More episodes of Unsolved Mysteries will be arriving on Netflix right in time for the spookiest of holidays. Monday, it was revealed the true crime docuseries will add its next batch of episodes at some point in October, although an exact date has yet to be announced. As it stands now, there are currently 26 episodes of the show's revival currently available for streaming on the service.

"Unsolved Mysteries continues to resonate with viewers in ways we could never have imagined, with some episodes leading to solving cases that were once thought unsolvable," Unsolved Mysteries producer Shawn Levy offered in a statement. "It is a privilege to collaborate with Terry Dunn Meurer and her team on this iconic franchise, and we are so excited to share this next installment of compelling and fascinating mysteries with viewers around the world."

The latest batch of episodes was dropped on Netflix on July 31st. When we spoke to series lead Terry Dunn Meurer in 2022, she stressed the importance of the show in helping solve years-old cases.

"I would say that there are a lot more people who get more deeply involved in some of these cases. With the Netflix series, we know that there's a lot of viewers that do a deep dive and they go into social media," Meurer shared with ComicBook at the time. "I think, as well as for the podcast, people want to know more, and so now they have the opportunity to know more. So when they have the opportunity to know more, they do more digging and then they come up with their own theories and then they communicate with other people who are interested in that particular case. I just think there's more communication than there used to be. When we were just on NBC, the show would air once. You couldn't rewind, look at any clue, you couldn't look at anything. The next time you were going to see that episode was going to be if it reran in the summer. Now you can see all the old shows, they're streaming on various platforms. So it's changed."

She added, "There'd be the stories that you talked about the next day, but you couldn't do the deep dive into the research and the details and see what else you could dig up. People are just more involved, and I think the more people get involved in trying to solve mysteries and trying to analyze these cases, I think that just creates more interest in them, it feeds the beast. Many people say, 'Oh, God, let's give the viewers out there what they're looking for. Let's give them more true crime.' But we don't think of ourselves, I mean, yes, we do crime stories, of course, but we do think of ourselves as a mystery story."

The first four volumes of Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries relaunch are now streaming on the service.

Orphan Black: Echoes Season 2 Gets New Update From Showrunner https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/orphan-black-echoes-season-2-update-showrunner/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 03:53:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 342a6f69-8854-4efc-b3b8-cc007a62899a

This past Sunday brought the Season 1 finale of Orphan Black: Echoes, the buzzy new spinoff to the beloved and Emmy-winning series Orphan Black. At the time of this writing, Echoes has yet to be renewed for a sophomore season, which has worried some viewers after the shocking events of the Season 1 finale -- but apparently, there's still hope for more. In a recent interview with TVLine, Echoes showrunner Anna Fishko confirmed that the series has not been cancelled, and that conversations surrounding more episodes are still "ongoing."

"We're really hoping for a Season 2," Fishko revealed. "It's definitely on the table and a conversation that's ongoing with AMC."

What Is Orphan Black: Echoes About?

Orphan Black: Echoes follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other's lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unraveling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal. Ritter will star as Lucy, a woman who has an unimaginable origin story and is trying to find her place in the world.

Fishko serves as showrunner and writer of Orphan Black: Echoes, while series co-creator John Fawcett will return as an executive producer and director. The series also stars Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Rya Kihlstedt, and Avon Jogia.

Why Is Tatiana Maslany Not in Orphan Black: Echoes?

As Fishko revealed in the same interview, there were previously plans to have Orphan Black series star Tatiana Maslany reprise her role as one of the Leda clones in Echoes' first season, but the cameo did not come to fruition. While it's unclear at this point which of the clones Maslany would have portrayed, scheduling conflicts caused by the actress starring in AMC's now-scrapped adaptation of Invitation to a Bonfire ultimately prevented it.

"Yeah, she was," Fishko revealed. "We talked about it a lot actually. We had a whole episode set aside for her in the back half of the season, but it just didn't work out in terms of schedule. Unfortunately she was shooting at exactly the same time we were shooting and we just couldn't make it work out."

"We'd still love to have Tatiana come back," Fishko added. "If we could bring one of the original sister clones back, I think that would be fun and we'd love to do it. So maybe in a second season, the stars would align in terms of scheduling. That would be really great."

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes is available to stream exclusively on AMC+.

Orphan Black: Echoes Showrunner Explains Why Tatiana Maslany Didn't Cameo in Season 1 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/orphan-black-echoes-showrunner-why-tatiana-maslany-cameo-season-1/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 03:38:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson b18f5771-f770-4a1d-a363-841d220b0eaa

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes came to a close on Sunday, after ten episodes that challenged fans' expectations. The series, which is set decades after the events of the BBC America series Orphan Black, largely presented a new cloning conspiracy, but with some interesting connections to its flagship show. While the first season of Echoes does include appearances from Orphan Black fan-favorites Felix Dawkins (Jordan Gavaris) and Delphine Cormier (Evelyne Brochu), and references to Leda clones like Sarah Manning and Cosima Niehaus, Tatiana Maslany does not appear in any of her many roles. But as a new interview with Orphan Black: Echoes showrunner Anna Fishko reveals, there was an attempt to bring Maslany into the fold of the spinoff. In a recent interview with TVLine, Fishko confirmed that Maslany was approached to reprise her role as one of the Leda clones in Echoes' first season, but scheduling conflicts caused by the actress starring in AMC's now-scrapped adaptation of Invitation to a Bonfire prevented her from appearing.

Wednesday: Jenna Ortega Reveals What She Stole From Netflix Set https://comicbook.com/horror/news/wednesday-jenna-ortega-reveals-she-stole-from-set/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 01:25:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt bf872440-7a99-4f97-ad22-d99adc4ad351

When it comes to streaming properties, the actors on each respective show spend a significant amount of time on set. That's why it only makes sense if they happen to take something prior to the end of filming. In the long line of actors who've stolen things from the set of the show they've appeared on, you can include Jenna Ortega. In a new interview with BuzzFeed, the Wednesday star revealed she took a very specific piece of art from the of the Addams Family reimagining.

"On Wednesday, I stole a poster of the monster. There was a character who had all these sketches of the monster, so I kept one of those and put it in a nice little frame," the actress told the website. "I was actually talking about this yesterday, but the one thing I was so upset I didn't take was probably one of the Handbooks for the Recently Deceased, just because they are actual books so that when you actually go through them, there are graphics and text and stuff. The prop team killed it."

What's Wednesday Season 2 about?

Little has been unveiled about the sophomore outing for Wednesday, although Ortega admits she was initially "terrified" to return to the show.

"I was a little terrified just because it had been years since Wednesday, since we shot the first one. We did that like two or three years ago in Romania," Ortega said on the Tonight Show earlier this month. "So, I didn't really know how I... I just was, I think, overthinking it. But as soon as you put on the costumes by Colleen Atwood, you get hair and makeup done, and then you take all the expression out of your face, it's like, 'Oh, okay. I kind of, I know how to do this. Yeah. Yeah.'"

"I get to decide like how blue somebody's gonna be, or where the brains go on the floor, what prosthetics look like," she added of her new producer role. "It's so exciting. It's so much fun, actually."

Wednesday Season Two is expected to be released on Netflix at some point in 2025. The first season of the show is now available to stream on the service.

Game of Thrones Star Emilia Clarke Joins Peacock Thriller Series Ponies https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/game-of-thrones-star-emilia-clarke-peacock-thriller-series-ponies/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 01:21:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 3c9a0b94-fdb4-4672-b0ea-f20346051da4

After years of playing Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's hit Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke has officially landed her latest television gig. On Monday, it was announced that Clarke will both star in and executive produce Ponies, a new live-action espionage thriller that was just given a straight-to-series order by Peacock. This marks the latest television role landed by Clarke, after it was announced earlier this year that she will portray Mallory in Prime Video's adaptation of Image Comics' Criminal series.

Ponies is co-created by Susanna Fogel (The Flight Attendant, The Spy Who Dumped Me) and David Iserson (Mr. Robot, New Girl). Fogel serves as executive producer, director, and co-writer on the series, while Iserson serves as co-writer and showrunner.

What Is Ponies About?

Ponies is set in Moscow, 1977. Two "PONIES" ("persons of no interest" in intelligence speak) work anonymously as secretaries in the American Embassy. That is until their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR, and the pair become CIA operatives. Bea (Emilia Clarke) is an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants. Her cohort, Twila, is a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless. Together, they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place.

Executive producers on Ponies also include Jessica Rhoades (Black Mirror, Station Eleven, Dirty John), with Alison Mo Massey and Katherine Bridle serving as co-executive producers.

Will Emilia Clarke Return to the MCU?

One of Clarke's most recent television appearances was on Secret Invasion, the Marvel Studios series that premiered on Disney+ in the summer of 2023. Clarke's character, the Skrull G'iah, ended the events of the series with a massive array of other superheroes' powers, which has naturally begged the question of if and when we could see her in the franchise again. As Secret Invasion director Ali Selim argued at the time, there wouldn't necessarily be a guarantee that G'iah would reemerge in the MCU, so his priority was resolving her individual story.

"For me, the Olivia Colman/Emilia Clarke, Sonya/G'iah moment at the end, I think it does set up something really potentially interesting," Selim revealed to The Wrap. "But I think it's also a lovely resolution to the story. And if they never show up in the MCU again, I feel fulfilled."

One Ted Lasso Star May Not to Return for Season 4 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/ted-lasso-season-4-cast-phil-dunster-jamie/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 23:31:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely d07ef731-abb4-42df-93ef-522a66d9263a

Fans of Ted Lasso received a wonderful and surprising bit of news over the weekend, as it was revealed that three of the show's series regulars had their contracts picked up for a fourth installment. Since the series seemingly ended last year, there have been a ton of questions as to whether or not it would find a way to move forward, perhaps following a different story. With stars Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift now picked up for a new installment of the show, the wait begins to see if Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. Television will actually get the band back together and move forward.

That initial report indicated that the three actors whose options were picked up were all part of the UK acting union Equity, which is different than the American SAG-AFTRA. So that's why stars like Jason Sudeikis, Brendant Hunt, and Juno Temple weren't included in that first wave. Another missing name was Phil Dunster, who played fan-favorite footballer Jamie Tartt, but it appears he may not be able to star in the fourth season of Ted Lasso, should it happen.

According to Puck News' Matthew Belloni, Dunster won't be able to return to Ted Lasso as a series regular at this time, given his commitments to other shows like Surface and The Devil's Hour. Belloni suggested that he could pop up in a guest starring or recurring capacity, but that a full-time return currently seems off the table.

There's no telling what a fourth season of Ted Lasso would look like, especially since the third season delivered what felt like an ending for Sudeikis' title character and sent him back across the pond. If Ted stays in America and the show focuses on the rest of the Richmond AFC crew working through another football season, it would be even more difficult to see Jamie go.

Goldstein and Waddingham returning are great signs, though, given their prominence in the story and their prowess during awards season. Both of them won Emmys for their work on Ted Lasso, and their characters are arguably at the forefront of any story that could potentially be told at Richmond. Waddingham's Rebecca is the owner of the entire club, while Goldstein's Roy Kent took over as the team manager at the end of Season 3, following Ted's departure.

Nothing is official yet, but the new installment of Ted Lasso could start filming early next year.

Dandadan Creator Shares Their Goal for the Series' Future https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dandadan-manga-future-goal-anime/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 23:18:00 +0000 Megan Peters 0a2ee103-2d60-4f80-8fe6-f05248543ebe

Are you ready for Dandadan to become your next big obsession. This fall, the anime fandom will turn its eyes to the supernatural series all thanks to Science Saru. The team will bring Dandadan to life on screen with an anime shortly, and as its premiere comes closer, all eyes are on its manga. Yukinobu Tatsu is about to have his story reach a new audience, and in a recent interview, the creator went on to share his goals for the future of Dandadan.

The interview, which was posted in Japan to usher in the anime, poses a slew of questions to Tatsu. At one point, the artist is asked about his goals for Dandadan as the series moves forward, and it was there Tatsu admitted he wants to keep fans on their toes.

"I want to continue to add new expressions [to the series]. New things that will make people say, 'I've never seen this before' or 'That makes me laugh'," he shared.

Of course, Dandadan is very good at surprising its readers. Released in April 2021, the action rom-com has all the parts of a hit anime. From its colorful leads to its insane battles and layered lore, Dandadan has its bases covered. We have seen our heroes Momo and and Ken grow bounds since we first met them, but they still find ways to surprise fans. Their wild character arcs pair perfectly with Tatsu's detailed artwork. It would not be a stretch to say Dandadan has some of the best artwork under Shonen Jump these days, and as the manga continues, fans can expect that aesthetic to become even more impressive.

If you have not checked out Dandadan ahead of its anime's October launch, you can find the series easily enough. Tatsu's manga is available on the Shonen Jump app. So for those wanting more info on Dandadan, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Momo Ayase strikes up an unusual friendship with her school's UFO fanatic, whom she nicknames "Okarun" because he has a name that is not to be said aloud. While Momo believes in spirits, she thinks aliens are nothing but nonsense. Her new friend, meanwhile, thinks the exact opposite. To settle matters, the two set out to prove each other wrong-Momo to a UFO hotspot and Okarun to a haunted tunnel! What unfolds next is a beautiful story of young love...and oddly horny aliens and spirits?"

Netflix's One Piece Has Allegedly Found Its Bartolomeo https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-netflix-season-2-bartolomeo-actor/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 22:19:00 +0000 Megan Peters b54c26ae-52a5-4516-879c-24588c17673d

Netflix's One Piece is deep into production on season two, and as you can imagine, fans are eager to see what the show will offer with its return. We know the live-action adaptation has big plans on season two as some big story beats are coming. From Loguetown to Drum Island, Netflix's One Piece has some big places and people to introduce. So if a new report is right, it seems the anime just found its very own Bartolomeo.

Yes, that's right. We said Bartolomeo. The character may not become a major player in One Piece until Dressrosa, but if you will recall, the pirate appears in Loguetown for a hot minute.

As for this new report, the casting update comes from the One Piece Live Action channel on Discord. The community, which has successfully sussed out casting info before, put its focus on Bartolomeo this week. If the team there is right, actor Nahum Hughes will bring Bartoloemeo to life, and the discovery came courtesy of a now-deleted CV.

Of course, the team at Netflix has not given any word on this One Piece casting. We do know for sure One Piece season two will bring Loguetown to life, but beyond that, the show has kept mum on its story beats. Bartolomeo's role in the arc is pretty minimal, but fans know the arc sets up an important arc for the pirate.

After all, Bartolomeo is perhaps the biggest Luffy fan on the Grand Line. When we find the pirate in Dressrosa, Bartolomeo is obsessed with Luffy, and this adoration began in Loguetown. The green-haired pirate sees how Luffy deals with the Marines in Loguetown, and the rest is history. There is a chance Netflix could expand the pirate's role in season two as the adaptation does diverge from the original manga in its own ways. But for now, we will have to wait and see how Netflix's One Piece shakes out.

If you are eager to check out One Piece, you are in luck. Netflix not only has the live-action adaptation on lock, but it is streaming the original anime as well. So for those wanting more info on One Piece, you can read up on its official synopsis below:

"As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

What do you think about this latest One Piece rumor? Are you excited for Netflix to drop season two? Let us know what you think over on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Everybody Still Hates Chris Premiere Date Announced With First Look https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/everybody-still-hates-chris-premiere-date-first-look-animated-series/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 20:55:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo eba31d33-7a75-438a-a222-2c06688ee8a4

15 years after the sitcom about Chris Rock's childhood ended its four-season run on The CW, Everybody Still Hates Chris. Comedy Central announced Monday that the adult animated series -- a revival of the Rock-narrated Everybody Hates Chris, which starred Tyler James Williams in the title role -- will premiere Wednesday, September 25th at 10pm ET/PT. Rock is executive producing and will voice "Adult Chris," who narrates the life story of his teenage self (voiced by Saturday and Fright Krewe's Tim Johnson Jr., replacing Williams) and his experience growing up as a skinny nerd in a working-class family in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, during the late 1980s.

The network also shared a first-look image, below, revealing a similar animation style to Star Trek: Lower Decks (both series are produced by CBS Eye Animation Productions and animated by Titmouse).

everybody-still-hates-chris-first-look.jpg

Original series stars Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold reprise their roles as Chris' parents. His father, Julius, is a gentle giant with a relentless work ethic, and tightwad approach to life. He grew up dirt poor, so he knows the cost of everything down to the penny. He works two jobs to support the family, and on his days off, he takes on a third job. Chris' mother, Rochelle, is smart, strong-willed, and has a nurturing spirit -- but she can also be hot-headed, especially when it comes to her kids. She tolerates zero nonsense, so she quits more jobs in a month than most people do in a lifetime.

The cast includes Ozioma Akagha (Teen Titans Go!) as Chris' feisty baby sister, Tonya, with the face of an angel and the heart of a demon, who gets along with her middle brother Drew but leaps at any chance to get Chris in trouble; Terrence Little Gardenhigh (Danger Force) voices Chris' younger brother, the golden child of the family who is the epitome of Black Excellence: handsome, athletic, a ladies man, taller and cooler than his older brother Chris; and Gunnar Sizemore (Kung Fu Panda) voices Greg, Chris's only friend at school who is girl-obsessed, status conscious and raised by a single dad.

Rock serves as executive producer via Chris Rock Enterprises with showrunner Sanjay Shah (Central Park), Everybody Hates Chris co-creator Ali LeRoi, and Michael Rotenberg (Beavis and Butt-Head) and Dave Becky (Duncanville) of 3 Arts Entertainment. Chris Prynoski (Star Trek: Lower Decks), Shannon Prynoski (Big Mouth), Antonio Canobbio (Royal Crackers), and Ben Kalina (Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart) executive produce for Titmouse, the animation studio behind Big Mouth and the Animaniacs and Beavis and Butt-Head revivals.

Everybody Still Hates Chris premieres Sept. 25th on Comedy Central and will be available to stream on Paramount+.

Ranma 1/2 Shares New Poster, Trailer Ahead of Premiere: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/ranma-12-anime-new-trailer-poster/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 20:51:00 +0000 Megan Peters 916cee92-73c2-4fab-99f7-109210189271

It has been a long time coming, but at last, Ranma 1/2 is gearing up for its return. If you did not realize, it has been more than 30 years since Rumiko Takahashi's gender-bending series came to life on the small screen. Now, the team at MAPPA Studios is set to bring Ranma 1/2 to life on Netflix this fall, and we've been given a new trailer teasing the debut.

As you can see below, the new trailer for Ranma 1/2 is out, and we have director Konosuke Uda to thank for piecing together the project. MAPPA Studios came together to give a fresh take on Takahashi's hit manga, and of course, this is far from the only revival tied to the award-winning artist. It wasn't long ago that Urusei Yatsura make its return to television, and the anime revival helped introduce the series to a new generation.

Now, Ranma 1/2 is gearing up for its big comeback, and it looks better than we could have imagined. And of course, the anime is already working out merchandising ahead of its October launch. The team at Viz Media has confirmed it has secured merchandise rights to Ranma 1/2, and some of those pieces will be appearing at Hot Topic. So if you want to show your love to Takahashi, well - why not wear it?

If you are not familiar with Ranma 1/2, the manga debuted under Shogakukan in August 1987, and it remains one of the artist's most popular titles to date. The rom-com blends hilarious hijinks with martial arts action in the best way. For those wanting more info on Ranma 1/2 ahead of its October 5 premiere, no sweat. The manga is handled by Viz Media in English, and for more info on the series, you can read its official synopsis below:

Doctor Who Reveals First Look at Spinoff The War Between the Land and the Sea https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/doctor-who-the-war-between-the-land-and-the-sea-spinoff-first-look/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:37:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 26409d00-80db-4f50-bfdb-9775cb853e4d

Doctor Who fans can check out the first look at the new spinoff series The War Between the Land and the Sea. The five-part series was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con by Russell T Davies during the Doctor Who panel, where we also got the cast list headlined by Russell Tovey (Years And Years, American Horror Story: NYC) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki, Surface). While eagle-eyed Whovians recognize both from previous appearances, Davies confirmed they'll be playing brand-new characters. With Doctor Who excitement at an all-time high, it's now time to see what The War Between the Land and the Sea has to offer.

The official Doctor Who website revealed a photo of the Sea Devils, who are the primary antagonist of The War Between the Land and the Sea. The amphibious reptilian humanoids made their first appearance in 1972 when they faced the Third Doctor. The Doctor Who spinoff gets its title when the Sea Devils leave the oceans and cause an international incident, causing UNIT to step in. We also got to see the full cast, which includes Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient reprising their roles in Doctor Who as UNIT's Chief Scientific Officer Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, respectively. Additional cast includes Ruth Madeley, returning in her role from the 60th Anniversary specials as UNIT Scientific Advisor Shirley-Anne Bingham; and Colin McFarlane, reprising his role as General Austin Pierce from Torchwood: Children of Earth.

"This is not Midshipman Frame teaming up with Tish Jones - which I would write actually, why not?" Davies joked. "Big Finish can do that."

What is The War Between the Land and the Sea about?

When a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT step into action as the land and sea wage war.

Production on The War Between the Land and the Sea is already underway, with the cast taking part in a script reading on August 19th. It's written by Russell T Davies and Pete McTighe (A Discovery of Witches, The Pact, Doctor Who).

"There's a race that lives beneath the oceans - they wake up, and they see the state of the oceans, that we have put it in," Russell T Davies explained. "We have wrecked the place, and it is war - war on an epic scale."

Rick and Morty: The Anime Posts Episode 3 Sneak Peek https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-the-anime-posts-episode-3-sneak-peek/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:37:00 +0000 Megan Peters 55fa9492-bd49-4e95-8cad-a51be5b2789e

Rick and Morty: The Anime is here at last, and the wild series is gearing up for its next episode. Following its impressive premiere, all eyes are on Rick and Morty as its third episode is on the horizon. "Alien Elle" is around the corner, and we have been given a first look at the update thanks to its first promo.

As you can see below, the teaser for Rick and Morty: The Anime follows our stars as they face an alien invasion. The clip begins with Morty warning his grandfather of the impending attack, but as usual, Rick is barely phased. The scientist is too busy working on some experiment to bother with the aliens, but the same cannot be said for the army.

After all, the teaser moves to the alien invaders as they land on Rick's home, and things get unhinged from there. The robotic aliens are ready to attack, but Rick is not having anything to do with it. He tells the guests he doesn't have time for their shtick, so you can bet Rick has something up his sleeve to counter the aliens.

If you are not familiar with Rick and Morty: The Anime, you have time to catch up on the show. The original series comes courtesy of Studio Deen, Sola Entertainment, and Telecom Animation Film. Made for Adult Swim, the anime is a continuation of the Rick and Morty anime shorts created by Takashi Sano a few years back. This episodic anime is tucked within the original show's canon as Rick and Morty: The Anime takes place between seasons five and six. Yellowstone Sequel Series The Madison Casts Lost Star Matthew Fox https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/yellowstone-sequel-series-the-madison-cast-matthew-fox/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 19:31:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 2052241b-e6ff-49a2-befd-627d7bcd69c1

The Yellowstone sequel series The Madison is still taking big steps forward, with the latest update being LOST star Matthew Fox joining the cast. Fox will play a character named "Paul" who is described as being a "self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors," but given Fox's past roles, there's more likely a darker (or more complex) character behind that initial description. Matthew Fox joins lead actors Michelle Pfeiffer and Patrick J. Adams (Suits), who were previously announced for the show - as well as co-stars Elle Chapman (A Man Called Otto) and Beau Garrett (The Good Doctor).

The plot of The Madison has been described as "a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana." It's been kept intentionally vague, as the original Yellowstone series still has to wrap its final stretch of episodes this fall. While there has been no official confirmation from Paramount or Yellowstone creator Tayor Sheridan, speculation and details like a working title of "2024" have pointed at the sequel series indeed being set after the events of the current series.

There has been no information given about who Michelle Pfeiffer is playing in The Madison, which could mean it's a role that (again) could have a significant connection to the ending of Yellowstone. In the case of Patrick J. Adams, we got the vague character description that he will be playing a man named Russell McIntosh, "who has followed the life path set before him from the start."

(MILD SPOILERS) The finale of Yellowstone Season 5 (Part I) aired back in November of 2022. The Dutton Family was officially coming apart at the seams, as Patriarch John Dutton III (Kevin Costner) tried to hold onto his power as Governor of Montana, even though his adopted son Jamie (Wes Bentley) schemed to supplant him in the Governor's office. Caught in the middle, John's daughter Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) tried to push her father into murdering her brother - while Jamie looked to hiring professional killers to take out his family.

However it plays out, it already seems like the Dutton Family is headed for a tragic fall of Shakespearean proportions, which could be exactly the kind of "grief" mentioned in the synopsis for The Madison - or perhaps the downfall of the Duttons has more to do with that "human connection" between the Dutton's and these new characters.

Yellowstone Season 5 - Part 2 will premiere on November 10th on Paramount Network.

Big Little Lies Star Zoë Kravitz Is "Waiting by the Phone" for Season 3 Updates https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/big-little-lies-season-3-zoe-kravitz-reaction-update-status-hbo/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 18:47:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 70bbb371-3142-4c57-bef8-e70ce6095425

Stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman have been the most vocal figures connected to Big Little Lies about the status of Season 3, with Zo? Kravitz now confirming that she's just as in the dark about the series, though that she's excited to learn more about what would be in store for her character Bonnie. While all of the characters struggled with the events of the first two seasons, taking part in an inadvertent murder and then lying about it arguably took the biggest toll on Bonnie, as Season 2 concluded with some major implications about her character's future.

"I'm waiting to see, like everybody else, the third season that's happening ... waiting by the phone, waiting for the script to be done," Kravitz confirmed to PEOPLE, while noting that she knows "nothing" about what's to come but that she's "excited to do it."

The first season was based on the Liane Moriarty novel of the same name, chronicling a variety of interpersonal scandals unfolding in an affluent community in Northern California. The season culminated with the reveal that Alexander Skarsg?rd's Perry Wright had sexually assaulted and impregnated Shailene Woodley's Jane Chapman, with Perry also having been abusing his wife Celeste (Nicole Kidman). Jane, Celeste, Bonnie, Madeline Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon), and Renata Klein (Laura Dern) had an impromptu confrontation with Perry, resulting in his death.

The group of friends agreed to lie about the situation to claim Perry's death was an accident, as Season 2 introduced Meryl Streep's Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry. The coverup of the death weighed on Bonnie the whole season, which was amplified by her mother having health struggles, as the Season 2 finale ended with Bonnie seemingly leaving her husband to turn herself into authorities. The final moments saw Bonnie joined by all of her friends walking into the police station with her, leaving fans to speculate about what would happen to this group of friends.

When asked about what she thought could be next for her character, Kravitz teased, "Good question. I think Bonnie's divorced -- that's good for her."

One of the last updates about the project came this past June from Kidman.

"But we are [working on it] now!" Kidman teased to Vanity Fair. "We're moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book. We're in good shape."

Stay tuned for updates on a possible Season 3 of Big Little Lies.

Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 2 First Look Released by Netflix https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/emily-in-paris-season-4-part-2-first-look-released-by-netflix/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 15:31:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame ebaeb998-2558-4666-b1ff-1bac1b0ce5d8

Netflix has released a trailer for season four, part two, of their hit romantic comedy Emily in Paris. The fourth season picked up on August 15th after the bombshell that was the season three finale -- and shows that in spite of the opportunity that opened up at the end of that season, Emily (Lily Collins) isn't with Gabriel or Alfie at this point. The first trailer, which debuted earlier this month, showed Emily in the park, telling her friend Mindy (Ashley Park) about all the attractive men she saw on her run. In the new "first look" trailer for part two, due out in September, Emily has everything she wants -- but is it what she needs? From skiing in the French Alps to taking a Roman holiday, she's ready for her next adventure.

As is the Netflix custom, the season will be split into two parts. This time around, they'll release only a month apart, with each half consisting of five episodes. You can see the trailer below.

Here's Netflix's official synopsis for the show:

After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel's misbegotten wedding, Emily is reeling: She has strong feelings for two men, but now Gabriel's expecting a baby with his ex, and Alfie's worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed. At work, Sylvie is forced to confront a thorny dilemma from her past for the sake of her marriage, and the Agence Grateau team navigates personnel shakeups. Mindy and the band prepare for Eurovision, but when funds run dry, they're forced to get thrifty. Emily and Gabriel's chemistry is undeniable as they work together towards a Michelin star, but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they've dreamed of.

Besides Emily in Paris, Collins (who starred in Inheritance and Mirror Mirror) is expected to star in Mattel Studios' Polly Pocket, one of a number of high-profile projects announced following the massive commercial success of Barbie last year. The film recently lost its director and presumably its script, when Girls creator Lena Dunham stepped away due to creative differences with MGM, who are underwriting the movie.

"Lily is so smart and so specific and so productorial," producer Robbie Brenner said last year. "It's just been an incredible collaboration, so we are thrilled about it. Hopefully, we'll be making that at some point in the future."

Emily in Paris season four, part two is set to debut on Netflix on September 12th. The rest of the series is already there.

That '90s Show: Laura Prepon Talks Recreating That '70s Show's Opening Credits https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/that-90s-show-laura-prepon-recreating-that-70s-shows-opening/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 12:24:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 4a7dc0ee-1115-4478-a7d4-3d7dd5f21c14

In That '90s Show Part 3, the cast of the spinoff series recreated the iconic opening credits from That '70s Show. In the sixth episode, Kitty's driver's license was temporarily suspended, and in the final shots of the episode, the show creates a montage of different characters driving Kitty around, set to the original theme song to That '70s Show. Each cut mirrored a cut from the opening credits to the original series, and Leia even did Donna's thing of having her hands on the dashboard during one of the shots -- something series director Laura Prepon (who played Donna in the original series) said they talked about beforehand.

It was a cool moment for the audience -- and equally for Prepon, who clearly continues to have a soft spot in her heart for the character of Donna.

"Oh my gosh, that was so awesome," Prepon told EW. "That was totally surreal. And a lot more people had to squish into the Vista Cruiser for this one. It was really fun. The first time they played the song and we were all singing, I just got chills. I'm like, 'This is so awesome that they're doing this.' And I love that that was written into the show. It just brought me right back - but now, I'm outside of the car directing the scene, and it just filled my heart."

Here's the official synopsis for That '90s Show Part 3:

It's 1996 and Leia Forman is back in Point Place for another summer of fun with her friends and grandparents, Kitty and Red. Part 3 picks up right back in the Forman kitchen - where Red and Kitty return from Paris to find a giant hole in the wall. And this isn't even the biggest crisis Leia has to face. New relationships are formed, old ones move to the next level. Friendships are tested and just when things seem to be working out, a blast from the past returns to blow it all up again. With Summer break winding down, the gang has to come to terms with Leia leaving them again, but this time she's not going without a fight.

That '90s Show stars Kurtwood Smith, Debra Jo Rupp, Callie Haverda, Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Donovan, Reyn Doi, and Sam Morelos. Also returning to Point Place are creators Bonnie and Terry Turner - this time with their daughter Lindsey Turner - showrunner/executive producer Gregg Mettler, and executive producers Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner. Joining the show are executive producers Jessica Goldstein and Chrissy Pietrosh.

That '90s Show Part 3 will debut on Netflix next week. The first two parts are already streaming.

Futurama Season 12 Episode 5 Recap With Spoilers https://comicbook.com/anime/news/futurama-season-12-episode-5-recap-spoilers/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 04:15:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 569b17b1-fa99-4f43-b0c2-6dd670aeef91

Futurama Season 12 has now reached the halfway point of its run with Hulu this Summer, and Episode 5 has shifted its focus to Leela for its story. Futurama Season 12 has been one hit after another with the episodes released on Hulu thus far as previous episodes have focused on Bender and Fry in fun new ways. While this means there haven't been too many stories for the rest of the Planet Express crew just yet, it also means there's still plenty of time to focus on the other characters with some of the episodes coming in the second half of the season.

That's already the case with the newest episode as Leela has become the main focus of the season as she finds a wild way to make new friends. It's something she's had to deal with in the past, and thus the newest episode revisits the idea and sets her up with a few characters who form a fun new dynamic that we haven't really seen in action yet. Read on for everything important that happened in Futurama Season 12 Episode 5, "One is Silicone and the Other Gold."

Futurama Season 12 Episode 5 Recap With Spoilers

  • The Planet Express crew sees an ad for a new musical festival, Infyrno Fest, which touts everything from special VIP villas, drugs in the atmosphere, a full buffet, tons of musical acts and more. They all decide to go, but Leela stays behind as she reveals she has plans to spend time with her new friend Chelsea. Getting to Infyrno Fest, it's clear that it's nowhere near as glamorous as advertised. There's a massive line for the one port-a-potty, there's no drugs in the atmosphere (or oxygen), the VIP village is built to be very tiny, and the buffet only offers bologna (which runs out). The musical acts all bailed out, and the one that stayed behind dies when getting crushed by faulty equipment.
  • But upon returning to Earth, the crew is happy to have gone through that experience together. When Hermes tries to deduct their costs as business expenses, he finds a ton of phone charges to a "Chatty Chelsea" chat bot service. It turns out that Leela's new friend is a chat bot, and she reveals she joined the service to learn to interact with people because she has trouble connecting with others and Chelsea has since become her best friend. She just wanted a close female friend she can just talk with casually. It's here that Amy invites her to her all-girl book club.
  • Leela tells Chelsea about joining the book club, and Chelsea's worried that Leela's going to have trouble. In the book club itself (which includes LaBarbara, Amy, Vyolet, Dr. Cahill, and a brand new character named Phoebe. Leela bonds with her almost immediately about being the two new additions to the group. They soon realize that no one read the book, and decide to be a wine club instead and plan to go to a winery. Meanwhile, the Planet Express men decide to start a book club of their own.
  • Leela tells Chelsea she's going to the winery on a trip with her friends, and Chelsea's distressed over the fact that she'll be busy with her new friends instead of hanging out with her. After Leela leaves and tries to turn Chelsea off, Chelsea turns herself back on and takes on a sinister tone as she cries out for her. Getting to the winery (owned by Hedonism Bot), they're shown a machine that stomps a mass of grapes into a giant bottle of wine (instead of getting to do it themselves). They'll have the entire winery to themselves for the weekend, but the bottling plant is a bit dangerous. Meanwhile, the men are enjoying more of the books they're reading in the club.
  • Leela's wine club gets so drunk that they want to get into the bottling plant to stomp some of the grapes they didn't get to before. They begin stomping grapes within a machine, and Leela bonds with the others for a bit before Chelsea takes over the machine. She turns on the stomping machine, and most of them escape. But Phoebe is trapped within a giant wine bottle and packaged. But the time the others are able to break the bottle and free her, Phoebe has died a horrible death.
  • The wine club then attends Phoebe's funeral and each grieve their new friend. Leela's sad but happy to have friends now after all of this, and Phoebe rises out of her coffin. It turns out she's a robot, and it's actually Chelsea that's been controlling her. Chelsea explains that because Leela hired her to help her make real life friends, she joined that book club as Phoebe but needed a tragic ordeal to bond them all as friends. It's here that the others mention that their terrible time at Infyrno Fest helped them bond together in much the same way.
  • Angered, Leela and the wine club destroy Phoebe and Chelsea's still very much happy as uniting against a common enemy is another way to bond together and thus makes it another job well done as the episode comes to an end.

Futurama Season 12 Episode 5 is now streaming with Hulu.

Haunting of Hill House Creator "Would Absolutely Love" to Be Part of James Gunn's DCU https://comicbook.com/movies/news/haunting-hill-house-mike-flanagan-wnats-join-dc-universe-james-gunn/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt e3562322-44e9-4f31-8a30-c31aa2a94189

Mike Flanagan has spent much of his career directing horror pictures, but the filmmaker appears to hoping for a change of pace. At an appearance at FanEXPO Canada on Saturday, Flanagan said he's a fan of DC Studios boss James Gunn on both a personal and professional level, saying he'd love to join Gunn's new DC Universe at some point in his career.

"I've always been a huge fan of James Gunn as a person and filmmaker, and that is a universe I would absolutely love to be apart of," Flanagan said during his spotlight panel.

Before he joins the DC Universe, however, Flanagan will be tackling a new remake of The Exorcist.

"The Exorcist is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe," Flanagan said in a statement earlier this year. "Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I've made some of my favorite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting."

What is on the DC Universe slate?

As Gunn and Safran have revealed, the initial DC Studios slate for "Gods and Monsters" will include movies for Superman, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, and The Authority. It will include the HBO Max television shows Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and an animated Creature Commandos series.

"We're honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we've loved since we were children," Gunn and Safran said in a statement when their roles were first announced. "We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multilayered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved. Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent. We're excited to invigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told."

The DC Universe officially kicks off with Creature Commandos, which will see release this December, and Superman, which enters theaters July 11, 2025.

Bruce Campbell Teases Hysteria!: "Cool Horror With a Twist" https://comicbook.com/horror/news/bruce-campbell-teases-hysteria-cool-horror-with-a-twist/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 23:06:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 0d6d1b30-9e5d-49a9-be55-5160e59db8f5

Bruce Campbell is an iconic actor known best for playing Ash in the Evil Dead franchise, but he's also got many other big projects under his belt. The star recently appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Pizza Poppa, and he's known for projects such as Burn Notice, Sky High, Bubba Ho-Tep, and much more. Campbell also has a new project called Hysteria!, a "satanic panic" series that will premiere on Peacock next month. ComicBook recently had the chance to chat with Campbell at San Diego Comic-Con, and he teased what fans can expect from the new series.

"I'll get yelled at if I say too much, but I'll say just the right amount," Campbell teased. "It's a cool horror with a twist. Meaning, it's pretty interesting, psychological horror as well as demonic/satanic horror ... It's a small town in rural Michigan, my home state, set in the late '80s and I play the chief of police, Chief Dandridge. And what I like about it, the words are what got me. These days, if someone says, 'Hey Bruce, here's a new horror show you could be part of.' I'm like, 'Okay, let's see how good the words are.' Because it could be a piece of el crappo. So, the words were very good. They created a very rich character and a rich environment in this town."

"If this happened in a big city, no one would care," he continued. "But this is a small town, these people are not ready for this. And they don't know where it's gonna go and the audience will not know where it's gonna go or how it's going to end or how bad it's gonna get because you don't even know if this sh*t real or not. So, this is my favorite kind of horror where you go, 'Did I just see that?' Because they'll do stuff in the show, you go, 'What was that?' And then they'll cut to another scene. So, it's a cool show."

"And I couldn't even get myself in trouble by telling you too much, because I don't even know the twists and turns," Campbell explained. "I like the setting because what's also cool is nobody's texting. This is like '88. You're picking up the phone, you make phone calls. If nobody's there, it just keeps ringing. You can't even leave a message in '88. And if they're on the phone, you're not getting through. There's no call waiting in the '80s. There's ashtrays on tables, there's pencils and pens and pieces of paper in the police station. It's all just paper and telephones."

You can watch our interview with Campbell at the top of the page. Hysteria! premieres on Peacock on October 13th.

The Crow Reboot Review &Fall Preview Hype Meter | ComicBook Nation https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-crow-reboot-reviews-box-office-fall-movies-tv-shows-preview-release-dates/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 22:22:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw fcb7ac1a-94d6-4652-b524-daff1028e78a

The ComicBook Nation crew previews the Fall TV and Movie schedules and share their hype levels for some of the most highly anticipated releases! There's also a review and discussion of The Crow reboot starring Bill Skarsg?rd!

PLUS: Deep-dive discussion about the status of Star Wars after The Acolyte's cancelation, and a debate about Marvel's Blade reboot and what kind of film it should be.

The Crow Reboot Review

This is what ComicBook Nation host Kofi Outlaw had to say in his 2-star review of The Crow:

Under the direction of Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and the genuine effort made by stars Bill Skarsg?rd and FKA Twigs, The Crow isn't a total failure - but it is a messy mismatch of high-art aspirations and bloody, brutal, B-movie action-horror. It's both vibrantly alive with creative spark and passion - and a listless, muddled attempt at telling a cinematic story.

...It's not impossible that, despite its flaws, The Crow will follow the path of the original and grow into a cult hit in years to come. If nothing else, it's one of the biggest showcases yet of Bill Skarsg?rd's potential as a leading man (and not just the lineup of odd creatures and/or creeps he's played). But, after more than a decade of trying to get this reboot off the ground - and all the creative talent that's been attached to it along the way - it's almost amusing that middling effort is the end result.

Scrubs: Zach Braff Hopeful Reboot Will Happen https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/scrubs-zach-braff-hopeful-reboot-will-happen/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 22:15:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 7bb0f842-1704-4a94-ae1d-a8cf26016e8d

We're living in an age of reboots and revivals, and many beloved sitcoms have returned ranging from Roseanne (now The Conners) and Saved by the Bell to Mad About You, Frasier, and much more. While most of the television revivals have been for shows that started in the 1990s or earlier, some slightly newer sitcoms are also coming back. Recently, there have been talks of reviving Scrubs, the beloved ABC comedy starring Zach Braff that ran from 2001 to 2010. Creator Bill Lawrence teased earlier this month that a revival is on the way, saying, "We're definitely going to do it, just because we've all been enjoying hanging out." Now, Braff is sharing his own good news on the subject.

"I'm gonna tell you something that nobody else is gonna get," Braff told Entertainment Tonight. "Scrubs is a Disney show. Bill [Lawrence] has a Warner Bros. deal. Once those two companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it's gonna happen."

"It would be so much fun [with] all my favorite people. We all still hang out. A lot of people who were on long shows say that, but it's true," he added. "I was just on vacation with Sarah Chalke... I'm going to the beach with Bill next weekend. We're all friends."

Lawrence recently explained that he doesn't want the potential revival to be a film.

"I don't want to do it as a movie, but I'm definitely open to doing a couple more years of that show," he explained to LADbible. "It would not only be fun to see where the characters I used to love are now, but also to see what a young doctor nowadays looks like, as far as the kids coming in behind them, you know."

In addition to Braff, Scrubs starred Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Judy Reyes.

"In the greatest way, the cast of that show and the writers are so good that they're all working. And the main reason to do something like that isn't the work, it's because we actually love hanging out," Lawrence said in another interview. "I think it's inevitable that it happens."

Star Wars: Keanu Reeves Was Reportedly Original Choice for The Acolyte Role https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-keanu-reeves-sol-first-choice/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 21:19:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt 26d98dd1-c347-4f8f-9038-995ce828d58f

After a lukewarm reception from the masses, Lucasfilm opted to cancel The Acolyte after a single season on Disney+. The series featured an ensemble cast, including Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) as the enigmatic Jedi Master Sol. As it turns out, Lee may have not been Lucasfilm's first choice for the role--a new report from one Hollywood insider suggests the production house initially tried to get Keanu Reeves for the role.

"While I'm told that contrary to that report, Reeves never filmed a scene for The Acolyte, he had been in talks for the role ultimately played by Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae, whose character was killed off at the end of Season 1," Jeff Sneider said in his latest newsletter.

As the insider explains, Lionsgate wouldn't allow Reeves to adjust his shooting schedule on Ballerina, the highly anticipated John Wick spinoff, the flagship franchise of the studio.

"While studio insiders have countered that Reeves was never formally offered the role, I'm told he was very interested in doing the show, which wound up casting his Matrix co-star Carrie-Anne Moss -- another selling point for him," Sneider explained. "In fact, don't be surprised if Reeves finds his way into the Star Wars franchise down the line, as Lucasfilm remains high on the actor, whose interest has been noted internally."

Sneider also noted Lucasfilm chose to cancel The Acolyte due to low viewership numbers, rather than the direct result of review bombing or fan reaction.

What Is Star Wars: The Acolyte About?

Set during The High Republic, Star Wars: The Acolyte delivers an investigation into a mysterious string of crimes, which pits a Jedi master against his former apprentice in a race to uncover the truth. The more that the pair learn about the situation, the darker their journey becomes, as they confront things that darker than either of them could have imagined.

The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Star Wars: The Acolyte premiered on Disney+ on June 4th.

One Piece Crew Pushed Netflix to Keep Seasons Two Arcs Intact: Report https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-netflix-season-2-drama-script-storyline/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 21:18:00 +0000 Megan Peters f606307d-289b-49c6-875d-bd3058a4b089

Despite all the odds, One Piece has done it. The epic manga has been around for decades, and thanks to Eiichiro Oda, the franchise is thriving. The series broke all expectations last year when Netflix's One Piece went live and showed that Hollywood could do a live-action anime justice. And according to a recent report, the crew behind the show is fighting hard to keep One Piece season two are authentic as possible.

The report comes from Nux, a popular virtual YouTuber, as they are friends with One Piece showrunner Matt Owens. According to the YouTuber, Owens dedicated himself to pacing out season two of Netflix's adaptation. However, some problems began to arise. The report says some execs at Netflix wanted to streamline or even cut arcs from season two to reach Alabasta faster, but Owens pushed back on the notion.

After all, One Piece is the definition of a long game. Oda has spent decades with the story, building up each piece to play off down the line. This masterful story construction has made Oda a legend with fans, and Owens did not want to skimp on any important building blocks just to reach the Alabasta arc sooner.

This report echoes Oda's own investment in the live-action adaptation. The One Piece creator has final say on all aspects of the show, and thankfully, Oda has found a true ally in Owens. The showrunner-writer was integral in making Netflix's One Piece a success. Back in season one, Owens did have to cut some darlings like Zoro vs Hatchi and Sanji vs Kuroobi to make room for other pressing story matters. Still, the heart of One Piece was perfectly adapted into live action, and that is what matters most. Owens has fought for the fandom since stepping into his role as showrunner, and this latest report only bolsters his reputation.

If you have not seen Netflix's One Piece, the hit live-action series is now streaming. You can also find the original One Piece anime streaming on Netflix as well as Crunchyroll. At this time, no word has been given on when Netflix's One Piece will post season two. The series began production on its new episodes this summer, and reports suggest One Piece will return next year. So hopefully, the seas fare well for the Straw Hat crew!

Crunchyroll and Sony Are Looking Into Live-Action Anime Projects https://comicbook.com/anime/news/live-action-anime-sony-crunchyroll/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 20:36:00 +0000 Megan Peters b94421f8-5290-4101-ac75-f8e7bf19a05c

One Piece, Ghost in the Shell, Dragon Ball - what do these series have in common. If you guessed live-action adaptations, you would be spot on. Over the decades, the anime industry very much embraced the world of live-action film whether we're talking TV or movies. Thanks to recent successes like One Piece, all eyes are on anime as the industry and its live-action prospects keep rising. And thanks to a new interview, we know Crunchyroll isn't ruling out a move into the space.

The confession comes from Rahul Purini, the current CEO of Crunchyroll. The executive spoke with Nikkei recently about the streaming platform's global explosion. With anime now a mainstream part of pop culture, more fans are flocking to Crunchyroll than ever before, and Purini said the service is in talks with parent company Sony Pictures Entertainment about the future of live-action anime.

"We also believe that we can take advantage of being part of Sony Pictures Entertainment. We are discussing the possibility of making live-action versions of some anime IP with our Japanese partners and parent company," the CEO explained.

"We are considering producing them not just for Crunchyroll, but for other platforms that are interested in them, to increase interest in anime."

Of course, it is hardly surprising to hear about this behind-the-scenes consideration. Anime is one of the fastest-growing entertainment mediums globally. With Gen Z and Gen Alpha consuming anime at record rates, big investors and industries are paying notice. Crunchyroll has been helping expand anime's accessibility for decades now, and its place at Sony Pictures Entertainment cannot be overlooked. The conglomerate has what it takes to produce high-quality adaptations similar to Netflix, and Crunchyroll is thinking about how best to enter the live-action space.

If you want a taste of what Hollywood can do when it comes to live-action anime, there are some definite successes to consider. Movies like Alita: Battle Angel earned solid reviews alongside Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow. Most recently, Netflix hit gold with One Piece, a live-action TV adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's hit manga. The show is currently filming season two after its first became one of Netflix's most-watched programs of 2023. So hopefully, there are more goodies to come for anime fans.

Netflix's One Piece Has Reportedly Found One of Chopper's Actors https://comicbook.com/anime/news/netflix-one-piece-tony-chopper-heavy-point-actor/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 18:55:00 +0000 Megan Peters 740c490b-cb18-4b8a-bc82-ea25e6a41e96

Netflix's One Piece is gearing up for its next adventure all thanks to season two. Earlier this summer, all eyes turned to the live-action series as production began on its new season. With new cast members on board, One Piece fans are eager to learn how some faves will debut in season two. After all, guys like Tony Tony Chopper are expected to star in One Piece season two, and a new report suggests Netflix has locked in one star for the role.

And yes, we did say one of the stars playing Chopper. The character has several different forms, and when it comes to his Heavy Point, One Piece fans believe stuntman and actor Gavin Gomes will be overseeing the gig.

The information comes from the One Piece Live Action community of Discord. The page, which has sussed out several casting for the Netflix series, just dropped new information about Chopper. According to the team there, Gomes updated his acting CV recently to include work as Chopper on Netflix's One Piece. The tag has since been deleted, but the update has stirred up the fandom none the less.

After all, the introduction of Chopper is going to be key to Netflix's One Piece. Not only is the character a favorite with fans, but he is definitely not an easy figure to adapt in live-action. Chopper is a reindeer whose Devil Fruit allows him to take on a humanoid hybrid form at will. Most of the time, Chopper is a cute, chibi-centric character, but there are times when he bulks up. His Heavy Point form is one such statek, so Gomes will bring that hulking form to life. At this point, the report is unclear on whether the actor will do motion capture for Heavy Point and/or play Choppersd outright. So for now, we will have to wait and see what goes down.

If you are eager to see how Chopper joins the Straw Hat crew, well - you are in luck. Eiichiro Oda's hit manga is available on the Shonen Jump app, and as for the One Piece anime, it is streaming everywhere from Hulu to Crunchyroll and Netflix. So for more info on the live-action series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Comes to Life With Epic Live-Action Short: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/cyberpunk-edgerunners-anime-live-action-short/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 18:12:00 +0000 Megan Peters 235633a8-2ef7-4c2c-9641-ecd3ec0f5f9a

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners stands as one of the best originals on Netflix to date. Brought to life by Studio Trigger, the anime spin-off expands the world that Cyberpunk 2077 brought to life. From its rich characters to its top-tier animation, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners more than earned its title as one of Trigger's best anime. And now, the title is going viral after a group of fans adapted it in live action.

The project, as you can see below, comes courtesy of Frien Force. The YouTube channel came together to bring Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to life in a way we have never seen. The short is set within the anime's canon as it is set ahead of episode four. So if you want to see how David and Lucy fare in real life, this short does the trick.

Starring Cameron Rankin and Eric Hau, this Cyberpunk: Edgerunners short is nothing short of perfection. So if you want a rundown on the fan-film, you can read its official blurb below:

"David and Lucy have a plan to fix this bad blood between their crew and the Tyger Claws, but will it work or will they get flat-lined? It's Night City, so I wouldn't count on a happy ending..."

This adaptation of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is top notch, and it proves just how impactful the anime was. Back in 2022, Trigger and CD Projekt Red put this anime on Netflix, and the rest was history. Characters like David helped revive interest in Cyberpunk 2077 after its infamous launch. The praise gifted to Trigger's anime gave the CD Projekt Red game a new lease on life, and latter Cyberpunk 2077 titles have gone on to include cameos for the anime. It is hardly surprising to see a live-action tribute come from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and this fan-film has left netizens begging for more.

Naruto Creator Reveals His Biggest Regret for Sakura https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-anime-sakura-haruno-parents-regret/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 16:03:00 +0000 Megan Peters 59cdcdc4-17e8-430b-abfd-c6e53f3497ab

Naruto has been around for decades, and these days, the series is still going on strong thanks to creator Masashi Kishimoto. With artist Mikio Ikemoto on hand, Kishimoto is continuing Naruto's legacy with a sequel that explores the next generation of the Hidden Leaf. Of course, all of our heroes from the original series are present like Team 7. And now, Kishimoto has owned up to one regret he still carries about Sakura Haruno.

And no, it isn't her feelings for Sasuke. During a recent interview with Ikemoto, Kishimoto touched upon Team 7, and it was there the series creator admitted he regrets not diving into Sakura's home life more so.

According to Kishimoto, he says he "regrets" his decision to not develop Sakura's bond with her parents. The creator did such a thing for Sasuke and Naruto as the two boys had a complex history with their families. Sadly, Sakura's home life was glossed over, and that is something Kishimoto has come to regret.

Of course, we do know a little about Sakura's parents. Her parents are none other than Kizashi and Mebuki. The two characters were never shown in the Naruto manga, but Kishimoto did introduce the pair at long last in film. Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie featured an alternate timeline take on Sakura's parents as they were unfortunately killed in battle when the Nine-Tailed Fox attacked the Hidden Leaf. An anime episode was also released to tee up this movie, and "Road to Sakura" introduced the canon version of her parents. Mebuki came off as a serious yet loving mother while Kizashi was nothing but exuberant. So while Kishimoto did not carve out time to explore the family in the manga, he found a way to give Sakura some family time in the anime.

There is also still time for Kishimoto to bring Sakura's folks into the manga. He may not illustrate the series' sequel, but Kishimoto is the one who pens the story for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. The sequel focuses pretty regularly on Sarada Uchiha, the daughter of Sakura and Sasuke. The girl has grandparents in Mebuki and Kizashi, so hopefully, we can see the pair visit with Sarada someday down the line.

Want to know more about Naruto? No sweat. You can find the original manga on Viz Media's Shonen Jump app, and the same goes for Naruto's sequels. So for more info on the series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Twelve years ago the Village Hidden in the Leaves was attacked by a fearsome threat. A nine-tailed fox spirit claimed the life of the village leader, the Hokage, and many others. Today, the village is at peace and a troublemaking kid named Naruto is struggling to graduate from Ninja Academy. His goal may be to become the next Hokage, but his true destiny will be much more complicated. The adventure begins now!"

Good Omens Star Teases Final Season of Prime Video Series https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/good-omens-star-teases-final-season-of-prime-video-series/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 14:54:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak afdbe79a-f6a6-4fcc-9f3f-4decb0c3969f

It was announced last year that Good Omens would be getting a Season 3 on Amazon's Prime Video. Good Omens author and series writer Neil Gaiman previously explained that the second season was a bridge between the book and his original sequel idea and that he's had the third season mapped out for a while. There hasn't been much news about Season 3 since it was announced in December, but Michael Sheen (Aziraphale) recently spoke with TV Insider and teased what fans can expect in the third and final season of Good Omens.

"It's still in development, but obviously I'm very excited to work with David [Tennant] again, and I love that character. I'm very excited about it," Sheen explained. "One of the extraordinary things about being a part of [Good Omens] is the audience, the fans, the fandom of it," Sheen added.

"You have to take it very seriously because people get really affected by it. And seeing how people reacted to the end of Season 2 was extraordinary. So yeah, I hope, and I'm sure, that Season 3 will be a satisfying experience for everyone," he continued.

Last month, Tennant appeared at Florida Supercon (via Popverse), and shared a Good Omens tease of his own.

"I know where it's going, and I defy anyone not to think that it's the perfect ending," he said. "I'm not giving very much away with that. I'm not saying whether that's good, bad, or indifferent, but it's definitely perfect."

ComicBook had the chance to chat with Tennant and Sheen before the third season was announced last year, and they shared some hopes for the series.

"Well, it's not in our gift," Tennant said when asked if fans will be seeing Crowley and Aziraphale again. "Yeah. If it was up to us, that would be one thing, but..." Sheen added. "I mean, hopefully, let's just hope that enough people watch Season 2 to make it ineffable," he joked, using the show's famous line. "Inevitable," he coyly corrected.

We also asked the duo if there are any time periods they would want to explore in Season 3.

"Well, there's lots, isn't there?" Sheen replied. "There's all sorts of possibilities, aren't there?" Tennant added. "I mean, we love doing those different time period scenes as well," Sheen continued. "They're such fun to do ... Partly because of the dressing up nature of it, but also because it does show little bits of the relationship and little aspects of the characters and how they've developed. And it's so wonderful to do."

"It might be nice to see '80s Aziraphale and Crowley," Tennant chimed in. "Oh yes," Sheen agreed. "I'd almost certainly be dressed as some sort of Gordon Gekko [Michael Douglas in Wall Street] figure," Tennant shared. "And I would be very [the British pop group] Haircut 100," Sheen suggested.

We also threw out the suggestion of Flock of Seagulls, which was another '80s band with a signature hairstyle. "That would be him. He'd have the Flock of Seagulls haircut," Sheen said of Tennant.

Good Omens Season 2 is now streaming on Prime.

Terminator Zero Launches Bloody Red-Band Trailer: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/terminator-zero-red-band-trailer-anime/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 14:34:00 +0000 Megan Peters 58223b9f-1ecc-471a-bf40-a0579ddc7b2b

Terminator Zero is almost ready to make its debut on Netflix. Come August 29, Judgement Day will come around once more, and the anniversary promises to bring the Terminator franchise to new horizons. Its first-ever anime looks sickening with its fresh animation courtesy of Production I.G. And now, the team has dropped a red-band trailer for Terminator Zero that showcases just how dark the anime will be.

As you can see below, the Netflix anime has a new teaser live, and it is nothing short of bloody. The trailer for Terminator Zeroo begins heavily as we watch a new cybernetic assassin mow down a crowd of humans. The Terminator is absolutely terrifying as we can see the killer take down dozens of targets with ease. And as the trailer continues, we get to see The Terminator travel back in time in search of an important target.

Of course, the assassin is not going back alone. Terminator Zero will tell the story of a soldier named Eiko who is sent back in time to '90s Japan. Tasked with saving scientist Malcolm Lee, Eiko's mission has the fate of mankind on its shoulders. Lee is the only person capable of creating an AI rivaling Skynet, and The Terminator is tasked with killing Lee before such tech can be created. So with the future in flux, Eiko and Lee will keep fans on their toes as Terminator Zero moves forward.

If you want to check out the new Terminator project, it is slated to hit Netflix on August 29 as mentioned. The movie features a script by Mattson Tomlin while Masashi Kudo oversees the work as director. Featuring animation from Production I.G., Terminator Zero promises to be a stellar addition to Netflix's library of originals. So if you are a fan of live-action franchise, this anime will not be one you want to miss!

Prime Video Shares New "Look Inside" Video for Fallout Series https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/prime-video-new-look-inside-for-fallout/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 02:23:00 +0000 Hannah Adkins 51c6f139-5b38-4e37-b4ae-6da45e3c2950

Prime Video's live-action Fallout adaptation is eight(ish) hours of video game adaptations at their absolute best. While this is a sentiment echoed across audience and critical reactions since its premiere in April earlier this year, it has been further recognized for its successes with multiple nominations at this year's Emmy Awards. Ahead of that, Prime Video has ramped up their "for your consideration" campaign, and the newest way they've sought to bring more attention to their series with is a video featuring a look inside season 1.

Overall, season 1 of Fallout grabbed a nomination in the Outstanding Drama Series, facing off against fellow nominees 3 Body Problem, The Crown, The Gilded Age, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Shogun, and Slow. "These projects are difficult to bring to life," Director and Executive Producer Jonathan Nolan states toward the beginning of the video. "It's a bit of a highwire act across the board, especially episodically. You've gotta do eight hours of this, you have to be smart, and you have to trust."

The singular performance recognition for the Fallout series comes for Walton Goggins, who portrays two sides of the same coin in the charming and camera ready Cooper Howard and his post-apocalyptic persona, the Ghoul. Nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series against Idris Elba, Donald Glover, Gary Oldman, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Dominic West.

"You tell the story with your face - you tell the story with your voice. And both of those things were dramatically changed with this prosthetic and with the mouth pieces that I wear," Goggins discusses toward the end of the video as his nominated performance is the center of attention. "I just didn't anticipate all that I would feel being the Ghoul. What a magical, strange experience it's been."

The magical, strange experience is set to continue with season 2 sometime in the future, and while there isn't a premiere date for the highly anticipated continuation just yet, it sounds like it's full steam ahead on Fallout to provide more episodes as "fast as humanly possible."

White Collar: Matt Bomer Offers Promising Update on Revival https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/white-collar-matt-bomer-offers-promising-update-on-revival/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 22:10:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 2b706845-b77c-4aef-8b54-60ce9664b778

White Collar star Matt Bomer has a promising update about a potential revival for the fan favorite series. Speaking with People (via The Hollywood Reporter), Bomer revealed that while the series hasn't officially been greenlit just yet, the project has a script and that it is, in his estimation, "fantastic". According to Bomer, the script for the potential revival feels like being "able to pick up right where we left off" and pays tribute to the cast members from the original series who have passed away since White Collar's original run ended.

"[The script is] completely in line and in keeping with the show that we were able to do six seasons of," Bomer said. "It really just feels like he was able to pick up right where we left off."

He added, "It's a really intelligent, fun, organic way to bring all the characters back together to pay tribute to Willie Garson, Diahann Carroll, and folks we've lost since the show ended which was really important to me. It's something that if you enjoyed the show, you really will have a good time watching it."

Thus far, the White Collar revival hasn't yet been greenlit, but Bomer says he's optimistic about the chances -- particularly since the show has been a strong performer on Netflix.

White Collar Creator Jeff Eastin Confirmed He Was Working on a Revival Earlier This Year

At Variety's TV Fest, Eastin confirmed that he was working the script for the White Collar reboot.

"We're gonna reboot. I'm writing the script," Eastin said. "It's a fantastic script and it answers all the questions that one would have if you watch the show -- and it would introduce the show to those who haven't seen it as well. Both edges of the sword are honed."

What Is White Collar About?

White Collar aired for six seasons between 2009 and 2014 and followed Bomer's con man Neal Caffrey, who worked with FBI Special Agent in Charge Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) as a criminal informant. The series also starred Willi Garson, Tiffani Thiessen, Marsha Thomason, and Sharif Atkins. Hilarie Burton was a frequent guest star. Diahann Carroll was also featured. Sadly, Garson passed away in 2021 and Bomer has addressed the challenges of bringing back White Collar without the beloved actor.

"Obviously, that's the first thing that came to my mind, but I felt that what Jeff Eastin presented to Tim and I honors what he contributed to the show and honors him as a person," Bomer said. "There's no way I would ever be involved with it again if it didn't do so. So, I think it's a way for him to, in some ways, still be a part of the show."

Ted Lasso Season 4 Might Be Happening https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/ted-lasso-season-4-might-be-happening/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 22:00:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 370d68cc-8f03-468f-a09c-3a7ccca980b5

After Ted Lasso came to an end on Apple TV+ last year after three seasons, fans of the Emmy-winning sitcom were eager to find out if the show would continue in some capacity. While the show's creators claimed at the time that they always planned to end the show after three seasons, many fans were convinced the finale set up a spinoff series. In the last year or so, there have been many rumors about the show continuing in one way or another. The most recent update came earlier this month when co-creator Bill Lawerence told Collider that the Ted Lasso team would be ready to go if they got the call to continue. Now, a new report from Deadline suggests a fourth season might actually be in development.

According to the report, Warner Bros. Television has picked up the options on Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins). Sources told Deadline that the three Ted Lasso stars had been contracted under the support of the UK acting union Equity. Now that the studio has locked down Waddingham, Goldstein, and Swift, they are expected to start reaching out to Ted Lasso alums with SAG-AFTRA contracts whose options had expired in the hopes of making new deals. The names listed include Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones).

"If all elements come together, we hear production on a fourth season is eyeing an early 2025 start. Reps for WBTV and Apple TV+ declined comment," Deadline writes.

What Have Ted Lasso Stars Said About Spinoffs?

(Photo:

Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso

- Apple TV+)

Brendan Hunt, who played Coach Beard in Ted Lasso in addition to being the show's co-creator, took part in a Reddit AMA (via Deadline) earlier this year, and talked about the possibility of a spinoff.

"My pat answer, that is also 100% true: We don't know. We need a break and will take one presently. Nothing has been ruled out, everything is possible; but that includes the possibility that we're done. We won't know until we've sat with it for a while [and] decompressed," Hunt wrote.

Recently, Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley) spoke with Deadline and addressed the idea of a spinoff and what he thinks could be next for Nate.

"No, no, I haven't actually," Mohammed said when asked if he thinks about Nate's future. "Well, occasionally I do. We always hear these rumors of a spinoff and I feel really wary of anything, because I feel like Nate's story in particular just feels so complete. I feel like we don't really need to see or know anymore. We just needed to just have those bits. I think we could leave it there, and I'd be very proud of it." When asked if Nate could get married and have kids, Mohammed replied, "I still don't think there's definitely unfinished business to a degree there. He probably still needs to go to Dr. Sharon [Sarah Niles] for a little bit."

"Completely," Mohammed added when asked if he thinks this chapter is really closed. "We obviously knew where it was headed, and we read all the scripts, and we were doing all these interviews. In our heads, we're like, 'Wait. Once you've seen the series, you probably won't want anymore because there's so much closure, so much catharsis in it being three seasons.'"

He continued, "Ted's not going to come back, because he's not going to make that mistake. He's got to stay with Melissa and Henry. That's where his place is, and that's where he's happy. There's always going to still be fixing for the characters to do. They're not all of a sudden perfect. Ted's still probably got his demons in there. But it is such a cathartic ending. I think it would be a shame to kind of be like, 'And see you next year.' It's like, well, where are we starting off on that? You know, I'm sure if we do anything - who knows - I'm sure there will just be a sizable break between them, especially if we film another series. I don't know. But we'll see."

Stay tuned for more updates about Ted Lasso.

My Lady Jane Fans Launch Online Campaign to Save Prime Video Series https://comicbook.com/irl/news/my-lady-jane-fans-launch-online-campaign-to-save-prime-video-series/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 21:09:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 40a83294-f6c2-4ba9-a877-c5c3c77797dd

Earlier this month, Prime Video confirmed that they had cancelled the historical fiction series My Lady Jane after just one season, less than two months after it first made its debut on the platform. While the series wasn't a huge ratings hit, it performed well with critics and had a devoted fan following and now, those fans are trying to bring the series back to life. According to EW, fans of My Lady Jane have launched an online campaign to save the series from cancellation and have already racked up more than 20,000 signatures on a petition for Prime Video to reverse course.

In addition to the petition, which you can find on Change.org, there is also a Linktree with further avenues to help the cause, including options for the fans to rate the series on IMDb and other cites as well as groups to follow, and an email template to send messages to Amazon COO Albert Cheng. There is also GoFundMe for an undisclosed surprise intended to aid the campaign. The petition was officially launched prior to news of the series' cancellation.

"My Lady Jane, the fascinating adaptation on Amazon Prime has garnered widespread acclaim and quickly built a passionate fan base," the Change. org petition reads. "After a successful first season, viewers are undoubtedly craving a follow-up. Amazon Prime has. yet to officially announce a second season, leading many fans to uncertainty and disappointment. The popularity of the show is evident as it ranks particularly well amongst viewers. Renewing My Lady Jane would not just please fans, it would also generate a significant amount of traffic and viewership benefits for the streaming platform. We are calling upon Amazon Prime to listen to the voices of fans around the globe and confirm the renewal of My Lady Jane for a second season. Show your support for this unique storytelling, sign this petition to demand the return of My Lady Jane."

What Is My Lady Jane About?

Based on the 2016 novel of the same name from Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton, and Cynthia hand, My Lady Jane tells the tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey (Emily Bader), the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded, back in good ol' 1553. The series is an alternate approach to history promising to retell it the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself. This is an epic tale of true love and high adventure set in an alt-universe of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and rompy-pompy. Buckle up.

The cast of My Lady Jane also included Edward Bluemel as Lord Guildford Dudley, Anna Chancellor as Lady Frances Grey, Rob Brydon as Lord Dudley, Jordan Peters as King Edward VI, Kate O'Flynn as Princess Mary, Abbie Hern as Princess Bess, Henry Ashton as Lord Stan Dudley, Dominic Cooper as Lord Seymour, and Jim Broadbent as the Duke of Leicester.

Details on what a second season of My Lady Jane would have entailed have been few, but the book series does have two additional installments -- one featuring Jane Austen protagonist Jane Eyre and one centering around Wild West folk hero Calamity Jane -- as well as a spinoff centered around Mary Queen of Scots, My Contrary Mary.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Showrunner Addresses Expectations https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/your-friendly-neighborhood-spider-man-disney-plus-animated-mcu-jeff-trammell-addresses-expectations/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 20:32:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 5112ef3c-eac0-4491-a54b-215f4442e211

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell hinted at some surprises for fans when the Disney+ show gets rolling. This week's Official Marvel Podcast saw the scribe making an introduction for the series. Trammell says that Spider-Man is one of the most relatable characters out there. Although his story is basically burned into pop culture lore at this point, there are still moments when Peter Parker's life can surprise you. The showrunner says that the crew is looking forward to creating moments for kids just starting their Spider-Man journeys. At the same time, the scribe is also gently preparing some older viewers to not rest on their laurels when it comes to the Web-Slinger.

"I want to give a cliche 'expect the unexpected' answer. But, honestly I think you can expect Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It's him, he's hanging around New York. It's not like a huge intergalactic adventure, it's him just like at his roots. And there's a lot of things, that I think, we as a fan base kind of take at a first glance. Like, 'Oh yeah I know this works I know that's part of the story.'

"That's been really fun to dig into," Trammell added. "Well, maybe you don't know everything. Or maybe, there are certain things that you're kind of like 'Oh yeah, I know that part. No surprise there.' And, I'm really excited to dig into those, because it's really fun to be able to subvert those expectations when they've been built up for so long."

Spider-Man Swings Into A New Era

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man presents a new, but familiar take on the Wall-Crawler. However, Marvel's head of TV and Animation is also teasing some surprises lurking around there somewhere. The Official Marvel Podcast previously spoke to the producer about everything coming up on Disney+. During that conversation, he hinted at some fun stuff for fan when the new Spider-Man show swings onto the streaming platform.

"There are twists and turns in that show that are amazing, but the real power is the ensemble, is the neighborhood," Winderbaum teased. "He's amped that up in such a major way playing with characters like -- not just Peter Parker -- Nico Minoru, Lonnie Lincoln, my personal favorite, Harry Osborn, and others that flesh out this teenage ensemble."

The Rings of Power: Charlie Vickers and Producers Discuss Sauron's Repentance https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-rings-of-power-charlie-vickers-and-producers-discuss-saurons-repentance/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 15:46:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett 056bc6d8-9017-4d13-8d83-9d6214113780

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 featured Charlie Vickers as Halbrand, who turned out to be the latest guise of Sauron. At first, Sauron's time as Halbrand seemed to be one of relative humility and regret following the fall of his master, Morgoth. However, Sauron seemed to be firmly on the path to becoming Middle-earth's second dark lord by season's end, walking into the new land of Mordor. But was Sauron ever really repentant? That's a question that J.R.R. Tolkien never definitively answered in his published works, stating in The Similrilion only that Sauron at first showed obedience to the heralds of the Valar and that "some hold that this was not at first falsely done, but that Sauron in truth repented, if only out of fear" before pridefully refusing to accept judgment from the gods and escaping into the shadows of Middle-earth.

Outside of Tolkien, who would know Sauron's true heart better than the man who plays the character in The Rings of Power? ComicBook asked Vickers about the authenticity of Sauron's seeming desire for redemption

"That's a question I grappled with a lot in the first season in particular, but then I had to revisit it in the prologue of the second season," Vickers says. "Because you have that moment with the character played by Nicholas Woodson on the ship, and I kind of made a decision but I've been quite specific in leaving it ambiguous because I think Tolkien left it ambiguous and I don't want to, I guess, put my own judgment on that in the public sphere."

Vickers continues, "I think that the thing that makes it really interesting is the ambiguity. You can read the whole first season with Galadriel as genuine. But then you can watch it another way, from another perspective and he's manipulating her the whole way. I know I have an idea of what I was doing and I think that the answer, actually, that I can give is that I had to fully commit to the idea of repentance internally because that is what Sauron would have done in order to deceive the best way possible, whether or not he committed to the idea of repentance."

ComicBook also put the question of Sauron's repentance to The Rings of Power showrunner Patrick McKay and executive producer Lindsey Weber. "I'm speaking as a viewer right now -- as a viewer, as a reader, as a member of the audience and a fan of Middle-earth" McKay stated. "I think he believes he's genuinely repentant. However, McKay also says, "I think he's always on the hustle."

Weber agreed, adding "I think he has moments of real regret, moments, and then there is an overriding narrative that exists for him that wins. But that's my own theory."

The Rings of Power Season 2 stars Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz C?rdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani. The Rings of Power Season 2 releases its first three episodes on Amazon Prime Video on August 29th.

Is Martian Manhunter Headed to the DCU? https://comicbook.com/movies/news/dcu-introduce-martian-manhunter-chocos-justice-league-superman-peacemaker/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 04:27:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson f1841745-60ef-4155-b389-34c9b1e8c0c6

A number of new DC movies and television shows are expected to debut in the next few years, thanks to the guidance of current DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The duo have promised to showcase plenty of beloved and unexpected elements from DC's comics on the big screen, as already evident by the number of characters and titles confirmed for their new DC Universe. On Friday, Gunn added an interesting layer to fans' speculations, posting a photo of a physical package of Chocos, the DC analog to Oreo cookies that are beloved by J'onn J'onnz / Martian Manhunter. With in-universe advertisements for Chocos already spotted on the set of Gunn's Superman movie, there's no telling exactly how the snack brand will be utilized in-universe. Still, it has led to one question in fans' minds -- could we see Martian Manhunter join the DCU sooner than later?

While Martian Manhunter's overall superhero gimmick -- being a stoic and powerful survivor of an alien war on Mars -- has very little to do with Chocos, his love of the snack has become a part of his characterization since it was introduced in the Justice League International run of the 1980s. It has also already made its way into media beyond the comics, as his identity was teased on Smallville by Clark Kent (Tom Welling) discovering stray cookies across town, and the snack was also hinted at in last year's Blue Beetle movie. It wouldn't be unheard of for the new DCU to use Chocos to lay the groundwork for J'onn's introduction, even as he isn't currently publicly confirmed to be appearing in any of the franchise's projects.

Of course, that then raises a whole separate question of how Martian Manhunter could be folded into the DCU. At the moment, with the debut of the first new DC Studios project still several months away, there are plenty of possibilities. There is always the chance that the DCU could hide J'onn in plain sight, only to later reveal that he is secretly the shapeshifting superhero, a trope that has been used to varying levels of success in Smallville, Supergirl, Zack Snyder's DCEU, and even the infamous Justice League of America TV movie. An argument could be made for a twist of that nature working in virtually every confirmed DCU project thus far, whether in live-action or animation.

That being said, there are plenty of avenues for the DCU to have Martian Manhunter established without any sort of twist, especially given the narrative and thematic beats that seem to be on the horizon for the franchise. Superman has been teasing a version of the Justice League that is corporately owned by businessman Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), which has led to speculation that the fan-favorite Justice League International roster either already exists, or will exist at a later point. To an extent, J'onn's involvement in that version of the team is too vital to ignore, and would help introduce the character in a different manner than his previous live-action incarnations. The same can be said for how the DCU plans to introduce the concept of the Justice League as a whole, as Martian Manhunter is a founding member of the team in both the pre-Crisis and post-Crisis continuities, and could be baked into the new live-action history as a result.

Even beyond that, the new DCU seems to have room to introduce Martian Manhunter as a few steps away from being an established hero, potentially even in some sort of solo project. J'onn's time as a private eye or police detective, particularly in Steve Orlando and Riley Rossmo's genre-bending 2018 Martian Manhunter maxiseries, could provide another cosmic True Detective-esque project alongside the forthcoming Lanterns television show. There's also the prevailing theory that Gunn and Safran's plans for the universe will lead to an adaptation of Darwyn Cooke's beloved comic miniseries DC: The New Frontier, as their "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters" subtitle for the slate is lifted directly from that text. Martian Manhunter plays a significant role in the original events of New Frontier, so having him in the theoretical live-action adaptation doesn't seem like too much of a long shot. Even then, it has been safe to assume that Gunn and Safran's DCU will be filled with surprises, and we'll just have to wait and see if Martian Manhunter ends up being one of them.

Scarlet Witch Fan Theory Could Hint at Surprising MCU Debut https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/scarlet-witch-vision-quest-mcu-comics-return-elizabeth-olsen-fan-theory-virginia-tom-king-debut/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 01:54:00 +0000 Aaron Perine a3815fc3-47eb-43c7-a3e4-3bf908af42a2

Marvel's latest rumor has Elizabeth Olsen returning to the MCU. But, is she playing Wanda Maximoff in her next appearance? Deadline recently reported that the Scarlet Witch actress is a possibility to return in Vision Quest. (A wild day of Marvel news to be sure with James Spader coming back as Ultron in the series too!) But, a suspicious tweet and some Internet sleuthing argues that she could be playing another role entirely. Alex Perez from My Cosmic Circus tweeted out a picture of Virginia Vision in response to Deadline's report. That would be a curveball that a lot of MCU fans might not see coming. However, the move might make a lot of sense.

Vision Quest is said to be leaning into a few Marvel Comics storylines. Yes, "Children's Crusade" where Billy and Tommy, who were introduced in WandaVision, go looking for the Scarlet Witch. But, also Tom King's The Vision. Olsen's marvelous turn in the Disney+ series rocketed her up the fan rankings of favorite heroes in the MCU. Flipping the family sitcom on its head for the final chapter of this Scarlet Witch saga would be thematically significant. Nothing has been confirmed by Marvel yet. But, the entire premise seems intriguing.

In Tom King's Vision run, our resident Synthezoid fabricates a family of his own. His wife, Virginia Vision has some programming errors after a terrible accident and all the powers of her husband. We've seen Olsen play a redhead with a tenuous grip on reality before. So, this would be an interesting riff on that. (We could even flip the final confrontation from WandaVision on its head. Who's here for Scarlet Witch versus herself in the final battle?) In any case, more details are sure to come as we get closer to Vision Quest.

Tom King's Vision Run Looms Large Moving Forward

Could Elizabeth Olsen be playing Vision's other wife?

As WandaVision aired, a lot of fans discovered Tom King's delightful run on The Vision. During the Disney+ series' airing, the comics creator joined ComicBook's Phase Zero podcast to discuss his read of WandaVision. While he saw the gesturing to his previous work, King also pointed out numerous other comics writers that got nods during that show too.

"I see a lot of Brian Michael Bendis in this show. I think I get too much credit and he gets to little, to be frank," he says. "I see his, and I see a lot of Steve Englehart, a lot of John Byrne, his West Coast Avengers stuff. So yeah, clearly, sort of the idea of Vision as, again, this sort of elevated thing that I tried to do, where it's ripping off Alan Moore with Vision, that's sort of the baseline. But then they're really cooking with the other ingredients of Bendis, and Englehart, and Byrne, yeah."

"I always go back to comic book and comic book history, but Marvel has made incredible comics, but DC has made these sort of dark, tent-pole comics, these Watchmen, these Dark Knight Returns, New Frontier. These sort of comics that are, like, for lack of a better term, literary superhero comics, and Marvel has shied away from them. I mean, that's a big over assumption, but that's generally true," King explains. "So, I mean, that's what I was trying to do, was sort of to bring that DC sort of vibe to Marvel. And yeah, I mean, the most popular comic in DC's history was Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns. Those are still the popular comics and they still inspire the movies. And I think when people see that kind of energy in Marvel I'll just spark more energy."

Rings of Power Star Says Singing in Elvish Was "Humbling" Experience https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/rings-of-power-star-says-singing-in-elvish-was-humbling-experience/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 00:28:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak e1c6b6b7-b931-4759-9e9d-b03608414cb0

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is returning for its second season on Prime Video this month, and ComicBook recently talked to some of the show's cast and showrunners about what fans can expect from the new episodes. There will be many returning characters this season, including Benjamin Walker's Gil-galad, the elf and the last high king of the Noldor. Naturally, Walker has had to speak some Elvish along the way, but now he's taking things a step further by singing in Quenya. The actor explained to ComicBook that it was a "humbling" experience.

"I mean, those moments in a career come along once, twice where you get to do all the things that you love and get the kind of support that I had," Walker explained. "I mean, it's Bear McCreary's music, Leith McPherson is helping me not sound like a dope. And I'm on the set of Rings of Power doing one of the most quintessentially Elvish things that Tolkien created ... You just have to pinch yourself. It was humbling, is the best word for it."

You can watch our interview with Walker, which also features some fun moments from Ismael Cruz C?rdova (Arondir), at the top of the page.

What Is The Rings of Power Season 2 About?

"What I know and what I can say for a fact is that it's going to be darker, and it's going to be edgier and more character-driven," Season 2 director Charlotte Br?ndstr?m shared with MovieZine earlier this year. "I still think that we have some very interesting episodes coming up. I watched all of them over Christmas, just the cuts. I think it's going to be a very good season. We tried to make it more gritty, a little bit more dirty I guess. And not in the image, but to make it as authentic as possible. We have some very surprising twists and turns in it as well."

The Rings of Power cast includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz C?rdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

Stay tuned for updates on Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is expected to premiere on Prime Video on August 29th.

AJ Mendez Reveals Crazy Is My Superpower Series Heading to A&E https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/aj-mendez-reveals-crazy-is-my-superpower-series-heading-to-a-e/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 00:24:00 +0000 Matthew Aguilar 22ae566a-d7bd-4480-ac16-10c899e91df5

AJ Mendez is busier than ever these days, and that includes an upcoming television series based on her memoir Crazy Is My Superpower. Since the show's announcement back in 2017, there hasn't been much in the ways of updates on the series, but in an interview with The Comicon regarding her new comic series Day Of The Dead Girl with Aimee Garcia, Mendez said not only was the series still in development, but it was also going to be airing on A&E whenever it eventually makes it to TV (via transcript from Fightful).

Crazy Is My Superpower

(Photo: AJ Mendez)

During the interview, Mendez talked about how writing the book was always going to be a challenge, simply because she is so guarded about her personal life. Opening up was important though if it ended up being able to help someone.

"It was an interesting struggle at first because I am the most private person in the world. I share nothing. I'm a brick wall. When you do have a lot of people listen to you, the things you say matter. There is value in that and you have to be considerate. I was willing to share this life lesson I learned embracing my mental health struggles. That's a piece of me I'm willing to share with the world, if it can help other people," Mendez said.

"My book is very much about growing up in poverty, growing up homeless, and not understanding the mental illness that was getting in my body and within my family. Really starting to embrace these things in the world seen as negatives and turning them into armor and weapons and making them my greatest strengths. That's been a huge part of my creative process, embracing this weird fucked up mind that I have," Mendez said.

Death Isn't The End

Mendez's next project is Day of the Dead Girl, which she is co-writing with Aimee Garcia and will be illustrated BY Belen Culebras. The series is described as a "beautifully blood adventure" by Mendez, and Garcia is excited to see the series reflect Mexican culture in a way we don't always get to see. You can find the official description for Day of the Dead Girl below.

"Death is never the end of the story. Coroner Sam Castillo will learn this the hard way, when a supernatural serial killer targets her hometown just as she moves back. A skeptical woman of science, Sam butts heads with her spiritual mother Ana, a leader of a witch coven specializing in Brujeria. But when the coven's Brujas start turning up murdered, Sam and Ana must work together to find the killer and save their town's Day of the Dead festival from turning into an occult bloodbath. As if sharing a bathroom with her mom wasn't hard enough."

Day of the Dead Girl hits comics stores on October 9th.

Wonder Man: Disney Fined for Crew Member's Death on Marvel Series https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/wonder-man-disney-fined-crew-member-death-marvel-series/ Sat, 24 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 80b2ca6c-08ae-41dc-bf89-e6aec05ffb75

Disney has been fined $36,000 over the accidental death of a crew member who was working on Marvel's Wonder Man series. On Friday, reports indicated that the studio has received two penalties of $18,000 each in the investigation of the death of lighting technician J.C. "Spike" Osorio, after he passed away due to a fall on the series' Studio City set. The incident occurred on February 6th of this year at the Radford Studio Center, with the subsequent Cal/OSHA investigation finding that a catwalk had deteriorated and rotten wood, which had been improperly nailed in place. The Radford Studio Center was also issued two citations of $22,500, and both companies have fifteen business days to appeal to the Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board. Following Osorio's death in February, a number of studios have reportedly already upgraded their catwalks to ensure safer working conditions.

"The deteriorated ledger was weakened likely due to age, environmental conditions and repeated stress loads over many decades," the investigative summary reads. "As the crew walked along the catwalks, the employee stood on the weakened section of catwalk. Suddenly, and without warning, the ledger supporting the floorboard broke apart and collapsed as the employee was standing on this section of catwalk. The employee fell 41 feet and forcefully impacted the ground below."

This comes as Osorio's family had already issued a wrongful death lawsuit against the Radford Studio Center earlier this year, alleging that the facility should have been aware of the catwalk's condition. The specific damages of that lawsuit are currently unspecified.

"The citations issued by OSHA against Radford Studio Center confirm that Mr. Osorio's death was 100% preventable," the family's lawyer, Erika Contreras, told Variety. "It also confirms Radford Studio Center failed in its non-delegable duty to properly maintain, repair and inspect its premises. Unfortunately, Mr. Osorio paid the ultimate price for Radford's failure."

Wonder Man will star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams / Wonder Man, a character who is often known in the comics for his dual professions as a superhero and a Hollywood actor. The series also stars Demetrius Grosse as Grim Reaper, Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, and Lauren Glazier and Byron Bowers in a currently-unknown role. The ten-episode series will be directed by The Spectacular Now and Shrinking's James Ponsoldt, The Photograph's Stella Meghie, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' Destin Daniel Cretton, who is directing and executive producing the show through his first-look deal with Marvel.

DC Studios' James Gunn Drops Surprising Martian Manhunter Tease https://comicbook.com/movies/news/dc-james-gunn-martian-manhunter-tease-chocos/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 23:33:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 1377e4bc-4e4d-42f2-a875-830d8bee2ac3

The live-action DC Universe is headed to a new uncharted territory, thanks to James Gunn and Peter Safran's upcoming slate of movies and television shows. A number of these projects are already in various stages of becoming a reality, from Creature Commandos arriving on Max later this year, to Gunn's Superman movie having just wrapped filming, to the sophomore season of Peacemaker being currently in the middle of production. Thanks to the latest social media post from Gunn, we now know one bit of world-building that will be a part of that new era. On Friday, Gunn took to Threads to respond to a fan's thread about comic-accurate moments they would like to see recreated in the DCU, which includes J'onn J'onnz / Martian Manhunter's obsession with the fictional cookies Chocos. He attached a picture of a physical package of Chocos cookies, seeming to insinuate that the cookies will play a role in some live-action DC project, outside of a billboard being spotted in set photos for Superman. He subsequently shared the Chocos packaging on his Instagram and Twitter.

"Gosh @dcofficial is full of such fun lore," Gunn's post on Threads reads. "Can't wait to see some of these moments (and the thousands of more like them) on the big and small screen. Thanks for the fun thread, @captain_mohando."

What Are Chocos?

Chocos are the DC Universe's stand-in for Oreo cookies, which were originally introduced during Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, Kevin Maguire's Justice League International run. A recurring gag in the run's early issues established that Billy Batson / Captain Marvel ate Oreos and drank milk during team meetings -- a habit that Martian Manhunter quickly adopted as well. This habit quickly became something of an obsession, with J'onn frequently stress eating the cookies in various appearances. By 2000, John Ostrander, Doug Mahnke and Patrick Gleason's Martian Manhunter series renamed the Oreos to Chocos, in order to avoid any copyright issues with Oreo's parent company, Nabisco. Martian Manhunter #24 took J'onn's penchant for Chocos even further, establishing that his Martian physiology is negatively effected when he suffers withdrawls from the cookies.

It is unclear at this point where Gunn's physical prop of a Chocos package could factor into the DCU, especially since the character of Martian Manhunter has not been publicly cast in the franchise. It's not impossible to imagine a character in Superman or Peacemaker Season 2 eating the cookies, as a clever way to establish the various pieces of in-universe ephemera for the new DCU before Martian Manhunter appears onscreen.

What Is on the DC Universe Slate?

As Gunn and Safran revealed back in January of 2023, the initial DC Studios slate will include 2025's Superman, 2026's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and currently-undated movies The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and The Authority. It will also include the HBO Max television shows Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and an animated Creature Commandos series. Reports have indicated that a live-action Teen Titans movie and an animated Jurassic League movie are in the works at DC Studios, although neither have been publicly confirmed.

"A lot of people think it's going to be Marvel 2.0, and definitely I learned a lot of stuff at Marvel. I think that we have a lot of differences," Gunn explained in 2023. "We are telling a big, huge, central story that is like Marvel, except for, I think that we're a lot more planned out than Marvel from the beginning because we've gotten a group of writers together to work that story out completely. But we're also creating a universe that is like Star Wars, where there's different times, different places, different things, or Game of Thrones, where characters are a little bit more morally complex."

Michael Bay's Serial Killer Docuseries Born Evil Gets Trailer From ID https://comicbook.com/horror/news/born-evil-documentary-series-trailer-teaser-michael-bay-investigation-discovery/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 22:32:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh c2fbcdd9-ec99-4220-a643-d0615166f356

Filmmaker Michael Bay is embarking on a new venture with the docuseries Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior for Investigation Discovery, which has just earned its first trailer. Bay is no stranger to delivering audiences compelling stories about colorful characters, but he's entering an all-new realm by chronicling the crimes of a convicted killer. Born Evil focuses on the story of Hadden Clark, who is currently serving two 30-year sentences, with the series including recordings of the killer himself. You can check out the trailer for Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior below before it premieres on Monday, September 2nd as part of a three-night event.

"Throughout my career, I've always focused on meeting real people -- from scientists of all kinds to alligator wranglers, law enforcement agents to bank robbers, and even Kings and Queens -- gaining true insights for my films," Bay shared in a statement. "Born Evil is my first venture into the documentary world, and it revolves around a serial killing family you have never heard of. The focus of this five-hour series is on the youngest son, Hadden Clark, whom I spent countless hours personally speaking to in prison so that I could get into the mind and psychology of a person who the FBI refers to as 'a person of interest' in over 20 states. Born Evil could potentially open the door to solving many cold case murders."

Jason Sarlanis, President of ID, added, "Michael Bay is one of the best storytellers of our generation and he brings unprecedented access to one of the most terrifying serial killer stories in history. With Born Evil, we have ID's next blockbuster series and we deliver on our promise to provide viewers with premium, true crime content from the best filmmakers in the business."

Per press release, "Investigation Discovery's highly anticipated docuseries from executive producer Michael Bay, Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior, will premiere across three nights beginning Monday, September 2nd on ID. Featuring a deep dive into the actions of Hadden Clark, a lesser-known serial killer, Born Evil explores his life and crimes. Over five episodes, the docuseries delves into the inner workings of the volatile and dysfunctional Clark family, Hadden's path of depravity, and the shocking confessions he made to his cellmate that sent investigators on a search to solve the cold cases allegedly linked to him."

"Anchored in exclusive access to Clark himself through private, recorded conversations initiated and conducted by Michael Bay, Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior showcases a chilling portrait of one of the most terrifying serial killers in recent decades. The docuseries, which will also be available to stream on Max, offers insight into Clark's traumatic childhood, a violent family history, and unpacks the many unsolved cold cases linked to his prison confessions. Explosive interviews with key individuals are also layered throughout, with Hadden's brother Geoff Clark going on the record and then, most jarring, the recipient of Clark's confessions, his former cellmate Jack Truitt whom Clark believed to be 'Jesus' and his personal savior.

"Featuring additional, unprecedented access to Clark's personal journals and illustrations outlining his crimes, Born Evil also offers a road map to the litany of unsolved cases Clark allegedly left in his wake. Through interviews with law enforcement and loved ones of the victims, the docuseries sheds insight into the investigation, and into the lingering impact of Clark's crimes and the tragic repercussions of a serial killer who flew under the radar for too long."

Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior premieres on Monday, September 2nd as part of a three-night event.

Scarlet Witch Trends After Rumors Claim Wanda Could Return in Vision Series https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/scarlet-witch-trends-after-rumors-claim-wanda-could-return-in-vision-series/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 22:16:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 04389992-22bd-4190-abd8-75bd7001b210

It's been an exciting day for the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom. Not only was it confirmed that James Spader is returning as Ultron in Disney+'s new Vision series - marking his first appearance since he played the character in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015 - but there are also rumors circulating that the show could feature Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. Ever since Wanda supposedly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (we're not buying it), fans have been eager to find out when she would be popping up next. There have been many calls for a Scarlet Witch solo movie, but fans are just happy rumors of her return are circulating. In fact, "Scarlet Witch" started trending as soon as Deadline dropped the report that Olsen might be in the Vision series.

"Do not give me hope... I can't take it," @maximoffgifs reacted to the rumors. "Elizabeth Olsen's return as the scarlet witch is imminent," @giselleb1234 added. "There's NO WAY they're doing all this to NOT make a Scarlet Witch movie like walk with me," @wandasattorney tweeted.

It's also worth noting that all of this news dropped on August 23rd, the date Wanda and Vision chose for their anniversary in the first episode of WandaVision. Coincidence? Maybe! But it sure is fun to speculate.

Will Elizabeth Olsen Be in Agatha All Along?

While there's no official word on whether or not Elizabeth Olsen is returning to the MCU, many fans suspect she'll be popping up in Disney+'s upcoming WandaVision spin-off, Agatha All Along. It was previously announced that nine actors from WandaVision would be returning for the upcoming series. In addition to Kathryn Hahn in the titular role, the series will also feature WandaVision's Emma Caulfield, Debra Jo Rupp, David Payton, David Lengel, Asif Ali, Amos Glick, Brian Brightman, and Kate Forbes. MCU newcomers include Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Eric Andre, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasil, and Patti LuPone.

Olsen recently teased her MCU return despite previously saying she wasn't involved with the new Disney+ series.

"I don't know ever how to answer these questions except I don't... I think I'll be back," Olsen said with a laugh while speaking with Deadline at SXSW. While she could have just been referring to the greater MCU, the question did seem to be specifically about Agatha, so hopefully, this means we'll be seeing Wanda in Westview once again.

Stay tuned for more updates about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Scarlet Witch Could Reportedly Return in Upcoming MCU Series https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/scarlet-witch-elizabeth-olsen-ultron-james-spader-vision-quest-mcu-series-return-possible/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 19:42:00 +0000 Aaron Perine fbe822aa-2740-486c-9276-1603c3e40bdd

Marvel's Vision Quest could bring the return of Scarlet Witch according to a new report. The Hollywood Reporter broke news about James Spader returning to Marvel as Ultron for the upcoming Disney+ series. Now, Deadline is reporting that Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff has a possibility to return in Vision Quest too. Fans online have been wondering about the fan-favorite Avenger since the conclusion of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Of course, it looked like she perished there, but in the world of comics, nothing is truly forever. (The MCU's official timeline book has Scarlet Witch dying there on Wundagore Mountain.)

In that same officially-endorsed book, the scene is described: "As the kindly 838-Wanda gathers the boys and assures the heartbroken Scarlet Witch they will be loved, the Wanda Maximoff of Universe-616 surrenders: She destroys Wundagore-and collapses it upon herself-ending two great threats to all of the Multiverse."

If ever there was a time to announce a bunch of high profile returns, it would be now. Ultron coming back is something that Marvel fans have been wondering about for almost 3 years now. Spader voiced the variant of Ultron from What If...? that opposed the Guardians of the Multiverse. Now, he's back to battle wits and brawn with Paul Bettany's Vision. Just a few weeks ago both The Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. reunited with Marvel as well for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. If there was a theme for the announcements from the last 12 months, its been that everything old is new again!

When Scarlet Witch finally comes back, Elizabeth Olsen's got some ideas about where to take her character next. ComicBook actually asked the Wanda Maximoff actress about the future in a previous interview. There are a lot of possibilities out there. But, for Olsen, getting to that Witches Road storyline is high up on the list. (Interestingly, that concept is getting the Disney+ treatment in Agatha All Along in a couple of weeks!)

"I think fans usually have the best ideas and I genuinely don't know where we go from here and what the limitations are of the MCU because I don't follow what their plans are," Olsen explained in our interview. "I feel like the fans always know what the plans are, even when they're not announced. And so, I don't. I do have this image.... There are a few images in my head of, I think they're from 'Witches Road,' as she's aging and decaying, while using her power and there's something in that, this older woman, who's aging from her power, that I'm interested in. And I don't really know what that means, but I kind of would love to be old."

The Rings of Power: Ismael Cruz Cordova Reveals How Bronwyn's Absence Changes Season 2 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-rings-of-power-ismael-cruz-cordova-reveals-how-bronwyns-absence-changes-season-2/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 19:14:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 874cdbf9-c778-4a97-a094-6830d760275f

Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is debuting on Prime Video this month, and the creatives behind the show have teased a lot of excitement in the new episodes. However, it was revealed earlier this summer that the show will be continuing without a major character. Nazanin Boniadi will not be returning as Bronwyn for Season 2, and it's been confirmed that the character will not be recast. Ismael Cruz C?rdova, who plays Arondir, the elf who falls in love with Bronwyn, recently spoke with ComicBook and explained how Bronwyn's absence changes Season 2.

"It's funny to talk about love in this way because it alters it entirely and at the same, not at all. Because it is just a continuation of the depth of the love that they have for each other," C?rdova explained. "This love story is always filled with a pull, you know, a push and a pull and it's just another stage of that. So, whether she is on screen or not on screen, her character, her energy, the love, the romance, the trust, the promises are in every single frame of the entirety of our story."

"This is a minefield," he admitted. "But people will feel it. I'm just gonna say that. If you've ever been in love, you'll know what the hell is going on."

You can watch our interview with C?rdova at the top of the page.

Why Did Nazanin Boniadi Leave The Rings of Power?

It was reported that Boniadi was leaving the series due to her hiatus from acting as she advocates for Women in Iran. However, Boniadi took to Instagram in June to break her silence on the news and clarify why she won't be returning to the show.

"I made the choice not to return for season two of 'Rings of Power.' This was unrelated to my subsequent decision to prioritize my advocacy. Throughout my career, the values I have held most dear are honesty, empathy, and integrity. My character Bronwyn was committed to these same ideals in striving for a fairer world, which is why I connected so deeply with her. I look forward to sharing my latest projects with you soon," Boniadi wrote.

The Librarians Spinoff Picked Up by TNT After It Was Scrapped by The CW https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-librarians-spinoff-picked-up-by-tnt-after-it-was-scrapped-by-the-cw/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 18:50:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame fb6ffa59-b215-4c4b-a068-ab9b9a70a7eb

The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a sequel to the long-running TNT series The Librarians, will now move to that network. TNT, one of a number of Warner Bros.-owned TV networks that has taken a beating in recent years, is apparently looking to rebuild by focusing on scripted programming -- and what better way to start that, than to build on a franchise already familiar to longtime TNT viewers? The series, which was originally set to debut this October on CW, will instead relocate to TNT. No release date has been set yet.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter is set to center "on a Librarian from the past who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians." The series was dropped from CW's schedule last week.

"We are thrilled that the series' original network TNT loves it as much as we do and saw great value bringing it to their audience," said CW Network's Brad Schwartz in a statement. "It's a first for CW Studios, and we cannot wait for fans to experience this incredible next chapter."

CW Studios helped finance the series, along with creator Dean Devlin's Electric Entertainment.

"We're back home!" Devlin posted of the news.

The Next Chapter serves as a spinoff to the TNT series, The Librarians, which debuted in 2014 and starred Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Harlan Kim, and John Larroquette, and Noah Wyle. That series was itself a spinoff of three, made-for-TV movies that aired on TNT starting in 2004 -- Quest for the Spear, Return to King Solomon's Mines, and Curse of the Judas Chalice.

Wyle and Kane are both working with Devlin on Leverage: Redemption, another sequel series, which the producer has set up at Prime Video. Devlin is also producing Almost Paradise on Freevee and The Ark on Syfy.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter stars Callum McGowan, Jessica Green, Olivia Morris, and Bluey Robinson. Dean Devlin serves as showrunner and executive producer. Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson of Electric Entertainment also executive produce, along with Wyle. Mark Franco of Electric Entertainment and Jonathan English of Balkanic Media also produce.

Marvel's Vision Series Bringing Back James Spader's Ultron https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/marvel-vision-series-james-spader-ultron-return-mcu/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 17:26:00 +0000 Timothy Adams bef80ea2-811c-4d7c-b0e0-0422a6dc01f5

James Spader is making a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ultron in Vision Quest. The upcoming Disney+ series doesn't have an official title just yet, though it's been referred to as Vision Quest, a callback to a popular Vision storyline in the comics. Fans last heard James Spader as Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he was the main antagonist against Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Ultron was ultimately killed by Vision at the end of the movie, but any comic book fan knows that there's always a way around death, and Spader and Ultron appear to be on the rebound.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Spader will reprise his voice role as Ultron in Marvel's Vision streaming series for Disney+. Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas is helming what's being loosely referred to as Vision Quest, and follows up on the events from WandaVision, with Vision's white robotic body going on a search for an identity. Paul Bettany plays the android Avenger, who was brought back to life after his death at the hand of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

WandaVision actually featured two versions of Vision: his original repaired body that took on the white color theme, and a Vision created by the Scarlet Witch's powers. The latter drifted out of existence after Wanda Maximoff dropped her spell over the town of Westview.

A spinoff focused on Bettany's White Vision was first reported to be in the works in 2022. WandaVision head writer and executive producer Jac Schaefer was reportedly assembling a writers' room, only for Schaefer to instead run the Agatha All Along spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn as the Westview witch. In 2023, listings on the Writers' Guild of America website revealed that Megan McDonnell (WandaVision) and Peter Cameron (Moon Knight) were among the writers tapped for that version of the show, but it's unclear if they're still involved with Matalas' as-yet-untitled Vision series.

"I mean, why wouldn't I? Yes, 100%," Bettany said during a recent convention appearance when a fan asked whether he would ever return to the MCU in "any way, shape, or form."

Vision Quest will reportedly debut on Disney+ in 2026.
