When it comes to streaming properties, the actors on each respective show spend a significant amount of time on set. That's why it only makes sense if they happen to take something prior to the end of filming. In the long line of actors who've stolen things from the set of the show they've appeared on, you can include Jenna Ortega. In a new interview with BuzzFeed, the Wednesday star revealed she took a very specific piece of art from the of the Addams Family reimagining.
"On Wednesday, I stole a poster of the monster. There was a character who had all these sketches of the monster, so I kept one of those and put it in a nice little frame," the actress told the website. "I was actually talking about this yesterday, but the one thing I was so upset I didn't take was probably one of the Handbooks for the Recently Deceased, just because they are actual books so that when you actually go through them, there are graphics and text and stuff. The prop team killed it."
Little has been unveiled about the sophomore outing for Wednesday, although Ortega admits she was initially "terrified" to return to the show.
"I was a little terrified just because it had been years since Wednesday, since we shot the first one. We did that like two or three years ago in Romania," Ortega said on the Tonight Show earlier this month. "So, I didn't really know how I... I just was, I think, overthinking it. But as soon as you put on the costumes by Colleen Atwood, you get hair and makeup done, and then you take all the expression out of your face, it's like, 'Oh, okay. I kind of, I know how to do this. Yeah. Yeah.'"
"I get to decide like how blue somebody's gonna be, or where the brains go on the floor, what prosthetics look like," she added of her new producer role. "It's so exciting. It's so much fun, actually."
Wednesday Season Two is expected to be released on Netflix at some point in 2025. The first season of the show is now available to stream on the service.

Marketing for Universal's Wolf Man movies is officially underway. Initially set to hit theaters later this year, the film has been bumped to January, allowing Universal ample time to get word out about the flick. The marketing cycle has officially started with a new standing poster at Universal Studios for Halloween Horror Nights.
The poster itself doesn't reveal much, if anything, about the movie. On it is a lone farmhouse with a wraparound porch and the poster is flanked by a small activation packed full of hay bales. See the teaser for yourself below.

At one point, Ryan Gosling was set to star in the feature when Derek Cianfrance was still attached to direct. Gosling and Cianfrance have since been replaced by Christopher Abbott and Leigh Whannel.
"I just would do anything with Derek, but the idea of doing something like that just seems really exciting," Gosling shared with Collider. "It's new for both of us, but in some way, I feel like it's kind of the movie we've made already a few times, but in literal form. We've always kind of made the metaphorical version of it, and it's sort of like the opportunity to really, to just make the literal version of what we've been hacking away at."
Whannel's The Invisible Man reboot ultimately grossed $144.5 million worldwide against a reported production budget of just $7 million on its way to a 92-percent Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Because of the successes of the film, Universal opted to pivot strategies and no longer pursue its Dark Universe, but rather a series of self-contained, standalone movies.
Wolf Man is set to hit theaters on January 17, 2025. The original Universal Monsters flick is now available to rent or buy wherever movies are rented and sold.
]]>The Crow (2024) tried to be a reboot that sparked renewed interest in the franchise - but after abysmal reviews and one of the worst box office openings of the year ($4.6 million on a $50 million budget), it's pretty clear that's not going to be the case. Now that The Crow has crashed and burned, it seems that there's no shortage of people looking to kick the franchise while it is down bad - and that list includes the director of The Crow (1994), Alex Proyas, who is once again serving as a one-man trolling campaign against the reboot.
In his latest social media posts, Proyas shared this mega-troll message with fans: "I thought the remake was a cynical cash-grab. Not much cash to grab it seems."
Besides sharing his snarky opinions, Proyas spent the opening weekend of The Crow's (2024) release sharing negative fan reactions, review videos, and posts criticizing the reboot while simultaneously celebrating Proyas' original film. One story that resonated with a lot of fans involved a Facebook post in which a fan talked about meeting another fan with an epic Crow movie arm tattoo and learning that same fan's father used to help balance his ADHD as a young man by putting on The Crow (1994), which would settle him down. That fan's father passed away, and the tattoo stands as a testament to their connection - as well as the legacy of original Crow star Brandon Lee, who lost his life while filming the movie.
The point that Alex Proyas has been trying to convey over and over again is that his version of The Crow is more than just a movie: it's an indelible marker of Brandon Lee's legacy; a milestone marker of Generation X's Gothic influences, and one of the earliest examples of how a low-budget genre film (like a comic book adaptation) could become a major franchise IP. It's that latter point that Alex Proyas has always had a problem with - as he made clear when the first trailers for The Crow reboot were released:
"I really don't get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmaker's work. And I'm certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film," Proyas shared on his Facebook page while sharing an article about the film's first trailer getting a "staggering" amount of dislikes on YouTube. "So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan's response speaks volumes. The Crow is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. That's how it should remain."
The Crow (2024) is now playing in theaters. The 1994 original is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
]]>Two M. Night Shyamalan classics are finally getting the 4K treatment this year. Hot on the heels of the release of his latest film, Trap, the beloved filmmaker will see a pair of the most beloved entries in his catalogue receive brand new restorations in High Dynamic Range. On Monday, Disney announced that 4K restorations for Signs and The Sixth Sense were on the way this fall, with a digital on-demand date coming a couple of months before the physical releases.
The new 4K versions of both films are being released on video on-demand (VOD) platforms on August 27th. They'll be able to be purchased individually, in addition to a new collection that also includes the 4K edition of Shyamalan's Unbreakable. The physical 4K editions of The Sixth Sense and Signs will be hitting shelves on October 22nd.
When the physical editions are made available for preorder, Signs can be found here, while The Sixth Sense can be found here.
Both movies were restored in HDR from their original camera negatives, and they include 5.1 Dolby audio tracks. The physical editions include a 4K UHD disc, a Blu-ray, and a digital copy.
One frustrating element, however, is that the initial press release didn't mention any sort of special features for either release. Both will surely have some element of bonus features available, but they aren't known at this time.
The Sixth Sense is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2024, having been released in 1999 and shocking audiences with its big twist that is still talked about today. Signs, another of Shyamalan's biggest hits, was released three years later, in 2002.
Shyamalan's latest film, Trap, operates a bit differently from his other movies. While there are plenty of twists and turns throughout, the reveal of the killer's identity was made in the very first trailer, and you spend the entire movie knowing who it is.
Speaking to ComicBook ahead of the film's theatrical release this summer, Shyamalan opened up about Trap's massive change.
"The the actual interesting and wicked part of the movie is you are him," Shyamalan said of Trap's main character, as the story is told through his perspective. "That was the thing that made me want to do it. We've seen a million stories about serial killers, but to say you are him and this is what life is like for you on the day that you might get caught [is new]."

Resident Evil 4 Remake is the lowest price it has even been thanks to a new sale. Unfortunately, the sale is limited to PC, which means those on PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X are set to miss out. Steam users on PC looking to buy and play the Capcom survival-horror game though are about to save serious money on it.
Right now, for a limited time -- for 47 more hours at the moment of writing this or as supplies last -- Fanatical, an authorized third-party seller of Steam codes has Resident Evil 4 Remake for just $26.39, which is cheaper than it has been previously on any digital storefront or at any physical retailer. And given that the game is only about a year old, this is a great price for one of the best and most popular 2023 releases. It will no doubt get cheaper over time, but it may take a while before it dips below $25.
Below, you can read more about the game and check out a trailer for it as well:
"Survival is just the beginning," reads an official blurb about the game. "Six years have passed since the biological disaster in Raccoon City. Agent Leon S. Kennedy, one of the survivors of the incident, has been sent to rescue the president's kidnapped daughter. He tracks her to a secluded European village, where there is something terribly wrong with the locals. And the curtain rises on this story of daring rescue and grueling horror where life and death, terror and catharsis intersect. Featuring modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics, Resident Evil 4 marks the rebirth of an industry juggernaut. Relive the nightmare that revolutionized survival horror."
"Even if there's a part or two in the remake that could've been handled better, replayability is a core part of a Resident Evil game's success, and Resident Evil 4 is no exception," reads a snippet from our official review of the remake. "It should be a promising sign then that as soon as credits rolled, the next logical step was to look through the new challenges at hand and plan out the next playthrough. Costumes, new weapons, and challenges both self-imposed and presented by the game are incentives that bolster Resident Evil's arcade-y feel and give the player an excuse for another run, but even if they were absent, the Resident Evil 4 remake offers enough to justify countless runs once more."

Reebok Alien: Romulus Sneakers
)Alien: Romulus is being billed as more of a spinoff rather than a direct continuation of the Alien franchise and will see a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. Director Fede ?lvarez has previously opened up about how a deleted scene from James Cameron's Aliens featuring young colonists inspired Romulus' story.
"My first instinct, just to try something different that hasn't been seen before, was to approach it form the angle of characters who are not professionals or scientists; they're not even adults," he said. "I liked this concept of putting people in the front seat of the story who are closer to what the audience is -- not that the audience is young, more that the audience is completely virgin to the realities of space. When the characters are professionals, they know more than you do. But when they're still in their early 20s, they don't know how to operate the f-cking airlock."
He continued, "All their parents probably worked on the same ship when they were kids, and that's how they got to know each other ... There's a lot of history between them because they're the only family they have. They truly act more like surrogate siblings; some of them even lived under the same roof. A lot of the big themes of the movie are about siblinghood and what does that mean? The Romulus of it all, and the bigger plot with Weyland-Yutani, is actually connected to that as well."
Alien: Romulus stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie's Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), Aileen Wu. Fede ?lvarez (Evil Dead, Don't Breathe) directs from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (Don't Breathe 2) based on characters created by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett.
Alien: Romulus is now playing in theaters.
One of the problems with remakes, especially with horror titles, is that those familiar with the source material have a good idea of what to expect going in. Thankfully, the remake of Silent Hill 2 is going to have some changes in store for those that played the original game. We already expected that there would be some new elements based on the expanded length of the remake, but now we have a better idea of one element that has been changed from the original. In a new interview with Play Magazine, Silent Hill lead series producer Motoi Okamoto revealed that enemies apparently won't appear in the same locations they did in the 2001 game. In doing so, the hope is to keep things fresh for even the most passionate Silent Hill 2 fans.
"As for the creatures, we have some minor updates. We have also replaced and remapped all the enemies from where they were placed in the original so everyone can have a fresh take on combat," Okamoto told Play Magazine.
Silent Hill 2 is not the only remake that has used this approach; it's a pretty tried and true method to differentiate remakes from their original games. When Capcom similarly remade the original Resident Evil, the developers made several efforts to play against the expectations of existing fans. A lot of Silent Hill fans have been cautiously optimistic about this remake from Bloober Team, so It will be interesting to see how a lot of purists feel about the changes that have been made.
The reason so many fans are worried about the remake of Silent Hill 2 is because the original is considered one of the best video games ever made. More than two decades after its release, the Konami game is held in high esteem among players, as well as those passionate about the horror genre. It remains to be seen whether Bloober Team will be able to deliver an experience that truly lives up to that game, but if the developer pulls it off, this could end up being the definitive version of an existing classic. Thankfully, we don't have to wait long to see how things turn out, as Silent Hill 2 is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC on October 8th.

]]>Bruce Campbell is an iconic actor known best for playing Ash in the Evil Dead franchise, but he's also got many other big projects under his belt. The star recently appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Pizza Poppa, and he's known for projects such as Burn Notice, Sky High, Bubba Ho-Tep, and much more. Campbell also has a new project called Hysteria!, a "satanic panic" series that will premiere on Peacock next month. ComicBook recently had the chance to chat with Campbell at San Diego Comic-Con, and he teased what fans can expect from the new series.
"I'll get yelled at if I say too much, but I'll say just the right amount," Campbell teased. "It's a cool horror with a twist. Meaning, it's pretty interesting, psychological horror as well as demonic/satanic horror ... It's a small town in rural Michigan, my home state, set in the late '80s and I play the chief of police, Chief Dandridge. And what I like about it, the words are what got me. These days, if someone says, 'Hey Bruce, here's a new horror show you could be part of.' I'm like, 'Okay, let's see how good the words are.' Because it could be a piece of el crappo. So, the words were very good. They created a very rich character and a rich environment in this town."
"If this happened in a big city, no one would care," he continued. "But this is a small town, these people are not ready for this. And they don't know where it's gonna go and the audience will not know where it's gonna go or how it's going to end or how bad it's gonna get because you don't even know if this sh*t real or not. So, this is my favorite kind of horror where you go, 'Did I just see that?' Because they'll do stuff in the show, you go, 'What was that?' And then they'll cut to another scene. So, it's a cool show."
"And I couldn't even get myself in trouble by telling you too much, because I don't even know the twists and turns," Campbell explained. "I like the setting because what's also cool is nobody's texting. This is like '88. You're picking up the phone, you make phone calls. If nobody's there, it just keeps ringing. You can't even leave a message in '88. And if they're on the phone, you're not getting through. There's no call waiting in the '80s. There's ashtrays on tables, there's pencils and pens and pieces of paper in the police station. It's all just paper and telephones."
You can watch our interview with Campbell at the top of the page. Hysteria! premieres on Peacock on October 13th.
The ComicBook Nation crew previews the Fall TV and Movie schedules and share their hype levels for some of the most highly anticipated releases! There's also a review and discussion of The Crow reboot starring Bill Skarsg?rd!
PLUS: Deep-dive discussion about the status of Star Wars after The Acolyte's cancelation, and a debate about Marvel's Blade reboot and what kind of film it should be.
This is what ComicBook Nation host Kofi Outlaw had to say in his 2-star review of The Crow:
Under the direction of Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and the genuine effort made by stars Bill Skarsg?rd and FKA Twigs, The Crow isn't a total failure - but it is a messy mismatch of high-art aspirations and bloody, brutal, B-movie action-horror. It's both vibrantly alive with creative spark and passion - and a listless, muddled attempt at telling a cinematic story.
...It's not impossible that, despite its flaws, The Crow will follow the path of the original and grow into a cult hit in years to come. If nothing else, it's one of the biggest showcases yet of Bill Skarsg?rd's potential as a leading man (and not just the lineup of odd creatures and/or creeps he's played). But, after more than a decade of trying to get this reboot off the ground - and all the creative talent that's been attached to it along the way - it's almost amusing that middling effort is the end result.

]]>Gun Media has announced changes to the way that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be getting updates in the future. In a post on the game's official subreddit, the publisher has announced that the standard bi-weekly patches will be going away, and the team will be moving to monthly updates instead. The logic is that this should give the developers more time to work on patches, as well as develop new content. Despite this, the developers still plan to take in feedback from players as they work to improve the overall game.
"With transitioning back to a monthly cadence, this decision was made to extend the amount of time our team has to work on a patch. Year Two of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and the Content Pass marks a new shift for how we will be rolling out content and game updates. With this new era, we feel this is the best way to proceed forward, while keeping up the flow of incoming new content," the post reads.
It remains to be seen how that approach will work out, but a lot of fans have already voiced frustration. Monthly updates were previously a thing, and Gun Media moved away from them in favor of the bi-weekly method. Texas Chain Saw Massacre fans think this is a step backwards, and many are concerned that monthly updates will mean that certain issues will now take longer to resolve. Reddit user Thumperf00t says that the developer "has demonstrated an inability to act nimbly where needed, to respond to community feedback where overwhelming, and to follow-through where promised." Another user with the handle LowenbrauDel argues that "in the current age you have to be proactive. Otherwise, players will just move on."
LowenbrauDel certainly does have a point. With The Texas Chain Saw Massacre leaving Xbox Game Pass earlier this month, the developers will have some work to do to convince those players to buy the game, or that their money was well spent. Since launching last year, one of the biggest concerns about The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is that it would quickly stop seeing updates as we saw with Friday the 13th: The Game. That obviously hasn't happened yet, but it's hardly unprecedented, and now there's increased competition with the release of asymmetrical horror games like Killer Clowns from Outer Space.
It remains to be seen how these changes will pan out. It's entirely possible that changing to a monthly system will result in better updates and a development team that has a little more breathing room. But fans can hardly be blamed for feeling concerned about the game's future.

"Having a budget significantly higher than my last film, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, I'm aiming to make this the definitive Pinocchio horror film and my best movie to date. Exciting cast announcements will follow shortly!"
Jagged Edge producer Scott Chambers told ComicBook earlier this year the hope was to eventually cross all these characters over in an Avengers: Endgame-style horror film eventually.
"We're creating a universe," Chambers shared earlier this March. "So my dream movie, honestly, since I was a kid, I wanted a film where they were all in it: Leatherface, Hellraiser, Chucky. I wanted them all in it. And I was like, 'Well, that's probably never going to happen,' but I can now do this. So that's where things are going with Peter Pan, with Pinocchio, with Bambi, we're going to do this, and they're all going to meet and they're all going to cross over and it's going to be madness."
"That is 100% the goal," he continued. "When you watch these films, these are all intro movies. So Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Bambi, they're what either we've just made or we are working on right now. When you see the movies, look out for easter eggs, they're littered in these movies. These worlds, they're all in the same kind of universe."
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is streaming on Peacock while the sequel can be seen on Amazon's Prime Video.
Many would attribute The Blair Witch Project with carving out its own niche in horror filmmaker, effectively launching the modern-day found footage subgenre as we know it. The indie powerhouse is considered one of the genre heavyweights, and has become a bonafide classic over its 25 years in existence. As it turns out, however, we've been watching the wrong version of the movie this entire time. Blair Witch producer Mike Monello recently took to Twitter to share an extensive thread on why the version of the film released both in theaters and on home media isn't the one filmmakers intended to release but rather, the one released due to technological restrictions at the time.
"In 1999, theatrical films didn't originate on video, so there was no codified process for putting them out on video. So they did it like all films back then: They transferred the 35mm negative to video," Monello explained. "Unfortunately, the 35mm negative is NOT the actual camera negative. As a result, the version released for all forms of home video is incorrect. The colors, the motion, the strange rounded corners, it didn't look like a home video, and it didn't look like film."
Now, only certain people will be able to see the film transfer as it was meant to thanks to a new Blu-ray pressing courtesy of the UK-based Second Sight Films. Because it's being released in the UK, there is one caveat: the Blu-ray is region-locked as a Region B release, which means your Blu-ray player will need to be able to play Region B discs.

-- Second Sight (@SecondSightFilm) August 23, 2024
"This is the FIRST (and for the immediate time being) the ONLY edition of the film to be properly transferred for home video release. It finally looks the way it did to us when we were editing the film. The way we wanted it to look. In fact, if theaters had been able to project video in 1999, then THIS transfer would have played theatrically! The 35mm print was a step we had to take due to the technology of the time," Monello added.
Monello ended the thread by apologizing for the release being limited to Region B, and encouraged fans interested in a region-free version to reach out to Lionsgate and request one.
"I know many will be upset that it is Region B. I WISH it were all-region, but contracts and legal stuff prevent that. That said, THIS edition COULD be released in the US. That decision belongs exclusively to @Lionsgate or @LionsgateHorror," he finished. "If you don't have a region-free player, I suggest you contact @Lionsgate directly and ask them to release this version of the film."
The Blair Witch Project reboot has yet to set a release date. The original found footage classic can be rented or purchased through virtually any video marketplace.
Sabrina Carpenter's highly anticipated album Short n' Sweet is finally here, and to coincide with the launch Carpenter released one of her best music videos yet. The video is for the album's lead track Taste, and features Wednesday star Jenna Ortega in a hilarious and often gory battle that involves shotguns, fences, knives, fire, and more. The video also pays homage to several other beloved properties throughout, and we're here to break down the big references and inspirations, including Death Becomes Her, Kill Bill, and more. Let's start with one of the biggest inspirations for the video, which also turns out to be one of Carpenter's favorite films.
From the opening fight, you can clearly see the video takes big inspiration from the 1992 Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep dark comedy Death Becomes Her. The film had Hawn and Streep attempting to kill each other over a man, but with both women now immortal thanks to a potion, that task proves quite difficult and leads to some unforgettable scenes.
One speck part in the video has Carpenter sitting up in the hospital after being gravely injured, and reveals a gaping hole in her stomach. That's a direct reference to one of the film's most iconic scenes where Hawn says "I have a hole in my stomach", and you can clearly see through to the other side. As for the kiss in the video, that is also tied to a memorable kiss line in the original film.
The reason Carpenter ends up in the hospital is because Ortega throws her out of a second story window, causing Carpenter to be impaled on a white picket fence. After she lands on the fence, Carpenter flips Ortega the bird (pricelessly I might add). That's a direct reference to the 2000 film Ginger Snaps, which features the same type of death, and the bird is flipped in a final act.
During the hospital scene, Carpenter is supposed to be getting patched up, but she never has a chance to recover, as Ortega is there dressed as a nurse that might look awfully familiar. That's because Ortega has a red-cross eye patch just like Daryl Hannah did in Kill Bill Vol. 1. Ortega would fit right in with that movie, as she picks up a defibrillator and shocks Carpenter with it multiple times. The font used throughout the video seems to homage Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction as well.
Carpenter does eventually recover from the fence, the defibrillator, and being set on fire, and makes her way to the mansion to face Ortega. She does so wearing a white feather boa that seems to be inspired by Joan Cusack's famous villain Debbie Jelinsky in The Addams Family Values. Carpenter's blonde hair also echoes Belinsky's blonde look from the film, and we think Jelinsky would be quite impressed by the lengths Carpenter is willing to go to win this fight.
When Carpenter makes her way into the house, she also recreates an iconic moment from the horror classic Psycho, opening up the shower curtain and attempting to stab Ortega with a knife. Ortega is prepared though and has s blade of her own, which she promptly uses to cut off Carpenter's arm. The two continue to battle as they make their way downstairs, and despite losing an arm, Carpenter keeps fighting back, though ultimately loses to Ortega.
In that Psycho-inspired scene, there's another nod to the horror genre, though this one is tied to Halloween Ends. The man the two are fighting over is played by Rohan Campbell, who played Corey Cunningham in Halloween Ends. In this scene he's in the shower with Ortega and screams when she cleaves Carpenter's arm off, causing blood to spatter everywhere.
After a prolonged battle between these two, their fight heads by the pool as Ortega takes out a chainsaw. Ortega then stabs Carpenter with the chainsaw and knocks her into the pool. The juxtaposition of the chainsaw and grisly death with the picturesque scenery in the daylight also screams Texas Chainsaw Massacre, though the chainsaw itself kind of makes that clear.

]]>It's still summer for the better part of the next month. Before long, however, the leaves will begin changing colors, streaming services will push horror films to the forefront, and spooky season will be in full effect. In fact, some might say it's already started given General Mills has already started shipping this year's line of Monster Cereals to supermarkets around the country.
"Got 'em! Just found all of the new Monster Cereals, including 'Monsters' Frightful Friends' -- a berry-flavored mash-up starring all of the mascots' new pets, in marshmallow form," @DinosaurDracula tweeted earlier this month.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 zombies is set to add a feature players have been desperate for. Zombies was first introduced back in 2008 with the release of Call of Duty: World at War. Since then, it has not been a staple of the series, but it has been a staple of Treyarch-developed Call of Duty games. To this end, it's not surprising to see zombies back with Black Ops 6. What is surprising is a newly-announced feature for the mode.
Treyarch has confirmed that when Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 zombies releases, it will have a save and quit menu. Of course, this only applies to non-online matches of the mode, but it is a feature that players are nonetheless elated to have in the mode for the very first time.
"This is a huge one," said associate design director, Kevin Drew. "For the first time ever, in solo, you will be able to save and quit at any point.... and there are some restrictions on how that works. Essentially if you are in a safe spot, you can save and quit, and then pick up that save at a later point.
It is unclear why it took so long for this basic feature to be added, especially with how wanted it was by players. It's also unclear why now of all times is the time has been added, but it has, and players are happy to see it in the game.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to release worldwide on October 25. When it does release, it will be available via PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. At launch, it will be available for standard, regular purchase, and for the first time, it will also be available via Xbox Game Pass.

]]>Alien: Romulus has entered its second weekend in theaters, and the new horror/sci-fi from director Fede ?lvarez is having a successful run at the box office so far. The movie is also up on Rotten Tomatoes with an 80% critics score and 86% audience score, making it the best-reviewed Alien movie in nearly 40 years. ?lvarez has recently teased some hidden Alien easter eggs in the movie, but you'll also find a nod to Predator. Of course, the Alien and Predator films are connected with Alien vs. Predator being released in 2004 and AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem in 2007.
"@fedalvar was the temperature numbers going up on the facehugger containments a nod to this in the predator? Really got the feeling it was," @bYohnk asked ?lvarez on Twitter. "I'm a TAP guy, so everything I do is influenced by Terminator / Alien / Predator," ?lvarez replied. You can view the interaction below:
I'm a TAP guy, so everything I do is influenced by Terminator / Alien / Predator https://t.co/2W8H6o4QJq

Alien vs. Predator
- Disney)Now that the Predator franchise is thriving again in addition to the success of Alien: Romulus, a third crossover installment feels more possible than ever. ?lvarez recently addressed the idea when speaking to Deadline.
"Maybe it's something I have to co-direct with my buddy Dan," ?lvarez suggested, referring to Prey director, Dan Trachtenberg. "Maybe we should do like Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez did with Dusk Till Dawn. I'll direct a half, and he'll direct another half."
It's worth noting that From Dusk Till Dawn was written by Tarantino and directed by Rodriguez. Tarantino also co-starred in the film, but they did not share directing duties. It's possible ?lvarez was referring to Grindhouse, which featured a double bill of Rodriguez's film Planet Terror with Tarantino's Death Proof. In 2005, Tarantino also guest-directed a scene in Rodriguez's film, Sin City.
20th Century Studios presents Alien: Romulus
- 20th Century Studios)Alien: Romulus is being billed as more of a spinoff rather than a direct continuation of the Alien franchise and will see a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. ?lvarez has previously opened up about how a deleted scene from James Cameron's Aliens featuring young colonists inspired Romulus' story.
Alien: Romulus viewers have been drawing comparisons between the Alien movie's protagonist, Rain, and Ellie from The Last of Us nonstop since the movie's premiere, but as it turns out, there is an actual connection between the movie and game that's been confirmed by the director. It doesn't have anything to do with Cailee Spaeny's character Rain and Ellie, however, and instead deals with Kay, the pregnant character in Alien: Romulus whose pregnancy becomes a core part of the movie. Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez confirmed this week that Kay's character was in fact inspired by Dina from The Last of Us Part 2.
Alvarez discussed the connection over on X after one of many people asked him if he'd played The Last of Us. He confirmed that he had and said that he was actually playing The Last of Us Part 2 when writing Alien: Romulus. Upon seeing that Dina was pregnant in the game, he found inspiration for Kay.
"Fun fact: I was playing #TheLastOfUs2 while writing #AlienRomulus," he said on X. "The story of a pregnant Dina made me think of having the character of Kay be pregnant too. Then I cast Isabella Merced to play Kay.... A year later she gets cast to play Dina on the HBO show.... True story."
As Alvarez pointed out, the relationship here is even more uncanny than a normal inspiration for the character given that actress Isabella Merced played Kay in Alien: Romulus and has also been cast as Dina in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us TV show. We haven't seen Merced in the show yet since Season 2 has yet to be released, but we've heard plenty from her about her character's relationship with Ellie as well as what it's been like working on some of the tougher parts of Season 2. The next season has wrapped filming now, but it doesn't have a release date yet.
As for Alien: Romulus, Alvarez has been revealing more and more details like these now that the movie's out with people realizing that there are probably several things they didn't pick up on during their first watch. There's of course the question of whether or not we'll see Rain in another Alien movie in the future, perhaps as a sequel to Alien: Romulus, but nothing's been confirmed at this time.
Filmmaker Michael Bay is embarking on a new venture with the docuseries Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior for Investigation Discovery, which has just earned its first trailer. Bay is no stranger to delivering audiences compelling stories about colorful characters, but he's entering an all-new realm by chronicling the crimes of a convicted killer. Born Evil focuses on the story of Hadden Clark, who is currently serving two 30-year sentences, with the series including recordings of the killer himself. You can check out the trailer for Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior below before it premieres on Monday, September 2nd as part of a three-night event.
"Throughout my career, I've always focused on meeting real people -- from scientists of all kinds to alligator wranglers, law enforcement agents to bank robbers, and even Kings and Queens -- gaining true insights for my films," Bay shared in a statement. "Born Evil is my first venture into the documentary world, and it revolves around a serial killing family you have never heard of. The focus of this five-hour series is on the youngest son, Hadden Clark, whom I spent countless hours personally speaking to in prison so that I could get into the mind and psychology of a person who the FBI refers to as 'a person of interest' in over 20 states. Born Evil could potentially open the door to solving many cold case murders."
Jason Sarlanis, President of ID, added, "Michael Bay is one of the best storytellers of our generation and he brings unprecedented access to one of the most terrifying serial killer stories in history. With Born Evil, we have ID's next blockbuster series and we deliver on our promise to provide viewers with premium, true crime content from the best filmmakers in the business."
Per press release, "Investigation Discovery's highly anticipated docuseries from executive producer Michael Bay, Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior, will premiere across three nights beginning Monday, September 2nd on ID. Featuring a deep dive into the actions of Hadden Clark, a lesser-known serial killer, Born Evil explores his life and crimes. Over five episodes, the docuseries delves into the inner workings of the volatile and dysfunctional Clark family, Hadden's path of depravity, and the shocking confessions he made to his cellmate that sent investigators on a search to solve the cold cases allegedly linked to him."
"Anchored in exclusive access to Clark himself through private, recorded conversations initiated and conducted by Michael Bay, Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior showcases a chilling portrait of one of the most terrifying serial killers in recent decades. The docuseries, which will also be available to stream on Max, offers insight into Clark's traumatic childhood, a violent family history, and unpacks the many unsolved cold cases linked to his prison confessions. Explosive interviews with key individuals are also layered throughout, with Hadden's brother Geoff Clark going on the record and then, most jarring, the recipient of Clark's confessions, his former cellmate Jack Truitt whom Clark believed to be 'Jesus' and his personal savior.
"Featuring additional, unprecedented access to Clark's personal journals and illustrations outlining his crimes, Born Evil also offers a road map to the litany of unsolved cases Clark allegedly left in his wake. Through interviews with law enforcement and loved ones of the victims, the docuseries sheds insight into the investigation, and into the lingering impact of Clark's crimes and the tragic repercussions of a serial killer who flew under the radar for too long."
Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior premieres on Monday, September 2nd as part of a three-night event.

]]>The Crow (2024) tells the rebooted story of Eric (Bills Skarsg?rd) and Shelly (FKA Twigs), two soulmates who fall into a passionate Gothic romance that goes tragically wrong. When Both Eric and Shelly are brutally murdered, Eric's soul is returned to the land of the living to exact revenge. That's the basic framework of the original Crow comic series and its 1994 film adaptation - but The Crow (2024) adds new fantastical elements to the story that result in quite a different sort of ending than the original film.
Bill Skarsg?rd as Eric in The Crow (2024)
- Lionsgate Films)In this version of the story, Eric's powers of immortality and healing as "The Crow" are bestowed upon him by the spiritual entity Kronos (Sami Bouajila). Eric meets Kronos in an otherworldly crossroads between life and death (which is weirdly designed to look like an abandoned factory or train yard). However, in this version, Eric's powers come with a catch - one that is revealed in a Second Act twist, when Eric's body suddenly stops regenerating, and he falls down dead (again) after taking a goon's shotgun blast point-blank.
When Eric gets back to the crossroads, Sami informs him that his love for Shelly was why he was given the god-level gift of immortality - to not only get vengeance for their murders but also rescue Shelly's soul from damnation. However, earlier in the film, Eric discovered that Shelly was once a plaything of crime lord Vincent Roeg (Danny Huston), who used his demonic powers to corrupt Shelly (and others) into doing evil acts - including having Shelly brutally murder an innocent girl. That discovery made Eric waver in his love, and so his immortality was rescinded. Eric realizes too late how badly he's squandered his gift, and in desperation to save Shelly, he makes a devil's bargain with Kronos: If his powers are restored, he will complete his mission of vengeance on Earth and wipe out Roeg's demonic influence. To seal the deal, Eric makes a drastic deal: when his job is done, he will trade his soul for Shelly's, so that she may be resurrected, while he will take her place in damnation.
Eric's deal is accepted, and true to his word he returns to the living world and slaughters Victor Roeg's entire criminal organization. When it comes to the final boss battle with Roeg himself, Eric is nearly defeated by his demonic influence - until he pulls Roeg into the crossroads realm along with him. There, the forces of Hell quickly rise up and drag Roeg down into an inky pool of blackness; a moment later, Shelly rises up out of that same dark pool and is reunited with Eric for all of a second, before her soul is sent back to Earth.
In a somewhat baffling ending, Shelly is revived by paramedics on the floor of her apartment, seemingly hours after her murder. Eric is dead next to her, but in a final scene, it's revealed that he remains in the crossroads realm with the mystical crows, instead of being dragged down to the dark place.
The ending of The Crow (2024) leaves the door open for possible sequels, as Eric is still a restless spirit stuck between life and death, presumably ready to once again return and punish evil if so instructed.
There's been some controversy about The Crow's ending possibly being changed to set up sequels, instead of having a definitive ending like the 1994 version, which reunited Eric and Shelly in the afterlife. For his part, Rupert Sanders claims he made a standalone flick, while still leaving a window open for more to come:
"The movie, I think, stands alone. I personally hate movies where you have to see the sequel. A movie should finish in a way that feels satisfactory to the story, and this movie does," Sanders told THR.
Lionsgate's new The Crow
- Lionsgate)"Can it continue for a second adventure? Yes," he admitted. Bill's Eric is an incredible character, and by the end of the movie, he's become something new. In a way, it's the origin story of a character like Batman, and I think Bill's Dark Knight could very well be around the corner," Sanders shares. "The exciting idea of him moving between worlds and between life and death is fascinating. So there's definitely a million versions of what that could be, but right now, my focus was on telling the story of Eric and Shelly and finishing that story in a very finite way."
The Crow (2024) is now in theaters.
Visionary storyteller Guillermo del Toro fails to limit himself to any one genre, with all of the stories he offers audiences managing to blur the lines between themes and tones to offer entirely unique experiences. One such experience was 2015's Crimson Peak, his follow-up to the action-adventure monster movie Pacific Rim, with Crimson Peak being a gothic romance full of monstrous figures. Despite the acclaim that del Toro had earned with a number of his projects, Crimson Peak was relatively disappointing in its box-office performance, though the filmmaker recently opened up about how he knew the project was facing challenges as it was being marketed as more of a horror movie than a layered narrative.
"The thing that will always, pun intended, haunt that movie is that it was sold as a horror movie. But I remember distinctly, when we had the meetings [about promotion], they were all targeted toward getting the horror audience for the opening weekend," del Toro explained to Vulture. "And I knew we were doomed! I was saying, 'You should promote the romance, and you should promote the mystery. The last thing you want to do is promote it as horror.' We were opening in October, and October is the month of Halloween, so I understand why it happened."
He continued, "But, you know, it's a movie that connects with the people who love it at an almost molecular level. Little by little, some movies gather their audience through the years. Some others are very successful right when they come out, then you don't hear from them again. We can have every variation. I'm finding that I'm happier when I'm in a relationship with people who truly find a movie and own it."
Crimson Peak follows the story of an aspiring author who is wooed by a mysterious stranger to a remote Gothic mansion built upon a red clay mountain. There, she must decipher the mansion's many secrets, the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home, and fight not only for her sanity, but for her very life.
The 2015 film performed somewhat positively with critics, sitting at 73% positive reviews on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, though its audience score is only at 56% positive. It went on to take in $75 million worldwide on a reported budget of $55 million.
Del Toro's next movie, 2017's The Shape of Water, similarly blended together a variety of themes and took home the Oscar for Best Picture.

Stephen King fans will want to make sure they're subscribed to Max so they can check out the new adaptation of Salem's Lot. The producing teams behind the record-breaking horror franchises The Conjuring universe and the It films are reuniting for Salem's Lot, a film adaptation of Stephen King's 1975 bestselling novel of the same name. There was recently some uncertainty surrounding Salem's Lot when it was moved from a theatrical to streaming release. However, the feature film starring Lewis Pullman is still on the schedule, and will arrive just in time for the Halloween season.
Salem's Lot will make it's streaming debut on Max in October, though a firm premiere date has not been officially announced. New images with the announcement feature the Salem's Lot cast of Lewis Pullman (Ben Mears), Alfre Woodard (Dr. Cody), Makenzie Leigh (Susan Norton), Bill Camp (Matthew Burke), Spencer Treat Clark (Mike Ryerson), Pilou Asbaek (Straker), and John Benjamin Hickey (Father Callahan).
Director Gary Dauberman compared how the horror film brings back the feeling of attending a drive-in feature. "It's this crazy sugar-high of a scene. I thought, 'Yeah, this is what this is. This is a drive-in movie,'" Dauberman told Vanity Fair of a scene largely inspired by the first-edition cover of King's novel. "As with most horror movies, I think audiences really elevate the experience. So I think getting as many people as you can cram on the couch would be my preferred way to watch this."
Alfre Woodard, John Benjamin Hickey, Makenzie Leigh, Lewis Pullman, and Jordan Preston Carter star in Salem's Lot
- Justin Lubin/Max)Author Ben Mears returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem's Lot in search of inspiration for his next book only to discover his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire.
Salem's Lot stars Lewis Pullman as Ben Mears, Alfre Woodard as Dr. Cody, Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton, Bill Camp as Matthew Burke, Spencer Treat Clark as Mike Ryerson, Pilou Asbaek as Straker, and John Benjamin Hickey as Father Callahan.

It was announced earlier this year that an I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot is heading to theaters in 2025, and it's expected to be a legacy sequel, which means horror fans have been waiting to find out if the original film's stars will be popping up. Considering Jennifer Love Hewitt's Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr.'s Ray Bronson survived the events of both I Know What You Did Last Summer and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, those are the big names folks are waiting to hear about. However, there's one other famous face that survived the sequel: Brandy Norwood's Karla Wilson. Norwood previously revealed that she'd be open to returning to the role, and gave a new update to Entertainment Tonight.
"I heard some things about," Norwood teased. "So, hopefully ... I don't know how she would come back," she added. "I haven't thought about that yet but I know that she should come back. She should definitely come back." Norwood revealed that they have reached out to her about the project. "So, we'll see what happens."
Brand
- A24)26 years after I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Norwood is returning to horror in The Front Room. The movie was helmed by Max and Sam Eggers, the brothers of The Witch and The Lighthouse director Robert Eggers. Having collaborated with their brother on his previous films, The Front Room marks the younger Eggers Brothers' debut feature film.
The Front Room is described, "Everything goes to hell for newly-pregnant Belinda (Brandy) after her mother-in-law (Kathryn Hunter) moves in. As the diabolical guest tries to get her claws on the child, Belinda must draw the line somewhere..." Also starring in the film are Andrew Burnap and Neal Huff.
The Fron Room hits theaters on September 6th.
Outer Banks' Madelyn Cline and Riverdale's Camila Mendes
- Netflix/The CW)It was announced in July that Camila Mendes (Riverdale), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid), and Tony Award-nominated Sarah Pidgeon were all in talks to join the project. This new film is set to be directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, based on an initial draft by Leah McKendrick. One of the original producers, Neal Moritz, is also on board to produce.
The new I Know What You Did Last Summer currently has a release date of July 18, 2025.
Ahead of the release of Osgood Perkins' Longlegs, the promotional materials failed to offer much insight into the extent of the titular killer's terror or what inspired him to carry out such nefarious deeds, and once the film landed in theaters, both audiences and the characters in the film were similarly bewildered by him. In honor of the new movie landing on Digital today, we have an exclusive clip in which Maika Monroe's Lee Harker and Blair Underwood's Agent Carter ponder how Nicolas Cage's killer has been able to avoid authorities for so long. Per press release, "Award-winning film studio NEON announced today that audiences will soon be able to enjoy its highest grossing theatrical film, Longlegs, at home. The film will be available for digital purchase and rental beginning August 23rd, and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD featuring bonus materials, including on-set interviews with cast and crew and feature-length commentary with writer/director Osgood Perkins, starting September 24th."
"Hailed as the 'scariest film of the year,' Longlegs was written and directed by Perkins and stars Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, and Nicolas Cage. To date, Longlegs has grossed an impressive $71 million at the U.S. box office, and over $100 million globally. Dave Caplan produced and financed Longlegs through his C2 Motion Picture Group banner. Producers include Nicolas Cage along with his production company Saturn Films, Dan Kagan, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Chris Ferguson.
"NEON made waves this summer for its campaign that garnered excitement and intrigue, beginning with the first cryptic teasers launched earlier this year. The campaign continued with multiple mysterious posters and cipher messages in local newspapers. At the end of June, a billboard popped up in Los Angeles with a phone number that, when dialed, the caller heard an unnerving message from Longlegs, played by Nicolas Cage. The phone number has received over 1.35million calls across the globe."
Especially when it comes to horror movies, when a highly anticipated movie comes to home video, fans hope for unrated, extended, or director's cuts, though Perkins previously confirmed no alternate cut of Longlegs will be released. The film's editors also previously explained the challenge of using just enough of Cage's performance to impact audiences while also avoiding overwhelming them.
"There is a lot of material from the jail scene or the interrogation room scene," Graham Fortin confirmed to ComicBook. "I remember, can we say 'Crimson and Clover?' Cage sang that whole entire song, like, 'Crimson and Clover. Over and over...' And that was in for a while, and then we lost that. There's some material from the house I remember that was lost."
Greg Ng continued, "I do feel like they're fairly efficient with all that. While the scenes were maybe trimmed, there weren't tons of scenes that were lying on the cutting room floor. There was certainly extra material, and it's Nick Cage, so everything was gold. It wasn't a matter of we didn't want to use it, it was just that there's so much of it, and you can only give the audience ... You've got to give everybody what they need instead of, you can't just give them a Nick Cage milkshake and throw it in everyone's face. So maybe people would like that, but that's not what this movie is."
You can buy or rent Longlegs on Digital today and pick it up on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on September 24th.

One reason was that it starred Josh Hartnett as a serial killer, with the actor more known for roles that are endearing and sympathetic, and another reason was that the film also starred Shyamalan's daughter Saleka Shyamalan as pop icon Lady Raven. In honor of Trap coming to home video, we have an exclusive featurette that explores how the movie came together, from how Shyamalan's daughter impacted its development to casting Hartnett. You can check out the featurette above before Trap lands on Digital to buy or rent on August 30th and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on November 5th.
In Trap, a father and teen daughter attend a pop concert, where they realize they're at the center of a dark and sinister event.
Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, Trap stars Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill. The film is produced by Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock, and M. Night Shyamalan. The executive producer is Steven Schneider.
Trap Premium Digital Ownership, 4K UHD and Blu-ray contain the following special features:
With the film featuring an open-ended conclusion, fans have wondered what could be next for the characters who survived the journey, with Shyamalan sharing earlier this month what the chances would be of a follow-up film.
"We screened this for an audience and they were so excited. And at the end, in a test screening, someone asked the audience, 'How many of you wanna see a sequel of this?' And every hand in the theater went up and I was hiding. And I saw it, and I was like, 'Whoa,'" Shyamalan told The Playlist. "So that's one. And then two, okay, I finished this movie, three weeks ago, I went back to the office the next day and felt an absolute loss that I wasn't going to be with these characters again. I used to run to the editing room. I loved this movie and I wanted to be with this music and these characters and Cooper and Riley and Lady Raven, all of them. And so that was a strange feeling. They become a part of you when you're making these characters. And, and it was such a joyful experience; we were laughing through it and, playing, and the audience can feel that."
Trap lands on Digital to buy or rent on August 30th and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on November 5th.

]]>The Crow went from a cult-hit comic series to a cult-hit movie when the 1994 original hit theaters. Its gothic design and themes perfectly captured the Gen X angst of the 1990s, and inspired a stylistic wave that is still iconic today. The indelible influence of The Crow is a testament to the power of director Alex Proyas' vision - but it's also been the biggest impediment to The Crow becoming a larger franchise property. None of the subsequent Crow sequels (City of Angels, Salvation, Wicked Prayer) ever found a way to open up the doors of the franchise to new generations -- but has this year's The Crow finally done it, or is it just another failed attempt?
Under the direction of Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and the genuine effort made by stars Bill Skarsg?rd and FKA Twigs, The Crow isn't a total failure - but it is a messy mismatch of high-art aspirations and bloody, brutal, B-movie action-horror. It's both vibrantly alive with creative spark and passion - and a listless, muddled attempt at telling a cinematic story. If you think The Crow is a property that can function simply off style and vibes, Sanders' film will make you second-guess that assessment.
Bills Skarsg?rd & FKA Twigs in 'The Crow' (2024)
- Lionsgate Films)The Story of The Crow follows Eric (Skarsg?rd), a troubled boy whose violent past and deep traumas land him in a rehab facility. While there, he eventually meets Shelly (Twigs), an equally troubled girl also trying to leave a violent past behind - only it quickly becomes clear that Shelly's past is very much still a threat to her present. After falling quickly for one another, Eric and Shelly escape the facility and start a whirlwind romance - which just as quickly ends in tragedy. It turns out that Shelly has been sitting on proof of local business magnate (and secret crime lord) Vincent Roeg's (Danny Huston) demonic power - evidence that Roeg is willing to kill for. Eric and Shelly are eventually found by Roeg's people and are sadistically murdered - but Eric's soul will not rest, and he finds himself at the crossroads of life and death, being offered a opportunity by the spiritual entity Kronos (Sami Bouajila): Take a crow as his guide back to the land of the living and use the power of immortality to wipe Roeg's demonic stain from the Earth, and in doing so win back Shelly's soul.
However, Eric's soul is already so troubled that taking to his new powers and mission proves to be his biggest challenge - even more so than slaughtering his way through hordes of Roeg's goons to finally get at the demon lord himself.
The Crow isn't a total failure, but rather a film that's ultimately dragged down by poor directorial measurements. For all the knee-jerk criticisms of this adaptation, Rupert Sanders and cinematographer Steve Annis (Foundation, I'm a Virgo) manage to depict the gothic world of The Crow in a lavishly dark, almost high-art way that could arguably become its own cult-hit stylistic milestone, in time. That said, Sanders (once again) seems to be overly indulgent in how much high-art imagery and deeper drama he tries to pack onto the bones of what is ostensibly a genre B-movie (see also: Snow White and the Huntsman), throwing the pacing of The Crow off to a degree that nearly breaks the movie by the end of the second act.
The chemistry between Skarsg?rd and Twigs is palpable, and the Eric/Shelly love story in this film is more convincing than the original - but Sanders invests far too much time early on in building out the world and the story of Shelly's involvement with Roeg before we even get to the adult version of Eric or learn anything about him. The gothic love story portion of the film works emotionally (and is shot beautifully), but is equally too long, nearly pushing the hour-mark before the actual "Crow" portion of the story even starts. When the supernatural superhero elements do begin, it quickly becomes clear how little investment Sanders has in that side of the film.
Bill Skarsg?rd as Eric in The Crow (2024)
- Lionsgate Films)The story (by screenwriters Zach Baylin and William Josef Schneider) stumbles into subplots about Eric's crisis of faith in his love, or his baffling reluctance to embrace his powers from the outset. Nearly all of the hardcore action marketed in trailers for The Crow occurs in about 20-25 minutes of the final act of this nearly two-hour film; the rest of it is a rumination of tragedy, trauma, and grief for the Gen Z era. As many fans called out early on, this new version of The Crow does indeed supplant the "goth" elements of the franchise with a modern "emo" vibe, which is novel, at first, but will lose many older fans by the end.
It's not impossible that, despite its flaws, The Crow will follow the path of the original and grow into a cult hit in years to come.
Rating: 2 out of 5
The Crow is now playing in theaters.
Production is underway for Wednesday, Season 2 and while fans are eager to see what's next for Wednesday Addams in Netflix's Addams Family spinoff, series star Jenna Ortega says that she was "terrified" to return for a second season. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ortega said returning to Wednesday was a bit daunting because of the amount of time that had passed since filming Season 1 -- but that it didn't take long to get back into things.
"I was a little terrified just because it had been years since Wednesday, since we shot the first one. We did that like two or three years ago in Romania," Ortega said. "So, I didn't really know how I... I just was, I think, overthinking it. But as soon as you put on the costumes by Colleen Atwood, you get hair and makeup done, and then you take all the expression out of your face, it's like, 'Oh, okay. I kind of, I know how to do this. Yeah. Yeah.'"
Ortega also explained that she is a producer on Season 2 of the series, something that is letting her get to make decisions about the series, something that she called "exciting".
"I get to decide like how blue somebody's gonna be, or where the brains go on the floor, what prosthetics look like," she said. "It's so exciting. It's so much fun, actually."
One of the most memorable moments in the first season of Wednesday was the now iconic dance sequence, but when it comes to the second season of the series, Ortega says she's unaware that the new season will have such a viral moment -- though only a few episodes of the season have been filmed to date.
"Oh, my God, not that I'm aware of," Ortega said when asked by Extra if there would be another viral dance. "I'm not looking ahead at the schedule; I fear maybe I'll see something.
She did, however, tease memorable scenes.
"We have really incredible set pieces, is what I would say," she said. "We've only done for episodes so far, but every episode has one strong, outstanding scene or factor which is nice. Not to describe it like a movie, like they're all movies, because they're not, but this season just feels like we're getting a bit more of an opportunity to do things we wanted to accomplish in the first one, just maybe didn't have the resources or faith and we just have a lot more trust this season, which is really great."
Wednesday Season 2 is expected sometime in 2025 on Netflix.
]]>Expectations have not been high for The Crow, Lionsgate's reimagining of the 1994 cult classic of the same name, and the early reviews for the film reflect that exact notion. The first reviews for director Rupert Sanders' reboot, which stars Bill Skarsg?rd in the role made famous by the late Brandon Lee, started roll in on Thursday evening, at the same time that The Crow was hitting theaters across the country. That kind of timing is never a good sign.
So far, the reviews haven't been too kind on The Crow. As of Thursday night, 24 reviews had been submitted to Rotten Tomatoes and only a small handful of them were positive, giving The Crow a paltry 13% score. That's better than last weekend's Borderlands bomb, but still one of the worst-reviewed major releases of the year so far.
There has been very little buzz for The Crow leading up to its release, and it's projected to deliver a pretty dismal total at the box office this weekend. The Crow is only expected to make between $6 million and $9 million in North America this weekend.
1994's The Crow still remains a strong presence in the minds of fans, having gained a massive following over the years for its one-of-a-kind aesthetic and Lee's striking performance. For its 30th anniversary, Paramount delivered a 4K restoration of the movie that received widespread acclaim, so its legacy is still fresh in everyone's minds.
Unfortunately, The Crow is also remembered for being the movie that caused the death of Brandon Lee, who was set to use the role of Eric Draven as a springboard to the next level of his career. An accident with a gun on-set resulted in tragedy, and Lee was killed before the entire production was complete. That did lead to many changes on Hollywood sets as far as guns are concerned. The 2024 edition of The Crow banned them from the production entirely.
er the synopsis, "Soulmates Eric (Bill Skarsg?rd) and Shelly (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right."
The Crow (2024) also stars Josette Simon (Anatomy of a Scandal), Sami Bouajila as the spirit of Kronos, with Isabella Wei and Jordan Bolger also appearing in the film. Rupert Sanders is directing from a script by Zach Baylin (King Richard, Creed III, Bob Marley: One Love) and newcomer William Schneider. The film is based on the comic of the same name created by James O'Barr.
Alien: Romulus was released in theaters last weekend, and the latest installment to the beloved franchise had a successful opening weekend. Currently, the movie is up on Rotten Tomatoes with an 81% critics score and 86% audience score, making it the best-reviewed Alien movie in nearly 40 years. Naturally, the movie features plenty of nods to the Alien projects that came before. In fact, there are even some easter eggs you may have missed. Alien: Romulus director Fede ?lvarez recently appeared on the ReelBlend Podcast, and teased a hidden answer to where Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley could be during the events of the film.
"I wouldn't say it's impossible," Alvarez replied when asked if Ripley could be worked into the Romulus storyline. "Because no one knows exactly what happened in all those years that she's been drifting away. I cannot say more. I think for legal reasons, I cannot say more. I would say it's not impossible. I think it's totally possible that it could've been a part of this story somehow."
"There's a few things that I've hid in that movie that is the answer to this question," Alvarez added. "It's just very well hidden. But they're kind of hiding in plain sight." He explained that there are "a few clues" he's "planted in the movie," but "it kind of defeats the whole purpose" if he reveals what they are now.
Alien: Romulus
- Total Film Magazine/20th Century Studios/Disney)Alien: Romulus is being billed as more of a spinoff rather than a direct continuation of the Alien franchise and will see a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. ?lvarez has previously opened up about how a deleted scene from James Cameron's Aliens featuring young colonists inspired Romulus' story.
]]>Filmmakers can't often anticipate what moments from a movie or TV show will go viral when they are unleashed to the public, so no one could quite predict how viral Jenna Ortega's dance in the Addams Family spinoff Wednesday would become or how many memes it would inspire. Ortega was recently asked about whether fans could expect a similarly viral moment in Season 2, specifically if there would be a dance, and she claims that she's unaware of such a moment, though having only filmed four episodes for the next season, it's still possible such a sequence could appear. Wednesday Season 2 is expected to land on Netflix in 2025.
When asked by Extra if there will be another viral dance, Ortega confirmed, "Oh, my God, not that I'm aware of. I'm not looking ahead at the schedule, I fear maybe I'll see something."
Even without a viral dance, Ortega did open up about how audiences can still anticipate memorable scenes, as she teased, "We have really incredible set pieces, is what I would say. We've only done four episodes so far, but every episode has one strong, outstanding scene or factor which is nice. Not to describe it like a movie, like they're all movies, because they're not, but this season just feels like we're getting a bit more of an opportunity to do the things we wanted to accomplish in the first one, just maybe didn't have the resources or faith and we just have a lot more trust this season, which is really great."
Confirming how you can't predict what moments from a show or movie go viral, Ortega actually choreographed the dance herself, piecing together a variety of moves she'd seen from other performers. While she expressed her appreciation about fans connecting with the scene, the attention the scene earned also caused some regrets.
"No, even that, I still can't believe," Ortega recalled to Entertainment Tonight in 2023 about expecting the popularity of the scene. "Some of the moves I had planned, some of it was improv-ed. That was one of the scenes that I stay awake at night thinking about. There was so much I could have done and should have done. So, the fact that anyone has shown any appreciation or even tried it themselves is unfathomable to me."
Wednesday Season 2 is expected to land on Netflix in 2025.

The horror movie Longlegs has been one of the most talked-about genre experiences of the year, starting with its cryptic and creepy marketing campaign and extending all the way through its theatrical release, when it ignited a lot of discussion among audiences. NEON Films has confirmed that Longlegs will be landing on Digital this week and physical media in September. In addition to the film earning lots of buzz among viewers, it also became a major financial success, as it has taken in $100 million worldwide on a reported budget of $10 million. Longlegs hits Digital on August 23rd and hits 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on September 24th.
Per press release, "Award-winning film studio NEON announced today that audiences will soon be able to enjoy its highest grossing theatrical film, Longlegs, at home. While fans are excited for the upcoming release of Longlegs on home video, director Perkins confirms audiences shouldn't anticipate any type of extended director's cut.
While participating in a Reddit AMA, one fan asked if there would be a director's cut, to which Perkins replied, "You've seen the director's cut. no one messed with what I wanted to do. Director's [cuts] are, I think, a bit of nonsense. Check out the Coen [brothers'] 'director's cut' of Blood Simple... it's shorter than the theatrical cut."
Longlegs hits Digital on August 23rd and hits 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on September 24th.

Fifty years after becoming an instant Hollywood icon with The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry will appear in his first feature film since 2010. Stream is getting a limited theatrical release, but marks the first new movie for Curry since Burke & Hare, with the actor having worked almost exclusively as a voice actor since. Curry's last live-action role was in 2016's TV remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on FOX. Curry had a stroke in 2012, and has had difficulty with mobility since.
In addition to Rocky Horror, Curry has appeared in a number of genre projects and bona fide cult classics, from Clue and Psych to Legend and the IT miniseries. The Stream filmmakers were excited to bring him back to the big screen.
"This has been a really hard secret to keep and contain our excitement, especially for this long," director and producer Michael Leavy said in a statement (via Variety, who first reported the news). "We are so happy and thrilled to bring Tim back to the movies and back to the big screen! His charm always radiates and shines through everything he does and we are so honored to have him a part of Stream! He is someone I have idolized personally growing up and it is one of the major highlights of my life getting to work with him, especially on a project that means so much to me. We can't wait for fans to sit back and enjoy our movie in theaters and hopefully with a huge crowd having a blast together! This is the way horror films are meant to be seen and enjoyed. Stream is here to entertain!"
While he hasn't appeared in a feature film in quite a while, Curry has remained in touch with his fans, appearing at conventions and doing press for his various animated projects over the last few years. Last year, he did an interview about the anniversary of Clue, saying that there was actually a fourth, unused ending in which his character was the killer.
"I ran around the house killing everybody," Curry told Empire. "It wasn't funny enough," Lynn explained. "It wasn't surprising enough. It ended the film on an anti-climax. So I just took it out. Three was enough." Curry added, "I've met some real Clue fans at conventions, who even came dressed as some of the characters ... Which was familiar to me because I'd had that for years with Rocky Horror, of course."
In Stream, "As the Keenan's try to bring their family closer together, they unwittingly enter themselves into a game of life or death. With four deranged killers patrolling the halls of their hotel and competing for the most creative kills, the odds are definitely stacked against them."
Stream opens Wednesday in select theaters.
Alien: Romulus hit the ground running this past weekend, debuting in theaters across the country to great reviews and delivering a higher-then-expected total at the box office. Fede Alvarez's debut for the franchise, which takes Alien back to its horror roots, outpaced projections and earned more than $42 million at the box office here in the United States. It's definitely a win for the franchise and 20th Century, but how does that surprising opening compare to Romulus' predecessors?
Believe it or not, Alien: Romulus now has the honor of the second-best opening of the entire Alien franchise -- and that's after it already became the second-best reviewed movie in the series. Romulus' $42 million trails only 2012's Prometheus, which opened with $51 million more than a decade ago. That film had a lot of hype leading up to it, as it was Alien director Ridley Scott's return to the franchise.
That stat is a little padded against the first two films in the series -- Alien and Aliens -- which remain the most popular and acclaimed of the franchise. Neither of them opened in nearly as many theaters as the 3,000+ that the newer films in the series saw.
Alien vs. Predator and Alien: Covenant are actually the only other films in the series to open with more than $30 million domestically. AvP delivered a $38 million opening back in 2004, while Alien: Covenant secured $36 million in 2017.
After such a strong opening, Alien fans will obviously be wondering if Romulus has opened the door for another entry into the franchise.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Alvarez was asked about a potential Romulus sequel. While it wasn't on the forefront of his mind during the film, he definitely thought about ways the story could be extended after the fact.
"Yes, I definitely can. We tend to do that naturally, not even thinking about sequels. For us, movies have not become franchises, tentpoles, and sequels," the director said. "This is a language that I've only learned in the last ten years of my life working here. For me, it's always been about story. So, once we finished, we started thinking, 'What do you think happens when or if they get to your Yvaga? Is it going to be great? Or is it a terrible place?' We tend to believe it's probably a terrible place that they think is great and fantasize about, so we naturally started thinking about where it goes and what's going to happen. And then, a few minutes in, we go, 'Oh, that sounds like a sequel.'"
A reimagining of the 1997 horror film Anaconda is in the works and Jack Black and Paul Rudd are in early talks to star. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is being co-written and directed by Tom Gormican, who previously directed Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. There aren't a lot of details on the new project, though the report indicates that the story would involve a group of friends dealing with mid-life crises remaking a favorite movie from their youth who head to the rainforest only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against all manner of horrors, including violent criminals, natural disasters and, of course, giant snakes.
Per the report, it was unclear who Rudd and Black would play with some reports indicating that Black would play the director, a man working in a job as a wedding videographer while Rudd would play an actor seeing his Hollywood dreams fading though other reports indicated the opposite. The Anaconda reimagining has been in discussion since 2023 with the project reportedly going through various rewrites. It's also worth noting that an Anaconda reboot was reported to be in the works back in 2020 from Evan Daugherty, who previously wrote Snow White and the Huntsman.
Released in 1997, the original Anaconda was directed by Luis Llosa and starred Ice Cube, Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, and Owen Wilson. The film followed a documentary film crew who go to the Amazon rainforest looking for the world's largest and most lethal snake, the legendary green anaconda. The film wasn't exactly a hit with critics. It didn't perform particularly well at the box office, but did go on to be a cult classic and ultimately spawned a franchise including Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004), Anaconda 3: Offspring (2008), Anacondas: Trail of Blood (2009), and Lake Placid vs. Anaconda (2015). The latter film was a crossover with the Lake Placid series about a group of researchers discovering a monstrous crocodile was living in a remote Maine lake.
Black most recently appeared in Borderlands and Kung Fu Panda 4. He is set to appear in the upcoming Minecraft movie. Rudd most recently appeared in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and is set to appear in Death of a Unicorn.

]]>One of the points of discussion audiences have had since Alien: Romulus landed in theaters last week centered around Isabela Merced's character Kay and who the father of her baby might have been. Director Fede ?lvarez saw these discussions unfolding on a thread on Reddit and even took to the platform himself to confirm one of the theories about the movie, but in doing so, was inadvertently banned by the moderators, largely due to their surprise that the filmmaker had entered the discussion. The moderators confirmed that ?lvarez's ban was lifted after he revealed the news on Twitter. Alien: Romulus is in theaters now.
WARNING: Spoilers below for Alien: Romulus
Audiences learn early on in Romulus that Kay was pregnant, and when asked about the identity of the father, she claimed it was an unidentified "jerk" who seemingly had no impact on the plot. Later on in the film, Bjorn (Spike Fearn) expresses a moment of tenderness towards Kay, igniting theories that he was the father of Kay's baby.
"I watched the movie yesterday in IMAX and loved it! Incredible experience, incredible movie," the comment on Reddit reads. "Right before Bjorn's death, he and Kay share a moment where they touch each other in a very intimate way. Am I the only one who thought this was a sign that Bjorn is the 'jerk' who got her pregnant?"
A user named "fedalvar" then chimed in to confirm, "Yes he is. Good catch!"
Understandably, many fans assumed this was someone merely pretending to be the director, only for ?lvarez to show the email he received confirming he had been banned on Twitter.
"Got banned from the ALIEN subreddit for apparently trying to impersonate, myself," the filmmaker captioned the screenshot noting he was banned for "impersonation."
One reply to the post included a screenshot from a mod in which they posted, "...woops. LOL. Long story short, someone reported a Fede imposter, and I banned the account quickly. Fede of course was immediately reinstated and had a very friendly conversation with us. Awesome guy."
What's interesting about the confirmation that Bjorn was the father is that he and Kay are cousins, which opens up an entirely new batch of questions. For now, it's unclear if the characters were always meant to be cousins and this inter-family reproduction was more prevalent on this mining colony or if this scene was filmed before updates to the project that confirmed that connection.

Generally speaking, the Resident Evil series is one of the best franchises in all of gaming. There have been some games that are less enjoyable than others, and there have been some mediocre to bad adaptations. However, the overall quality of the series is hard to dispute. For those that have never played a Resident Evil game, there's a really great opportunity to experience what the series has to offer thanks to a new deal from Humble Bundle. The Resident Evil Decades of Horror Bundle allows buyers to spend $30 and get 11 games in the series, encompassing what's being described as "every mainline game." The bundle includes:
With the exception of Resident Evil 4, this list focuses on the more recent versions of the Resident Evil games, as opposed to the original versions. Of course, the original versions of Resident Evil 1-3 only recently got a re-release through GOG, so that's not too surprising. It should also be noted that this bundle is missing Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, so some fans might dispute the "every mainline game" description. Regardless, it's a fantastic deal for series newcomers, or fans that have these games on other platforms and now want to own them on Steam.
While the real highlight here is the $30 bundle, there are some cheaper options. For just $3, buyers can get Resident Evil, Resident Evil Revelations, and the first chapter of Resident Evil Revelations 2. $10 boosts the deal to include the full version of Resident Evil Revelations 2, as well as Resident Evil 0, 4, 5, and 6. At $20, the deal includes every game in the deal, with the exception of Resident Evil Village, so anyone that bought that game on Steam can save $10 and snag the rest.
Readers interested in taking advantage of this Humble Bundle deal can do so at the company's official website right here.
Are you planning on taking advantage of this Resident Evil franchise sale? Do you think this is a pretty good bargain for 11 games? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!
]]>Rick and Michonne are coming home. AMC announced that it will release The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live in a two-disc Blu-ray steelbook set, which contains all six episodes of the hit series reuniting Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). The RLJE Films release will be available to own on both Blu-ray and DVD and includes a limited-edition collectible CRM embroidered patch -- a replica of the Civic Republic Military consignee badge worn by Rick and Michonne on the Walking Dead spinoff -- exclusive to the steelbook version.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will make its disc debut on September 10th with special features, including a preview and the hour-long making-of AMC special Show Me More: The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. The Blu-ray steelbook (priced at $29.99) and the DVD version ($23.99) are available for pre-order on Amazon.
The Ones Who Live presents the epic love story of two iconic characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance, by an unimaginable power, and by the ghosts of who they once were, Rick (Lincoln) and Michonne (Gurira) are thrown into a dangerous new land, built on a war against the dead and ultimately, a war against the living. Despite new threats unlike they've ever seen, Rick and Michonne will stop at nothing to find each other and together, fight their way home.
Lincoln and Gurira co-created and executive produced the limited series with showrunner and Walking Dead Universe chief content officer Scott M. Gimple. Along with the long-awaited reunion between the couple -- who were separated when Rick was helicoptered away in season 9 of The Walking Dead in 2018 -- the spinoff featured the return of Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) and introduced new characters Pearl Thorne (Lesley-Ann Brandt), Lt. Col. Donald Okafor (Craig Tate), fan-favorite Nat (Matthew August Jeffers), and CRM Major General Beale (Terry O'Quinn).
The show's "Years" premiere set an all-time viewership record for streamer AMC+ and debuted as the #1 cable drama premiere of the 2023/2024 television season in key demos when the Rick-centric first episode aired in February on AMC and AMC+. The episode delivered nearly three million premiere night viewers in Nielsen live+3 ratings -- the biggest premiere night audience for a new AMC series since 2018.
All six episodes are currently available to stream on AMC+ and via Sky's NOW in the U.K.; The Ones Who Live will join other Walking Dead spinoffs on Netflix starting in January 2025.

]]>The Alien franchise is alive and well thanks to Alien: Romulus, which took in an impressive haul in its opening weekend at the box office, confirming that fans are just as invested in the series as they were since it first launched back in 1979. While the franchise has pivoted to comic books and video games to keep the excitement alive, Romulus marks the ninth live-action entry into the series, which includes two films that crossed over with the Predator franchise. Given that the series has jumped forward and backward in time over the years, Romulus director Fede ?lvarez recently confirmed he's already had some ideas of what he would want to explore in a follow-up, while James Cameron's Aliens is chronologically the next chapter. Alien: Romulus is in theaters now.
WARNING: Spoilers below for Alien: Romulus
The film follows Cailee Spaeny's Rain and David Jonsson's Andy attempting to leave their life on a mining colony behind, with those pursuits taking them to the Romulus/Remus space station, only for them and their crew to be attacked by monstrous beasts. Rain and Andy are the only two who survive the encounter, as the film concludes with them headed towards the planet Yvaga, leaving audiences to speculate if they make it safely and what life awaits them.
When asked by The Hollywood Reporter if he could pitch a sequel, ?lvarez confirmed, "Yes, I definitely can. We tend to do that naturally, not even thinking about sequels. For us, movies have not become franchises, tentpoles, and sequels. This is a language that I've only learned in the last ten years of my life working here.
Given that Sigourney Weaver's Ripley ended Alien thinking she would be rescued in her cryochamber, only for it to take the better part of a century to be recovered in Aliens, and that Aliens similarly ended with cryosleep as Alien 3 opened with her shipmates not surviving the journey, a lot can happen in between two films.
While some franchises churn out multiple entries every decade, ?lvarez emphasized that a Romulus sequel shoudn't be rushed.
"We really try to think about it more in terms of story and if it needs another chapter and whether people want to know what happens next," the director detailed. "So we'll wait to see what people think and if people ask for it. My philosophy is that you should never make [a sequel] in two years. You've got to get away. You've got to get the audience to really want it. If you think about Alien and Aliens, there's seven years between them. But we definitely have ideas about where it should go."
Alien: Romulus is in theaters now.

Tuesday, eagle-eyed fans noticed IMDb Vietnam was advertising the release of a new trailer on August 30th. In the ads teasing the trailer, Kesy's eponymous half-demon can be seen prominently in two big pictures.
One of the adverts includes a handful of stills from the movie, teasing just how dark and grim of a tone it's going to carry as compared to the previous two stabs at creating a Hellboy live-action franchise.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola has previously said Hellboy: The Crooked Man is the most comic-accurate take on the character yet, embracing the horrific Americana vibes of the source material.
"[My favorite thing was] to see how close it is to the comics. There are several shots in there that are panels from the comics and your fear is always, especially when you say it's gotta be my favorite story, that it's going to lose something," Mignola told Screen Rant at San Diego Comic-Con. "But all my favorite moments from the comic are in there. I mean, you're holding your breath as you're watching this. I actually got to watch, I didn't go on set, but I saw dailies, and you're just going, 'I can't believe this! Oh my God, you got it in there and is it going to stay in there when they cut the movie?'"
"Because there is a particular moment in the church that I loved so much. I thought, 'Are they going to add special effects to that?" It's just a quiet little moment. It could easily get cut, but it stayed all the way through," Mignola added. ""Not that I didn't like the other movies or love bits and pieces from the other movies, but it was just... I was so grateful to see somebody that really did want to put [them in there], because at some point everybody says, 'Oh yeah, we're going to put your comic on screen,' But this is the time that it happened."
Hellboy: The Crooked Man stars Jack Kesy in the titular role. Jefferson White, Adeline Rudolph, Joseph Marcell, Leah McNamara, Hannah Margetson, and Martin Bassindale will also star. Hellboy: The Crooked Man is produced by Millennium Films, and is set to be released by Ketchup Entertainment. Bryan Taylor, Mignola, and Christopher Golden co-wrote the script.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is set for release later this year.
The Crow reboot hits theaters this week, but while the film is revisiting a story familiar to fans of the 1994 film starring Brandon Lee -- a film that was itself an adaptation of the 1989 comic book of the same name -- there is one thing that Rupert Sanders' film is doing very differently. The new incarnation of The Crow banned real guns from the film's set. Speaking with Variety, Sanders explained that that they didn't have a single weapon that could have either live or blank rounds in them. Instead, they used Airsoft guns or simply rubber or metal decoys.
"Safety is a number one priority," Sanders said. "Film sets are very dangerous. There are fast moving cars with cranes stuck on the top. There are stunt guys falling on high wires down steps. Even just walking around a set at night with rain machines and lights -- you're working in an industrial environment. So, it's dangerous. You have to be safe. The first day I met with the special effects department and the armorer, who was great, in Prague. They were very safety conscious. They follow all the same guidelines as the military when dealing with weapons, but I didn't even want to risk that."
He continued, "So, I said, categorically, 'We will have no firing weapons on set,' which means we didn't have one gun that could have had a live round or a blank round anywhere near it ever, so that no projectile could go in. They're all Airsoft guns, and some of them are just rubber or metal decoys that are functional but have no firing mechanism."
The use of non-firing weapons on the set of The Crow is significant for a few reasons. Not only does this come in the aftermath of the 2021 shooting on the set of Rust which resulted in death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, but The Crow has a tragic history with guns itself. During the production of 1994's The Crow, star Brandon Lee was accidentally shot and killed on set. Sanders went on to explain that, while using Airsoft weapons instead of real weapons was more expensive, it's an expense he feels was worth it.
"The beauty of the Airsoft is that the slide on a Glock will still move back, but then you have to add the shell casing," he said. "You have to add a muzzle flash and smoke, but that was a price worth paying. It took a fair bit of money out of my very limited visual effects budget, but I think it was worth it. The visual effects on this movie were very much in-camera. We were mainly a location shoot with set extension. So, you have to balance where you spend the money when you don't have a massive budget to do visual effects. But to me, that was a very worthwhile spend for everyone's safety and comfort going into this project."
Per the synopsis, "Soulmates Eric (Bill Skarsg?rd) and Shelly (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them.
The Crow opens in theaters August 23rd.
]]>Warner Brothers settled increasing uncertainty Tuesday, revealing it would release Salem's Lot after all. Originally meant as a theatrical release, it was revealed late last year the film was being bumped to Max. Then, with no news at all being released, fans of the Stephen King classic found themselves worried given the studio's process of vaulting finished films to use them as tax writeoffs.
Ahead of a teaser or full-length trailer, the Lewis Pullman vehicle found itself the subject of an extensive Vanity Fair profile on Tuesday, where the film's first look images were released.

Although the film is going straight to streaming, director Gary Dauberman says it evokes the feeling of a drive-in creature feature.
"It's this crazy sugar-high of a scene. I thought, 'Yeah, this is what this is. This is a drive-in movie,'" Dauberman told the magazine of a scene largely inspired by the first-edition cover of King's novel. "As with most horror movies, I think audiences really elevate the experience. So I think getting as many people as you can cram on the couch would be my preferred way to watch this."
Dauberman directs from a script he wrote while the picture is produced by James Wan's Atomic Monster. The film is set to star Lewis Pullman in the picture's lead role. Other Salem's Lot cast members that have been confirmed include Makenzie Leigh (Gotham, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk) as Susan Norton, Alfre Woodard (Marvel's Luke Cage) as Dr. Cody, Bill Camp (Joker) as Matthew Burke, Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones) as Richard Straker, Jordan Preston Carter (DMZ) as Mark Petrie, Spencer Treat Clark (Unbreakable) as Mike Ryerson, plus John Benjamin Hickey (Gossip Girl) as Father Callahan, with Nicholas Crovetti (Big Little Lies) as Danny Glick, and Cade Woodward as Ralph Glick.
Salem's Lot is set to hit Max this October. The original two-part series can be rented wherever movies are sold.
]]>Director Fede ?lvarez has delivered audiences some truly horrifying sequences in his career, which is exactly why he delivered such grotesque sequences in the recently released Alien: Romulus. Specifically, the final scenes of the film take the terror to new heights, resulting in those sequences being some of the most talked-about sections of the film. ?lvarez recently confirmed that even when execs at The Walt Disney Company just read what he was planning on unleashing, they questioned if it was necessary to push those limits so far, which ultimately inspired him to go even further. Alien: Romulus is in theaters now.
WARNING: Spoilers below for Alien: Romulus
After being fatally injured, Kay (Isabella Merced) injects herself with alien DNA which she expected would heal her. Instead, this modifies her own DNA and she then passes this genetic material to her unborn baby, which ultimately explodes out of her and grows to be a monstrous human/xenomorph hybrid, credited as the "Offspring." As if this wasn't monstrous enough, Kay begins lactating a black goo to provide sustenance for her Offspring.
"If I give you a script and you read it and go, 'Let's do it!' then I feel like I failed. I need the studio to go, 'Are you sure about this? Do you really want to do that?' This is what happens with me and the studios on each one of my movies," ?lvarez shared with The Hollywood Reporter. "They asked me about many things in Don't Breathe and the blood rain in Evil Dead and were like, 'How can we even do that? How are we going to do all that stuff?' So when I get pushback, that's really when I go, 'Okay, that's good. We're on track. The studio is pushing back on it.' And they did [push back] at the beginning [with regard to the Offspring], but not because they didn't like it."
He continued, "They just thought, 'Is it too much? Do we really have to go there?' And I was like, 'Yeah, now that you said that we shouldn't, I know that I will.' So that's exactly what we did here. If you're given an Alien movie by a corporation that is owned by Disney and they immediately say, 'Yeah, let's make it,' then you are failing somehow. So we really pushed it to the limit, and I'm glad we did."
Interestingly, even those who weren't entirely familiar with ?lvarez's work might have anticipated the movie offering up one last sequence of terror, which has become baked into the formula of most Alien installments.
"All my movies have a fourth act. It's the way we write. There's a moment where the movie feels like it's over, and then there's a fourth act, which is fitting because Alien has a fourth act as well," the director pointed out. "You could even argue that Aliens has a bit of a fourth act with its last set piece. It's when you think it's all done and the movie could have ended, but it just gives you a last set piece that tends to go to really extreme places."
Alien: Romulus is in theaters now.
