tom Peyer writing. The 2011 series saw superheroes Grim Ghost, Phoenix and Wulf the Barbarian come together with hard-boiled cop Mike Lomax.

If you're not familiar with Atlas Comics...well, you probably don't have to be. It lasted under a year, with a focus on creating and introducing a lot of new characters (many of whom only appeared once). Martin Goodman founded the short-lived publisher in 1974.

Here's the logline, via Deadline (who first reported the deal): "Devilina follows a sheltered young woman who journeys to New York in search of her past, only to discover she is the sister of Satan, and her twin brother has been manipulating her while a detective investigates a series of murders linked to her."

Conor O'Farrell, director of development at SP Media Group, is developing the project.

DC Collects John Ostrander's Classic Suicide Squad Comics in New Omnibus https://comicbook.com/comics/news/dc-suicide-squad-comics-john-ostrander-omnibus-james-gunn-movie/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:50:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo d5d44d84-997e-4a51-8d41-ad1046e706fd

Task Force X may be expendable, but John Ostrander's Suicide Squad comics are indispensable. Decades after a version of the Col. Rick Flag-led government team debuted during DC's Silver Age in 1959, Ostrander reinvented the Suicide Squad for the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths era. Spinning out of Legends #3 -- plotted by Ostrander, written by Len Wein (Swamp Thing), and penciled by John Byrne (Superman: The Man of Steel) -- 1987's Suicide Squad comic run redefined the motley crew of incarcerated supervillains deemed disposable by ruthless program director Amanda Waller.

DC Comics will collect the first 18 issues of Ostrander and Luke McDonnell's Suicide Squad, plus the complete six-issue miniseries Legends and related issues -- including "The Secret Origin of the Suicide Squad" in Secret Origins #14 and the Ostrander-penned Doom Patrol and Suicide Squad Special -- in the Suicide Squad by John Ostrander Omnibus (releasing May 20th, 2025). The 1008-page collection retails for $125 and is available for pre-order here on Amazon.

The newly-formed Suicide Squad under Flag's command -- rogues Captain Boomerang, Enchantress, Bronze Tiger, and the assassin Deadshot -- were dispatched to eliminate Brimstone, an agent of Darkseid's, on a mission that came with the first casualty (the monstrous man-brute Blockbuster). Suicide Squad #1, titled "Trial by Blood," mined the cells of the super-powered prison of Belle Reve for the new Task Force X, adding Karin Grace, Plastique, and the ill-fated Mindboggler to the ever-changing ranks of Task Force X.

Ostrander's 66-issue run on Suicide Squad would go on to add marquee characters -- former Batgirl Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Oracle, Batman villain Poison Ivy, and the former Justice Leaguer Vixen -- alongside lesser-known anti-heroes and costumed criminals alike, including Green Arrow and Black Canary enemy Count Vertigo, Doctor Light, Ravan, The Thinker, Outlaw, Nightshade, Punch and Jewelee, Javelin, and Shade, the Changing Man.

The comic run influenced the David Ayer-directed Suicide Squad and James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. In a 2021 interview with ComicBook, Gunn credited Ostrander's Suicide Squad for inspiring "the tone and the premise" of his R-rated, death-filled DC movie.

"I do think of [The Suicide Squad] as being a sequel to John Ostrander stories from the late '80s," Gunn said. "It's a bunch of Z-grade superheroes who are thought of as disposable by the US government and put out on a suicidal missions, Black Ops operations around the world, and really just sticking to that central premise and keeping that there is what was important to me."

Discover the definitive and explosive introduction to the modern version of the Suicide Squad by comics legend John Ostrander.

When new threats emerge deemed too dangerous for the United States military, Batman, and even Superman, who is called in to answer the call of duty? Seems like a job for Task Force X, also known as the Suicide Squad. Led by the no-nonsense federal agent Amanda Waller, this band of notorious super-criminals are faced with a dilemma: accept these highly dangerous missions and stare death in the face to earn their freedom or rot forever in prison. Comics legend John Ostrander defines the Suicide Squad for the modern age in this brutal tale of war and redemption.

Doctor Who Reveals First Look at Spinoff The War Between the Land and the Sea https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/doctor-who-the-war-between-the-land-and-the-sea-spinoff-first-look/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:37:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 26409d00-80db-4f50-bfdb-9775cb853e4d

Doctor Who fans can check out the first look at the new spinoff series The War Between the Land and the Sea. The five-part series was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con by Russell T Davies during the Doctor Who panel, where we also got the cast list headlined by Russell Tovey (Years And Years, American Horror Story: NYC) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki, Surface). While eagle-eyed Whovians recognize both from previous appearances, Davies confirmed they'll be playing brand-new characters. With Doctor Who excitement at an all-time high, it's now time to see what The War Between the Land and the Sea has to offer.

The official Doctor Who website revealed a photo of the Sea Devils, who are the primary antagonist of The War Between the Land and the Sea. The amphibious reptilian humanoids made their first appearance in 1972 when they faced the Third Doctor. The Doctor Who spinoff gets its title when the Sea Devils leave the oceans and cause an international incident, causing UNIT to step in. We also got to see the full cast, which includes Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient reprising their roles in Doctor Who as UNIT's Chief Scientific Officer Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, respectively. Additional cast includes Ruth Madeley, returning in her role from the 60th Anniversary specials as UNIT Scientific Advisor Shirley-Anne Bingham; and Colin McFarlane, reprising his role as General Austin Pierce from Torchwood: Children of Earth.

"This is not Midshipman Frame teaming up with Tish Jones - which I would write actually, why not?" Davies joked. "Big Finish can do that."

Rick and Morty: The Anime Posts Episode 3 Sneak Peek https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-the-anime-posts-episode-3-sneak-peek/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:37:00 +0000 Megan Peters 55fa9492-bd49-4e95-8cad-a51be5b2789e

Rick and Morty: The Anime is here at last, and the wild series is gearing up for its next episode. Following its impressive premiere, all eyes are on Rick and Morty as its third episode is on the horizon. "Alien Elle" is around the corner, and we have been given a first look at the update thanks to its first promo.

As you can see below, the teaser for Rick and Morty: The Anime follows our stars as they face an alien invasion. The clip begins with Morty warning his grandfather of the impending attack, but as usual, Rick is barely phased. The scientist is too busy working on some experiment to bother with the aliens, but the same cannot be said for the army.

After all, the teaser moves to the alien invaders as they land on Rick's home, and things get unhinged from there. The robotic aliens are ready to attack, but Rick is not having anything to do with it. He tells the guests he doesn't have time for their shtick, so you can bet Rick has something up his sleeve to counter the aliens.

If you are not familiar with Rick and Morty: The Anime, you have time to catch up on the show. The original series comes courtesy of Studio Deen, Sola Entertainment, and Telecom Animation Film. Made for Adult Swim, the anime is a continuation of the Rick and Morty anime shorts created by Takashi Sano a few years back. This episodic anime is tucked within the original show's canon as Rick and Morty: The Anime takes place between seasons five and six. It follows alternate versions of Morty's family as they undergo all sorts of absurd journeys.

So if you want to catch up on Rick and Morty: The Anime, the hit series is streaming on Max and can be watched on Adult Swim. You can also find the original Rick and Morty animated series streaming on Adult Swim. The show has seven seasons under its belt, and an eighth season is in development.

What do you think about this Rick and Morty update? Are you tuning into the anime now that it is live? Let us know what you think over on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Gives Details on Each of the Companions https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/dragon-age-the-veilguard-companions-bioware/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:31:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 49ad02d7-4af0-4791-a96f-fcf3b61cdd5f

BioWare has provided details on each of the companions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard: Lucanis Dellamorte, Lace Harding, Neve Gallus, Emmrich Volkarin, Davrin, Taash, and Bellara Lutare. There is nothing too juicy within the new character profiles, but if you are itching to get to know each better, the information below will scratch that itch. Meanwhile, BioWare has revealed that tomorrow, August 27, there will be new screenshots for each companion.

As you may know, the game's seven companions features returning characters from previous games, characters that been introduced in extra media, and brand new characters as well. What they all have in common though is none of them have been a companion in any previous game.

Lucanis Dellamorte

Lucanis is an expert assassin for whom the Antivan Crows are a family business. He is poised & pragmatic, but he'd rather not be the center of attention. His focus is usually on his work. Lucanis specializes in executing powerful mages and has earned himself the title Demon of Vyrantium.

Abilities

  • Eviscerate
  • Abominate
  • Soothing Potion
  • Debilitate
  • Adrenaline Rush

Lucanis stylishly deals necrotic damage in battle with his dual-daggers, whilst supporting his companions with potions and buffs.

Lace Harding

This dwarven scout has a positive outlook and a ready bow - as well as unexpected magical powers. At her core, Harding is still a girl from Ferelden; she loves adventure, animals, and nature and is fiercely protective of her family and friends.

  • Seismic Shot
  • Heavy Draw
  • Shred
  • Adrenaline Rush
  • Soothing Potion

Harding's skills with the bow are unmatched - her arrows can stagger enemies and shred armor.

Neve Gallus

A cynic fighting for a better future, Neve is both a private detective and a member of Tevinter's rebellious Shadow Dragons. Born and raised in a working-class neighborhood of Minrathous, she does not believe in the superiority of mages.

  • Icebreaker
  • Blizzard
  • Glacial Pace
  • Time Slow
  • Replenish

Neve uses her talents as an ice mage to freeze and slow enemies, stopping them in their tracks.

Emmrich Volkarin

A necromancer of Nevarra's Mourn Watch, this well-meaning scholar comes complete with a skeletal assistant, Manfred. Emmrich is as serious about his duty to protect innocents from the occult as he is about his studies and his interest in the mysteries of the fade.

  • Final Rites
  • Replenish
  • Entangling Spirits
  • The Bell Tolls
  • Time Slow

Emmrich summons forth spirits of the dead to both entangle and hinder his enemies and heal his companions.

Davrin

Bold and charming, this Grey Warden has made a name for himself as a monster hunter. Though he was raised in a Dalish clan, he craved excitement and adventure. He'd rather make history than reflect on it. Now, he cares for Assan, a young griffon.

  • Battle Cry
  • Death from Above
  • Heroic Strike
  • Assan Strike
  • In War, Victory

Fiercely loyal, Davrin brings his enemies down hard with a combination of mighty attacks, teaming with Assan to keep their companions out of danger.

Bellara Lutare

Bellara is creative, romantic, and obsessed with uncovering the secrets of ancient Elvhenan. She has a strong sense of self - a clear idea of who she is and what she wants - and will push herself to her limits to find the answers she seeks.

  • Fade Bolts
  • Enfeebling Shot
  • Replenish
  • Time Slow
  • Galvanized Tear

Bellara manipulates the Fade and uses electricity and control magic to support her Companions and diminish the powers of their foes.

Taash

A Qunari dragon hunter allied with the Lords of Fortune, Taash lives for adventure and doesn't mind taking risks. While her interests include sparkling treasures and hitting things with an axe, Taash is also deeply knowledgeable about many topics.

  • Fire Breath
  • Dragon's Roar
  • Dragonfire Strike
  • Spitfire
  • Fortune's Favor

Blunt and straightforward, Taash is a mighty warrior, who wields dual-axes and breathes out flames, igniting enemies with draconic fury.

It is unclear if any more details than this will be provided on each Dragon Age: The Veilguard companion. Presumably, there will be a deep dive on each character before release as is typical with BioWare, but this remains to be seen.

Yellowstone Sequel Series The Madison Casts Lost Star Matthew Fox https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/yellowstone-sequel-series-the-madison-cast-matthew-fox/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:31:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 2052241b-e6ff-49a2-befd-627d7bcd69c1

The Yellowstone sequel series The Madison is still taking big steps forward, with the latest update being LOST star Matthew Fox joining the cast. Fox will play a character named "Paul" who is described as being a "self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors," but given Fox's past roles, there's more likely a darker (or more complex) character behind that initial description. Matthew Fox joins lead actors Michelle Pfeiffer and Patrick J. Adams (Suits), who were previously announced for the show - as well as co-stars Elle Chapman (A Man Called Otto) and Beau Garrett (The Good Doctor).

The plot of The Madison has been described as "a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana." It's been kept intentionally vague, as the original Yellowstone series still has to wrap its final stretch of episodes this fall. While there has been no official confirmation from Paramount or Yellowstone creator Tayor Sheridan, speculation and details like a working title of "2024" have pointed at the sequel series indeed being set after the events of the current series.

There has been no information given about who Michelle Pfeiffer is playing in The Madison, which could mean it's a role that (again) could have a significant connection to the ending of Yellowstone. In the case of Patrick J. Adams, we got the vague character description that he will be playing a man named Russell McIntosh, "who has followed the life path set before him from the start."

(MILD SPOILERS) The finale of Yellowstone Season 5 (Part I) aired back in November of 2022. The Dutton Family was officially coming apart at the seams, as Patriarch John Dutton III (Kevin Costner) tried to hold onto his power as Governor of Montana, even though his adopted son Jamie (Wes Bentley) schemed to supplant him in the Governor's office. Caught in the middle, John's daughter Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) tried to push her father into murdering her brother - while Jamie looked to hiring professional killers to take out his family.

However it plays out, it already seems like the Dutton Family is headed for a tragic fall of Shakespearean proportions, which could be exactly the kind of "grief" mentioned in the synopsis for The Madison - or perhaps the downfall of the Duttons has more to do with that "human connection" between the Dutton's and these new characters.

Yellowstone Season 5 - Part 2 will premiere on November 10th on Paramount Network.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Announces First Trailer Release Date https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/sonic-the-hedgehog-3-first-trailer-release-date-shadow/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:01:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps 59c7e2f9-e9c7-416d-bccb-64ceb2243b5f

After rumors began to circulate over the last few days, it has been confirmed that the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released on Tuesday, August 26th. Paramount made the announcement today via a series of images shared to the official Sonic Twitter account. These images feature images of Sega characters projected on buildings around the world, in locations like Dallas, Tokyo, Frankfurt, and New York City. Sonic and Doctor Robotnik both feature prominently, as does Shadow the Hedgehog. Fans have been wondering for months now when the trailer would be released, and it looks like the hype cycle is about to begin!

An image of Shadow's face projected in New York City can be found below.

We've long known that Shadow will have a major role to play in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and these teasers show how the character will be used in the film's promotion. Knuckles got the big push last time around, and it looks like Shadow is going to be all over the place this time! While Paramount has just begun to build hype for the new movie, Sega started things off several months ago, when it proclaimed 2024 the "Year of Shadow." Sega has spent the last few months building up the character in various ways, from a tour featuring a replica of Shadow's motorcycle, to a new LEGO set. There's even Sonic x Shadow Generations, a new video game coming out for multiple platforms on October 25th.

The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released back in 2020, and the series has become a major success story for Paramount ever since. The first two movies have raked in more than $720 million combined at the global box office. That would be impressive enough on its own, but this year also saw the Sonic Cinematic Universe expanded with a live-action Knuckles series. That show set new streaming records for Paramount+, and gave audiences a chance to learn more about how things have progressed since the previous movie. It remains to be seen whether Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be able to continue this string of successes, but we'll have a better idea when the first trailer drops!

New PlayStation State of Play Reportedly Planned for September https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/playstation-state-of-play-ps5-ps4-september-2024-report/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 18:50:00 +0000 Logan Moore cd16a236-417e-4a63-8a26-af5f07ea163c

PlayStation's next State of Play event for 2024 is reportedly set to happen in September. To this point in the year, Sony has only held two State of Play presentations. the first took place in January and featured reveals for Death Stranding 2, Stellar Blade, and Judas. The most recent State of Play broadcast, though, happened in May and included announcements of Concord and Astro Bot. Now, another such event sounds like it's set to happen soon, although details of what might be featured are still slim.

According to Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb, the next State of Play for the year is broadly being planned for September. Grubb said that based on what he currently knows, he expects the presentation to happen near the end of the month. As for what is set to be revealed at the State of Play, Grubb didn't commit to anything outright, but he said that this venue would make sense for Sony to unveil the PS5 Pro, which is said to still be on track to launch in 2024.

"Last I heard [PS5 Pro is] still coming out this year. More recently what I've heard is that there is probably going to be a State of Play - a PlayStation State of Play, not a Showcase - by the end of September," Grubb said. "It's probably going to be late next month. I don't know if the PlayStation 5 Pro is in this State of Play but where else would it be?"

Generally speaking, a State of Play in September makes sense for multiple reasons. For starters, Sony tends to always hold a State of Play in September as it has done so for five straight years. Other than this, though, PlayStation is also set to take part in the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, which will transpire at the end of this coming month. With that convention happening from September 26th to the 29th, it would be logical for PlayStation to hold a State of Play in close proximity to highlight games that it plans to show at TGS.

In the near terms, PlayStation just released Concord on PS5 and PC at the end of this past week. It will be followed by Astro Bot quite soon, which is set to hit PS5 on September 6th.

Big Little Lies Star Zoë Kravitz Is "Waiting by the Phone" for Season 3 Updates https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/big-little-lies-season-3-zoe-kravitz-reaction-update-status-hbo/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 18:47:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 70bbb371-3142-4c57-bef8-e70ce6095425

Stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman have been the most vocal figures connected to Big Little Lies about the status of Season 3, with Zo? Kravitz now confirming that she's just as in the dark about the series, though that she's excited to learn more about what would be in store for her character Bonnie. While all of the characters struggled with the events of the first two seasons, taking part in an inadvertent murder and then lying about it arguably took the biggest toll on Bonnie, as Season 2 concluded with some major implications about her character's future.

"I'm waiting to see, like everybody else, the third season that's happening ... waiting by the phone, waiting for the script to be done," Kravitz confirmed to PEOPLE, while noting that she knows "nothing" about what's to come but that she's "excited to do it."

The first season was based on the Liane Moriarty novel of the same name, chronicling a variety of interpersonal scandals unfolding in an affluent community in Northern California. The season culminated with the reveal that Alexander Skarsg?rd's Perry Wright had sexually assaulted and impregnated Shailene Woodley's Jane Chapman, with Perry also having been abusing his wife Celeste (Nicole Kidman). Jane, Celeste, Bonnie, Madeline Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon), and Renata Klein (Laura Dern) had an impromptu confrontation with Perry, resulting in his death.

The group of friends agreed to lie about the situation to claim Perry's death was an accident, as Season 2 introduced Meryl Streep's Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry. The coverup of the death weighed on Bonnie the whole season, which was amplified by her mother having health struggles, as the Season 2 finale ended with Bonnie seemingly leaving her husband to turn herself into authorities. The final moments saw Bonnie joined by all of her friends walking into the police station with her, leaving fans to speculate about what would happen to this group of friends.

When asked about what she thought could be next for her character, Kravitz teased, "Good question. I think Bonnie's divorced -- that's good for her."

One of the last updates about the project came this past June from Kidman.

"But we are [working on it] now!" Kidman teased to Vanity Fair. "We're moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book. We're in good shape."

Stay tuned for updates on a possible Season 3 of Big Little Lies.

Naruto Creator Masashi Kishimoto Is Eyeing a New Manga https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-masashi-kishimoto-new-manga-2024/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 18:42:00 +0000 Megan Peters 2276c185-95c5-4dac-82e4-7e307404b010

Since 1997, Masashi Kishimoto has been a mainstay in the manga industry. The artist has overseen a few projects during their career, but of course, the world knows Kishimoto best for his work on Naruto. The creator brought Naruto to life back in 1999, and to this day, the franchise is thriving. And even though Kishimoto is busy with the sequel to Naruto, it seems the artist is eyeing new projects.

Recently, Kishimoto clued in fans to his latest work as he appeared at a fan-event in France with Boruto artist Mikio Ikemoto. It was there the pair answered tons of questions about Naruto and their careers. When asked about his current life, Kishimoto said he is keeping his focus on two important things.

"What's important to me now is spending time with my famil. And maybe a new work," Kishimoto shared.

Of course, the announcement took fans by surprise as Kishimoto has been quiet about any future projects. Naruto took up the artist's time starting in 1999, and he is still preoccupied by the Hidden Leaf. After all, Kishimoto oversees Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex with Ikemoto. For decades now, Kishimoto has been wrapped up in the world of Naruto, but he did part with the IP back in 2019.

After all, Kishimoto launched a new manga under Weekly Shonen Jump a few years back called Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru. The sci-fi series was met with mixed reviews, and ultimately, Kishimoto brought the tale to a close in March 2020. Since then, no word has been shared about Kishimoto's future. Fans are definitely eager to see what else the artist can do now that Naruto is done. And given the rash of finales gunning for Weekly Shonen Jump, well - the magazine needs some big new series to help carry water.

If you are not familiar with Naruto, the legendary shonen series is easy to find. Viz Media's Shonen Jump app houses the original manga as well as its sequels. So for more info on Naruto, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Twelve years ago the Village Hidden in the Leaves was attacked by a fearsome threat. A nine-tailed fox spirit claimed the life of the village leader, the Hokage, and many others. Today, the village is at peace and a troublemaking kid named Naruto is struggling to graduate from Ninja Academy. His goal may be to become the next Hokage, but his true destiny will be much more complicated. The adventure begins now!"

How Did The Last of Us Online Get Cancelled by PlayStation But Concord Didn't? https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/concord-the-last-of-us-playstation-sony/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 18:39:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer f0e07984-6531-48f8-9877-fabc04b9fbc9

After eight long years of development, last week Firewalk Studios and PlayStation released first-person hero shooter, Concord. At the moment of writing this, the game is sitting at a 67 on Metacritic and virtually no one is playing it. It remains unclear what the player numbers are on PS5, but the game was instantly dead on Steam. To date, its highest peak player count was 697. To put that number into context, one of the worst games of the generation, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, posted a higher peak than this with its 758 peak concurrent players. 697 peak concurrent players for a big budget game from a PlayStation-owned studio is such a low number most of social media assumed it was a glitch in reporting at first. It's not though. It's just going that poorly for Concord.

All of this begs the question: how did PlayStation greenlight this game through various milestones all the way until release? This is a game that was made by a studio of approximately 150 developers located in Washington state. That isn't cheap overhead. Couple this with AAA production value and what you get is not just a catastrophic flop, but a very expensive catastrophic flop. Like many publishers though, PlayStation is well known for killing projects in the middle of development, so how did this slip past the goalie? In what world does Concord release, but PlayStation cancels The Last of Us multiplayer, a game that it had already announced publicly, a game that was no doubt more expensive to make, and a game that the market actually was anticipating? It doesn't really make much sense, and makes you wonder what is going on at PlayStation.

Who Dropped the Ball With Concord?

The moment Concord was revealed, the Internet knew the PS5 and PC game was going to flop. The dislike bar shows this, all the comments on trailer say as much, and its just obvious looking at the game. It is clear hard work went into Concord, but the ideas this work was built on are flawed. As a hero shooter, the game is years late to a trend the market has been tired of for years. As an online competitive multiplayer game, built with live service in mind, it is competing against some of the biggest and best games the industry has ever produced. Literal juggernauts of the industry even established IP is finding difficult to dislodge. And then there is the writing. Thanks to Marvel and the endless amounts of entertainment it has inspired, banter-fueled goofy writing is incredibly risky when trying to make a first impression. It's a writing style that has been exhausted, and in the reveal trailer and promotional material for the game, it quadruples down on this style. And it doesn't even do it well. Making matters worse, the character design is rudimentary and uninspired. A hero shooter, at the bare minimum, has to have cool heroes. Concord's roster looks like the student project version of Overwatch. The characters range from trite to cringe. Surely all of this raised a red flag.

On one hand, it seems like everyone at PlayStation missed blatant red flags, yet the game's marketing actually suggests it was aware it had a dud on its hands. Only two months separated the reveal and the release of Concord. Two months doesn't scream confidence in a product. It screams doubt. If PlayStation was confident in the product, wouldn't it have had a longer marketing run complete with more opportunity to show the game off? Marketers across the industry have been shrinking the time between reveal and release, but nothing like this. A two month window between reveal and release suggests PlayStation wanted this failed experiment to be over with.

Concord vs The Last of Us Online

Concord was in development for eight years. It wasn't announced until 2023 though, a year before its eventual reveal. This means that PlayStation had ample opportunity to can the project before the public even knew about it. Meanwhile, The Last of Us Online was already announced, and had years of anticipation behind it. In addition to this, it no doubt had a couple hundred million in investment already. In fact, it probably cost more than Concord, despite never making it as far in development. It was also attached to one of PlayStation's biggest and most important IPs, and could have provided some synergy with the HBO show. It was probably a much higher quality game as well, unlikely to ever flop. Yet deep into development it was canned by PlayStation.

At the time, it was reported PlayStation-owned Bungie aided in this decision as some type of internal expert on multiplayer and live service games. There is a whole list of separate problems with this, but does this mean Concord also got the greenlight from Bungie, in addition to PlayStation? If so, that is even more perplexing.

For what it is worth, Concord and PlayStation are not the only victims of this growing disconnect between consumers, developers, and executives. It doesn't take an expert to see Concord, hear its pitch, and send the team back to the drawing board . And there are many other examples of this. With Concord and The Last of Us Online, it's increasingly obvious that things are a little all over the place at PlayStation as they try and realize this live service initiative they've undertaken.

Ernest P. Worrell Goes to Comics For His First Adventure Since 1998 https://comicbook.com/comics/news/ernest-p-worrell-goes-to-comics-for-his-first-adventure-since-1998/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 18:24:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 3b537554-2622-4a2a-a847-e72008dc28a6

Writer Corey Perkins will team with illustrator M Arief Russanto and colorist Mariam Yasser to bring the character of Ernest P. Worrell back to life with Ernest & the Dream Stone, a new, spooky comedy story being crowdfunded starting next month. The book, a trailer for which you can see below, has been in development for a couple of years, and is being developed with the franchise's rightsholders. The late actor Jim Varney, who played Ernest onscreen, obviously can't endorse the project, but his biographer and cousin appears in the trailer to say it was the kind of thing Varney would have loved.

"If you're an Ernest fan, rest assured over the last couple of years we poured over the script making the story as strong, on brand, and Ernest-y as possible," Perkins wrote on the project's Facebook page. "Even the dialogue reads so that you can hear Ernest's voice on the page!"

Ernest was originally created as a regional pitchman -- but with a twist. Rather than being the mascot for a single company, the character -- played by Varney, and created by Varney and an ad executive named John Cherry. When his Nashville-based ads started to become a sensation -- something Hats Off Entertainment calls "the original viral star" -- Ernest went on to become a bona fide movie star and pop culture phenomenon. After having done hundreds of commercials as Ernest, Varney appeared in a series of shorts, followed by nine -- yes, nine! -- feature films.

He made his non-commercial debut in a Saturday morning sketch comedy series, Hey Vern, It's Ernest!, for which Varney earned a Daytime Emmy Award. The movies started in 1987 with Ernest Goes to Camp. The movie, which starred Varney alongside a cast of mostly-unknowns that included future Supernatural standout Richard Speight Jr. and beloved character actors Iron Eyes Cody and John Vernon. The movie, made for a reported budget of $3.5 million, made $23.5 million at the domestic box office and became a staple of the video rental market, where it would continue to make a profit for years to come.

That movie, and the next four, all went to theaters. By 1993, the box office draw of Ernest had started to wane, but he still connected with audiences at video stores around the country. While the movies rarely connected with critics, audiences -- epsecially kids -- loved Ernest. That, combined with how cheap the movies were to make, made Ernest one of the safest franchises in Hollywood.

The Kickstarter campaign for Ernest & the Dream Stone will run from September 17th until October 17th, ending just in time for spooky season. You can sign up for notifications here.

Lies of P Sequel May Feature Open-World Elements https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/lies-of-p-2-sequel-open-world-tease/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 18:15:00 +0000 Logan Moore 793c4be0-5544-4c01-86b1-e924f20db6bd

It looks like the upcoming sequel to Lies of P from Neowiz is set to feature open-world elements. A little more than a month after its launch in 2023, Lies of P director Ji Won Choi confirmed that a sequel to the action Soulslike title was in the works. Given that Lies of P itself isn't even one year old yet, it's likely that this follow-up entry won't see the light of day for a few more years. Whenever it does come about, though, we now seem to have a better idea of what to expect.

In a new job listing for a Field Level Designer at Neowiz, the developer specified that it's looking for candidates who have experience with open-world games. Not only are potential hires asked to have played a wide variety of open-world titles, but it's preferred that candidates also have a history in developing titles like this. Elsewhere in the listing, it was specifically mentioned that this role is tied to Lies of P 2, or whatever the official name of this sequel will end up becoming.

**Spoilers for the end of Lies of P are mentioned beyond this point.**

For those who finished Lies of P, it seems pretty clear where Neowiz is trying to take the series next. In the game's final cutscene, the character Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz is briefly mentioned. While it's not known exactly how the world of Lies of P, which is rooted in the lore of Pinnochio, will end up clashing with Oz, it's clear that this locale is likely where the sequel will be set. To that end, Neowiz seems interested in making Oz an area players can traverse at their own free will. Whether or not this will be a good direction for the series remains to be seen, but it definitely suggests that the sequel will be quite a departure from the first entry.

How would you feel about Lies of P 2 becoming more of an open-world game compared to its predecessor? And what else are you hoping to see Neowiz expand upon in the sequel? Share your own thoughts with me over on social media at @MooreMan12.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Fans Are Ready to Be Disappointed by New Nintendo Direct https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/hollow-knight-silksong-nintendo-direct-august-2024/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 17:22:00 +0000 Logan Moore ba4714ed-2e25-4c6c-8ba9-b6eb0e253a54

Fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong are already preparing to be disappointed by Nintendo's next Direct. Earlier this morning, Nintendo revealed that it would be holding a new Nintendo Partner Direct and Indie World showcase tomorrow on August 27th. Naturally, this announcement led many to begin hypothesizing about whether Silksong could show up during the event. And while one would think that hopes would be high for a re-emergence of Silksong, it seems that fans are instead starting to feel like the Metroidvania title will never see the light of day.

On the official Hollow Knight: Silksong subreddit, news of this new Nintendo Direct quickly became a topic of conversation. While some were willing to get excited about a new potential showing for Silksong, most users on the subreddit said that they're past the point of getting their hopes up when it comes to Directs being a venue for news on the long-awaited game.

"The news will come from Team Cherry themselves, there's zero events that will have Silksong," said u/DubbtTM on Reddit. "I know it's a broken record at this point but so are people fake hyping sh**, so I'm gonna say it."

"I already lost hope a long time ago," added u/Randomguyontheapp. "Everyone here is insane, someone please help them."

Generally speaking, there might be a better chance than normal that Hollow Knight: Silksong makes an appearance during tomorrow's Nintendo Direct. Not only does Team Cherry qualify as a Nintendo "partner", which simply means a third-party developer, but Silksong itself is also an indie title. As a result, there's a chance that Silksong could appear in either the Direct or Indie World portion of the showcase, which would make numerous fans around the globe happy.

If Hollow Knight: Silksong does happen to show up this week, it's likely that we will learn more about the game's eventual launch. Currently, Team Cherry hasn't committed to a launch window of any sort for Silksong, although it is known that the Hollow Knight sequel is bound for Nintendo Switch in addition to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Previous leaks from earlier in 2024 suggested that a release date for Silksong might be imminent, but only time will tell if this was accurate.

How do you say "super-sized" in French? AMC Networks announced that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol, the upcoming second season of the France-set Walking Dead spinoff starring Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, will premiere as part of a super-sized event on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, Sept. 29th from 8pm ET/PT to 10pm ET/PT. AMC+ subscribers will also have exclusive access to The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon at San Diego Comic-Con special -- featuring this year's Comic-Con panel with Reedus and McBride, where the network announced a season 3 renewal set and shot in Spain -- starting on Sept. 22nd.

Additionally, Genet's movement builds momentum, setting the Pouvoir on a violent collision course with the Union of Hope in the fight for France's future.

Along with series regulars Reedus and McBride, the new season stars Cl?mence Po?sy (Isabelle), Louis Puech Scigliuzzi (Laurent), Laika Blanc Francard (Sylvie), Anne Charrier (Madame Genet), Romain Levi (Codron), Eriq Ebouaney (Fallou), and Manish Dayal (Ash).

"We are so proud of these shows and incredibly grateful for the way this new chapter in The Walking Dead Universe has been embraced by the fans," said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment, AMC Studios for AMC Networks. "Sending Daryl, and then Carol, to France was such an inspired and visually striking move for this franchise, a chance to do something truly different. We can't wait to continue the travels of this iconic duo with a third season produced and set in Spain, another beautiful country with a passionate TWD fanbase that is already buzzing with anticipation."

Rikishi Blasts WWE's Jey Uso Booking, Suggests Defection to AEW https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/rikishi-blasts-wwe-jey-uso-booking-suggests-defection-aew/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 16:26:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 5c0027a9-a841-4805-86fe-af9a9efe3392

Jey Uso has cemented himself as a bonafide singles star. The Yeet Man's rise really came into form in late 2023 after he officially left The Bloodline and joined the WWE Monday Night Raw roster. Jey began to showcase his own babyface personality, one that quickly became infectious with the WWE audience, and it has resulted in him receiving some of the loudest reactions on weekly television and monthly premium live events. The former multi-time tag champion saw singles momentum around April when he defeated brother Jimmy Uso at WWE WrestleMania 40 and became the No.1 Contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship the next night.

Despite the raucous reaction from the French crowd at WWE Backlash, Jey lost that title match to then-champion Damian Priest. Since then, Jey has only had one premium live event match, as he competed for the Men's Money in the Bank briefcase at WWE Money in the Bank in July. Drew McIntyre went on to win that match and fail his cash in attempt just one hour later.

Rikishi Blasts WWE's Jey Uso Booking

Papa Uso is not happy with his son's current direction in WWE.

Speaking on Off The Top Rope, WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi put WWE on blast for how the company has booked Jey Uso, pointing out that his crowd response and merchandise numbers do not align with his position on the card.

"I want to know what this kid has to do. He's probably the hottest intro when he's coming out. You talk about fan engagement, we all see it," Rikishi said. "Yet, when it comes time to give this kid his flowers and 'let's do business,' why wasn't my son handled with Money in the Bank? Where is the guy who won Money in the Bank? What is he doing now? What business sense does that make for a company that let the most exciting guy, a guy that is not a liability, a guy that shows up and shows out, a guy who does his job, what does it hurt this company to even give this kid a shot?"

Rikishi then suggested that WWE factors Jey into either the WWE Intercontinental Title or the WWE World Heavyweight Championship storylines, but thus far neither have come to fruition.

"I'm at this point where I want to call my son, 'Go ahead and take a break. Obviously, the writers don't know where to put you,'" Rikishi continued. "Definitely, WWE is making money off The Yeet Man. The Yeet Man is making money himself. The only difference is, The Yeet Man is working for his money. You see it every week. Why aren't you lighting this kid up and letting him do his thing? Let's hope WWE gets it together and does the right thing."

If things don't turn around for Jey, Rikishi suggested that his son explore his other options, specifically suggesting AEW as a future landing spot.

"The kid is so good, and WWE ain't the only spot. He could probably go to AEW if he wants to write his own ticket, maybe more than what WWE is making on him," Rikishi suggested. "Hopefully, they turn it around and do the right thing by The Yeet Man."

Universal Orlando Resort Bringing Harry Potter's Death Eaters Back for Halloween https://comicbook.com/horror/news/harry-potter-death-eaters-universal-studios-orlando-diagon-alley/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 15:47:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh da30f7f1-afc7-4fee-b378-92ebe2421bc2

The Harry Potter franchise offered audiences a number of sinister threats, with the nefarious Death Eaters being some of the most intimidating. Fans who head to Universal Orlando Resort this fall might come face to face with the ominous characters, as they'll be appearing in Diagon Alley in conjunction with the park hosting Halloween Horror Nights. Whether you're hoping to check them out for yourself, or avoid them at all costs, they will be spending their time in Knockturn Alley. The Death Eaters will be appearing select night between August 29th and November 3rd, which is also when Halloween Horror Nights will be happening at the park.

Per press release, "The Darker side of magic is back at Universal Orlando Resort this fall as the infamous Death Eaters return to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida on select dates August 29th through November 3rd. This interactive live entertainment experience brings guests face to face with Lord Voldemort's most loyal supporters, the ominous Death Eaters, as they lurk through London and into the shadowed streets of Knockturn Alley. These fanatic witches and wizards do not shy away from the practice of the Dark Arts and will challenge guests to join the Dark Lord alongside them. Fans can also visit Borgin and Burkes in Diagon Alley to shop for Dark Arts-themed merchandise like t-shirts, accessories, and Death Eater masks -- or check out the selection of Death Eater wands at Ollivanders."

The Death Eaters made their debut at the park last year and made enough of an impact and garnered enough attention that they have return for another year.

Like in previous years, the park also has five Scare Zones, as well as all-new performances, merchandise, and food offerings throughout the park.

Halloween Horror Nights runs at Universal Orlando Resort August 29th through November 3rd.

Quentin Tarantino Refutes Rumors About Scrapped Film The Movie Critic https://comicbook.com/movies/news/quentin-tarantino-the-movie-critic-cast-rumors-dead-alive/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 15:44:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw b9ac81a9-ed39-4dff-b9fe-52bfed3d1999

Quentin Tarantino is setting the record straight about his supposed final film, The Movie Critic. Tarantino made a return appearance on Bill Maher's Club Random podcast, where the pair talked extensively about Tarantino's long-spanning career, and where it could be headed next. Naturally, the supposed final destination of Tarantino's directorial career will be The Movie Critic, a meta-minded film about a film critic working at a less-than-reputable publication.

Back in April, reports started coming out that The Movie Critic would not be Tarantino's final film. This about-face turn came after months of hearing that The Movie Critic would be casting the likes of Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in major roles - and that it could be the Tarantino Universe Avengers, bringing back actors and/or characters from other Tarantino films for surprise appearances.

(Photo: Miramax)

However, during the Club Random discussion, Tarantino refuted the idea that anything we've heard reported online is valid in any way:

"If you're Joe Schlomoka, and you're some sort of transient celebrity reporter of some kind, if you hear 'Quentin is going to make a Star Trek movie,' or 'Quentin is going to do a movie called The Movie Critic' or Quentin is going to do any f*cking thing, it's a little bit like when that guy wrote that Howard Hughes biography that ended up being a hoax... The thing is, they can say anything: 'Oh Quentin is going to cast Tom Cruise - it's for sure! Quentin is going to cast Tom Cruise as the movie critic!'

Tarantino did not confirm any of the reports that The Movie Critic is dead; he didn't confirm that any of the reported progress on the film (including casting) was valid, either. In fact, Tarantino went so far as to say one of the casting rumors was more of a statement about fan psychology, than an actual scoop:

"The thing that's kind of funny about The Movie Critic was they started saying I was going to cast that actor, Paul Walter Hauser... But what's funny about it is I think they just think he looks like a critic, so that's why they picked [him]," Tarantino explained with a laugh. "But my point being, though, is they write it in, you know, 'Showbiz Daily' or something, and then that gets picked up in 140 [other] pieces."

Indeed, that's a fair assessment of how modern entertainment "journalism" (read: blogs and influencers) works. Even our own ComicBook archives are filled with the same reports about The Movie Critic that Tarantino is mocking. The filmmaker was willing to concede that the rumor mill would probably stop churning if he ever decided to address the misinformation - but he won't:

"Because I'm not shutting that down - because I'm not all connected - then that's just reported as if it's true: and it is true for a couple of weeks, because no one knows anything better, because I'm not filling them in.

That all said, Tarantino sees Internet rumors (true or not) to be a helpful promotional tool (at best), and/or a great way to keep a celebrity's ego inflated:

"It's not a bad thing! Actually, the egomaniac in me thinks that the idea that 142 articles can be printed about just speculation of what I'm going to do, I appreciate that a lot, and that means I'm in a good place. The egomaniac Elvis guy part of me goes 'Yeah, right on!'"

At this point, the true status of Quentin Tarantino's The Movie Critic is still unknown.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Is Its Lowest Price Ever in New Sale https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/resident-evil-4-remake-pc-steam-sale/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 15:41:00 +0000 Tyler Fischer 00c3ecf8-13c5-4148-be67-0b49bc8b0fcf

Resident Evil 4 Remake is the lowest price it has even been thanks to a new sale. Unfortunately, the sale is limited to PC, which means those on PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X are set to miss out. Steam users on PC looking to buy and play the Capcom survival-horror game though are about to save serious money on it.

Right now, for a limited time -- for 47 more hours at the moment of writing this or as supplies last -- Fanatical, an authorized third-party seller of Steam codes has Resident Evil 4 Remake for just $26.39, which is cheaper than it has been previously on any digital storefront or at any physical retailer. And given that the game is only about a year old, this is a great price for one of the best and most popular 2023 releases. It will no doubt get cheaper over time, but it may take a while before it dips below $25.

Below, you can read more about the game and check out a trailer for it as well:

"Survival is just the beginning," reads an official blurb about the game. "Six years have passed since the biological disaster in Raccoon City. Agent Leon S. Kennedy, one of the survivors of the incident, has been sent to rescue the president's kidnapped daughter. He tracks her to a secluded European village, where there is something terribly wrong with the locals. And the curtain rises on this story of daring rescue and grueling horror where life and death, terror and catharsis intersect. Featuring modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics, Resident Evil 4 marks the rebirth of an industry juggernaut. Relive the nightmare that revolutionized survival horror."

"Even if there's a part or two in the remake that could've been handled better, replayability is a core part of a Resident Evil game's success, and Resident Evil 4 is no exception," reads a snippet from our official review of the remake. "It should be a promising sign then that as soon as credits rolled, the next logical step was to look through the new challenges at hand and plan out the next playthrough. Costumes, new weapons, and challenges both self-imposed and presented by the game are incentives that bolster Resident Evil's arcade-y feel and give the player an excuse for another run, but even if they were absent, the Resident Evil 4 remake offers enough to justify countless runs once more."

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Gameplay Trailer Revealed https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/call-of-duty-black-ops-6-multiplayer-trailer/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 15:33:00 +0000 Logan Moore c48b2dae-fd98-4372-81fc-755b40275230

The debut trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's multiplayer mode has been released. With the Black Ops 6 beta set to begin its first of two beta phases this coming weekend, Treyarch and Activision are finally ready to show off what the multiplayer component of the shooter will have in store. And for those that predominantly play multiplayer in each new Call of Duty entry, it looks like Black Ops 6 could be a return to form in a major way.

Clocking in at around two minutes in length, this new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 trailer is chaotic, to say the least. The video doesn't only highlight the fast-paced gameplay that will be seen with BO6, but it also shows off many of the different maps that will be found in the multiplayer suite. Killstreaks, omnimovement, new weapons, and numerous other features that are new to Black Ops 6 also make an appearance and give fans a taste of what's to come.

As mentioned, the first Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta will take place from August 30th through September 4th for those who have pre-ordered the game. The open beta will then transpire the following weekend for everyone from September 6th through 9th. This will precede the launch of Black Ops 6 itself, which will drop on October 25th for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.

You can find today's new Black Ops 6 trailer alongside the game's official synopsis below.

"Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.

The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.

In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.

Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies."
